Anna checked him, her eyes filled with pain. "I'm outstanding, Nathan. Just worn out."
Nathan reached out, but Anna stepped back. "I know you're obsessed about Jacqueline being proper here, but it seems like you've forgotten about us, about me."
Nathan's face softened with focus. "I'm so sorry, Anna. I didn't want to make you feel that way. Jacqueline's been through a lot, and I actually liked to be there for her."
Anna nodded, struggling to hold back tears. "I know, but it's difficult. I feel like I'm losing you."
Nathan pulled her right into a hug. "You're now not losing me, Anna. I promise. We'll discover a way to make this work, together."
Anna clung to him, hoping his phrases were real. "I hope so, Nathan. I genuinely do."
