Chapter 265 Side Project
Lucia began working on the small side project that Aleshia had suggested, while Aleshia took it upon herself to clean the room. Once she finished tidying up, she quietly watched Lucia as she configured and manipulated a new kind of magical amalgamation. The item currently resembled an amorphous and transforming mass, similar to a slimy creature.
After some time, the blob began to take shape, firming up and twisting in ways that were difficult to look at and stomach. Aleshia stared at the blob for a bit too long and started to feel a wave of nausea overcome her.
Aleshia looked away from the amalgamation and left the room. As usual, she saw kids playing with each other or play-fighting. The little ones appeared joyful, with little on their minds other than fun. Aleshia noticed that none of the older kids who had previously helped were around. She assumed they had gone off to do various jobs and collect money for the camp. Despite her unique role, she felt as though she wasn't doing enough.
Something that had become normal for Aleshia was going into the curse room to tend to the unwell. She wiped the sweat from the faces of those who had accumulated fatigue and checked for any abnormalities. Afterward, she decided to try curing someone on her own. Before doing so, she conjured the curing circle to examine it and verified if she could release it on her own.
After she moved mana into the spell, it dissipated into thin air, revealing many unresolved issues. It became clear that the spell required unusual and minute adjustments to remain stable. Aleshia knew that her mental capacities would not be able to handle this without full concentration. Deciding to give up for now, she left the room and noticed a group of children lying on the floor and in a circle, looking exhausted and breathless.
Aleshia entered the classroom again and saw Lucia working with a flattened, floating panel. Aleshia silently observed as Lucia fiddled with the device. It seemed that Lucia had erased one of the boards next to her, and a moment later, when she tapped something on the new device, the content reappeared on the board. Lucia then deleted this board, along with two others, in preparation for a new test. After that, she refreshed the boards she had erased, and the text reappeared.
Aleshia's eye caught a bar tick up and a number rise each time Lucia erased a board, leading Aleshia to understand that Lucia was testing the device's capacity to store information.
