Aiden could only internally applaud his mother's acting skills. If it weren't for the fact that he had witnessed her making out with Annalise's husband, he would've honestly been fooled by her act as well. To the outside world, Catherine Laine had acted as the perfect wife and best friend― knowing the truth just made Aiden shiver.
"That is still possible!" Annalise said, finally willing to meet Catherine in the eye. She gritted her teeth and huffed, casting a pointed look at Matteo and Amelia. "Your stepson is still a single man― he hasn't married Amelia Kentwood yet and can still marry my daughter."
Instantly, Amelia's eyelids twitched in irritation. However, there was no need to step in. Surprisingly, Catherine spoke up before either she or Matteo could.
"That's not going to work," Catherine said with a wince. "Unfortunately, Matteo gave up his claim to the Montgomery family fortune." She then cast Matteo a glance, smiling as fake as a doll. "Isn't that right, Matteo?"
