Chapter 797 - Chapter 797: The Finals Are Coming

The Nine-Tails' eyes, burning with ancient resentment and barely contained fury, bore down upon Naruto, who appeared as insignificant as an ant before the colossal beast's overwhelming presence.

Over the years, the Nine-Tails had occasionally managed to pull Naruto into this sealed space during moments when the boy's chakra control wavered or his physical exhaustion left him vulnerable during particularly intense training sessions. However, each attempt at meaningful contact had been immediately thwarted by the layered protections surrounding the seal.

Whether it was Minato's masterfully crafted sealing technique automatically responding to the beast's stirring, or Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan detecting the chakra fluctuations and intervening directly, the Nine-Tails found itself constantly restrained and monitored. Every move it made was anticipated and countered before it could gain any real foothold in its host's consciousness.

This marked the first time Naruto had actually heard the Nine-Tails speak directly to him, and despite his earlier bravado, a hint of instinctive fear flickered in his bright blue eyes. After all, he had only just learned that such a terrifying monster had been residing within his body since birth. The reality of the situation was finally beginning to sink in.

When the Nine-Tails noticed that Naruto remained silent and made no immediate response to its demanding question, its patience began to fray rapidly. Inside the massive cage, the beast ground its enormous fangs together in frustrated hatred, its claws scraping against the sealed floor. Apart from putting on an increasingly ferocious display of barely contained rage, there was precious little else it could actually do to the boy standing safely beyond the bars.

Gradually, as seconds ticked by without any catastrophic attack or immediate threat materializing, the fear in Naruto's eyes began to fade away, replaced by his characteristic curiosity and determination.

Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he slowly said, "So you're the Nine-Tails that everyone's been talking about?"

The great beast chose to ignore his question entirely, its burning gaze fixed on the boy with obvious disdain.

Undeterred by the cold reception, Naruto pressed on with characteristic enthusiasm. "Well, hello there! My name is Namikaze Naruto, I'm eleven years old, my absolute favorite food in the whole world is Ichiraku ramen - especially the miso variety - and my biggest dream is to become Hokage someday so I can surpass my dad..."

He continued his earnest self-introduction, his voice growing more animated as he spoke about his hopes and aspirations for the future.

"You insufferable little brat, you're so noisy!" the Nine-Tails roared in exasperation, its thunderous voice cutting through Naruto's cheerful monologue. The beast could no longer endure the boy's rambling chatter.

"Heh-heh," Naruto chuckled awkwardly, ducking his head in embarrassment as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry about that. I'm really not good at this whole conversation thing. Even though this isn't exactly my first time dealing with, uh, animals like you, I'm still not quite used to it."

The casual comment hit the Nine-Tails like a physical blow. "You actually just called me an animal?" Even the mighty tailed beast's eyelids twitched in disbelief at the sheer audacity of the statement.

"Yeah, that's right," Naruto nodded matter-of-factly, completely oblivious to the magnitude of the insult he had just delivered. "It's way too dark in here for me to see you properly. What kind of animal are you exactly? A raccoon? Maybe some kind of weasel? Or perhaps a fox? I really can't tell from this angle."

He squinted into the shadows beyond the cage, pinching his chin thoughtfully as he tried to make out more details. From his current position, he could only clearly see that the creature possessed some kind of facial hair or whiskers. Driven by curiosity, he began walking closer to the bars, continuing to mutter his observations aloud.

"How dare you mock me like this!" The Nine-Tails was completely enraged by Naruto's casual, almost dismissive attitude. Despite being sealed and contained, it remained one of the most powerful and feared tailed beasts in existence, a creature of immense chakra and devastating capability.

How many legendary shinobi throughout the ninja world had trembled before its might? How many villages had fallen to its rampage? The very mention of its name was enough to strike terror into the hearts of even experienced jonin-level warriors.

How could it possibly tolerate such blatant disrespect from a being that registered as little more than an ant in terms of power and significance?

Naruto was genuinely startled by the beast's explosive roar and instinctively took several hasty steps backward, his heart hammering in his chest. After a moment to collect himself, he offered an awkward smile and said, "Ah, sorry! I think I might have said something wrong there, heh-heh."

Small beads of nervous sweat had formed on his forehead as the reality of the situation hit him. It seemed that his first attempt at making a good impression on the Nine-Tails had been an absolute disaster.

"Don't you dare treat me like one of those bumbling toads from Mount Myōboku!" the Nine-Tails bellowed again, its voice filled with wounded pride and mounting fury.

This comment caught Naruto completely off guard. "Wait, so you actually know what's happening outside even though you're stuck in this seal?" he asked with genuine surprise and curiosity.

The reference made perfect sense once he thought about it. Jiraiya had indeed arranged for Naruto to sign a summoning contract with the toads of Mount Myōboku, though the boy had yet to make much progress with summoning techniques. Given his current level of chakra control and overall strength, even if he managed to successfully summon a powerful creature, he would have no realistic hope of actually controlling or directing it in battle.

The Nine-Tails had reached the absolute limit of its patience with the infuriating boy. "Fourth Hokage!" it roared toward the ceiling of the sealed space, knowing that Minato was observing the interaction. "I don't care what your ultimate purpose is in sending this brat to speak with me, but whatever scheme you're concocting is nothing but pure wishful thinking!"

The beast could clearly sense Minato's chakra signature penetrating the layers of the seal, allowing the Hokage to monitor every word of their conversation and every nuance of their interaction.

