"Alright, now that the contract's signed, here are some movie scripts, drama scripts, and variety shows I picked out for you," Agent Li said. He grabbed a stack of script books and documents from the chair behind him and dropped them onto the table with a soft thud. "Don't even think about lead roles yet—these are all supporting roles the audience loves. You'll have to audition for them, though. These kinds of roles are really popular among newcomers and C-list actors."
"What do you think I should pick?" Muyao asked, casually flipping through the stack of script books with a hint of curiosity in her eyes
"I suggest you audition for Star My Destination," Agent Li said. "The drama's about a female police officer and a male soldier. They go through a lot of hardships together, eventually realizing they're meant for each other and slowly fall in love. But in the end, the female lead dies after taking her sister's place."
He flipped through the script and stopped at a section, pointing with his finger. "You'll be auditioning for the role of the female lead's sister. She's a brave narcotics officer who dies at the end of a big drug case. When the drug lord finds out about her true identity, she's just about to send out the final piece of evidence, but in the end, she's killed during the mission. This role will leave a strong impression on the audience—it's a good chance for you to start building your name."
Muyao flipped through the script Agent Li handed her. The pages were filled with highlighted lines and notes, showing this role wasn't going to be simple
'A narcotics officer… brave, loyal, and gone too soon… perfect. Short but memorable. Just my style,' she smirked quietly
"A narcotics officer… that's pretty intense," she said softly, half to herself
Agent Li leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. "Yeah. It's not one of those glamorous supporting roles where you just smile next to the leads. This character has real weight. If you do well, people will remember you."
Muyao lowered her eyes back to the script. The sister's story was short but powerful. The character's sacrifice left an impression she couldn't shake.
'Wow… die heroically, impress everyone, and still stay clever… easy for me,' she thought, her grin hidden.
"Do you really think I can pull this off?" she asked, her voice a little unsure.
Agent Li raised an eyebrow. "Why not? You've got the look, and if you prepare seriously, you can make this character shine. But I won't lie—the competition is tough. A lot of new faces and C-list actors are fighting for this role."
Muyao stayed quiet for a moment. She'd just signed the contract, and now she was stepping into something challenging. But a small part of her liked that. She didn't want an easy start.
She looked up, a small determined smile on her face. "Alright. I'll audition for it."
Agent Li's expression softened slightly. "Good. That's the spirit."
'Finally… my first step into the entertainment industry. And maybe, just maybe, some juicy gossip along the way,' Muyao thought, pretending to carefully study the script while flipping through the gossip book in her mind trying to look for new gossip
"I will suggest you start practicing the script starting today because the director who is filming Star My Destination is very strict and won't give anyone face, no matter who they are," Agent Li said
"Umm, just to let you know, Little Miss Muyao, Chairman Lin has arranged for a female soldier who was recently discharged due to injury to be your assistant. Her name is Fang Xiaocheng. She will arrive tomorrow and will be your assistant while you're in the entertainment industry. She will also act as your bodyguard," Assistant Chen said after receiving a message from Fang Xiaocheng
Muyao blinked at Assistant Chen.
'An assistant and a bodyguard all in one… huh. That's new,' she thought, tilting her head slightly.
She flipped through the script again, pretending to be focused, but her mind kept wandering.
'Tomorrow she'll be here… I wonder what kind of person she is. Strong, serious, or… easygoing?'
Agent Li cleared his throat. "Xiaocheng is a very serious person. You might not be used to having her around at first. She's just been discharged from the military, so she's not very familiar with normal life yet. Don't joke with her too much—she takes everything seriously," he said
'Wow, that sounds interesting, but why does it feel like she's here to monitor me and report everything I do to my dad?' Muyao questioned herself, frowning slightly.
Both Agent Li and Assistant Chen suddenly started coughing at the same time.
'Who said Little Miss Muyao isn't smart? She literally guessed the chairman's idea right away. Who would believe that Xiaocheng is really here to monitor her?' Assistant Chen thought, wanting to scream the truth out loud but forcing himself to stay quiet
'Welp, I'll be back tomorrow to meet my assistant. Byeeee, see you guys tomorrow,' Muyao said, grabbing her script and bag, waving at Agent Li and Assistant Chen as she left the meeting room.