"I'm really, truly sorry about all this," Naruto said to the Nine-Tails with obvious embarrassment, sheepishly scratching at his whiskered cheek with one finger. His genuine contrition was evident in both his voice and body language.

As soon as the apology left his lips, that familiar wave of dizziness washed over his consciousness once again, pulling him back toward the waking world.

He squeezed his eyes shut against the disorienting sensation, and when he opened them again, he found himself looking up at the concerned faces of Minato, Kushina, and Chiharu.

"What happened in there?" both Kushina and Chiharu asked almost simultaneously, their worry clearly evident as they studied Naruto's expression for any signs of distress or trauma.

Naruto looked directly at his father and whispered with obvious regret, "Dad, I think I might have accidentally made the Nine-Tails really angry just now."

Minato's expression grew somewhat awkward as he slowly removed his hands from the sealing array on Naruto's abdomen. He had witnessed the entire exchange through his chakra connection to the seal, and honestly wasn't sure how to respond to what he had observed.

"What exactly happened in there?" Kushina pressed again, and when she heard Naruto's admission about angering the tailed beast, a sharp look of worry immediately appeared in her violet eyes.

"It's nothing too serious, just..." Minato shook his head reassuringly at his wife, then proceeded to recount the entire conversation between Naruto and the Nine-Tails in complete detail, including every awkward moment and unintentional slight.

"Ahahahaha!" After hearing the full story, Kushina couldn't help but burst into delighted laughter, her earlier worry completely forgotten. Chiharu, on the other hand, seemed to develop a small vein throbbing on her forehead as she processed her brother's spectacular social blunder.

"Mom, what are you laughing at?" Naruto looked at Kushina in complete confusion, genuinely baffled by her reaction. He still couldn't understand why the Nine-Tails had become so incredibly angry over what seemed like perfectly reasonable observations.

"I really didn't say anything that terrible, did I?" he wondered aloud.

"The Nine-Tails is an incredibly powerful and ancient tailed beast, Naruto," Kushina explained between giggles, trying to maintain some semblance of seriousness. "In its perspective, even the most skilled ninja are nothing more than ants that could be crushed underfoot without a second thought. Of course it's going to be furious when you casually refer to it as just another animal!"

Naruto pursed his lips and frowned in thought. "But it really does look like some kind of giant animal. I couldn't see it clearly enough to tell what kind, though."

"Well," Kushina nodded, taking a moment to consider her words before answering with complete seriousness, "the Nine-Tails' appearance should indeed be that of a fox - specifically, a massive fox with nine tails. Some people also refer to it as the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox."

"Kushina..." Minato looked at his wife with a mixture of helplessness and fond exasperation, though he couldn't entirely suppress a small smile at the situation.

Kushina grinned back at him before placing a gentle hand on Naruto's shoulder. "But you know, you're probably the only person in history who would speak so casually when meeting a tailed beast for the first time."

The observation was both amusing and profound. Perhaps it was because Naruto was still so young, combined with his naturally carefree and optimistic personality, but he seemed to have little real comprehension of exactly what kind of legendary monster was sealed within his body.

It was precisely because of this innocent ignorance that Naruto had been able to face the Nine-Tails with such relative calm and composure from the very beginning. There was no preconceived terror or overwhelming awe to cloud his judgment or paralyze him with fear.

At this moment, Kushina truly began to believe that the prophecy Minato had heard from the Great Toad Sage of Mount Myōboku might actually prove to be accurate. Perhaps her son really was destined for something extraordinary.

Minato shared his wife's thoughts completely. Although as Naruto grew older and gained more experience, he would inevitably come to fully understand the true nature and power of the Nine-Tails, and his attitudes might well change accordingly. But at least for now, unlike both himself and Kushina in their early days as jinchūriki, Naruto hadn't immediately regarded the tailed beast as some kind of alien invader or cursed burden to bear.

"Nine-Tails," Minato thought to himself, "I believe you must have noticed this difference as well, haven't you?"

The two weeks leading up to the third and final round of the Chunin Exams passed in a blur of intensive preparation, with all the qualified contestants pushing themselves to their absolute limits in training.

On the day before the finals were scheduled to begin, a significant gathering took place at Konoha's main entrance gate.

Minato stood in full ceremonial regalia, wearing the iconic white and red Hokage robes that marked his office, topped with the traditional Hokage hat that he rarely bothered to don for everyday duties. The formal attire emphasized both his authority and the importance of the occasion.

Flanked on his left and right were two of Konoha's most senior officials: the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi and Mitokado Homura, both lending their presence to emphasize the significance of the diplomatic reception taking place.

The Sand Village delegation, consisting of several dozen ninja of various ranks and specializations, could be seen approaching along the main road leading to Konoha's gates. At the center of the impressive formation walked a figure wearing the distinctive robes and ceremonial hat that marked him as the Fourth Kazekage.

The group came to a halt directly before Konoha's entrance, maintaining perfect formation as protocol demanded.

The Fourth Kazekage, Rasa, stepped forward from among his retinue. His eyes met Minato's with an expression that seemed complicated - containing elements of respect, wariness, and perhaps old memories of their previous encounters during times of conflict and uneasy peace.

After a moment of weighted silence, he spoke with carefully controlled politeness.

"I apologize for keeping you waiting here so long for our arrival!"
