Chapter 289 A Frantic Man
"Calm down, calm down, calm down," Aleshia repeated to the frantic man. Despite her attempts to soothe him, he did not seem to be calming down. The man continued to thrash about, but gradually, exhaustion began to take hold, and his wild movements weakened until he was finally unable to move. This stillness allowed his fighting body to return to a calmer state, allowing him to process his surroundings more clearly. Free from the panic that had clouded his judgment, he began trying to compose himself.
Seeing that the man was starting to calm down, Aleshia remarked on the situation. "That was rough. They were either in the middle of a fight when they went down, or the circle was messing with their systems. However, putting that aside, the way people are recovering and responding so quickly suggests that we are heading in the right direction. Now, all that would be left to do is to reduce the time it takes until they wake up after the first time. If we can achieve that, it will be a good sign."
"I agree," Lucia said, reflecting on the previous circles they had created. "It's surprising how effective they have become at cleansing the body of curses."
The man lay on the cot, silently observing and gradually absorbing everything around him. He tried to focus on the voice amidst the haze and distortion, hearing snippets of conversation.
When Lucia noticed that the man was regaining consciousness, she alerted Aleshia, saying, "Get ready to greet him."
As the man's brain fog began to clear, he tried to prop himself up to get a sense of his surroundings. He immediately spotted a witch and instinctively prepared for a fight. However, the earlier chaos had drained him of energy. Despite this, his mind remained cautious. He attempted to speak but found it difficult, realizing he was dehydrated. Nevertheless, he pressed on, his voice gravely and his throat dry. "Who are you, and why are you in this place?" he asked.
Aleshia took a moment to find her words, hoping that her hesitation wouldn't make the man suspicious, as others had been. "To answer your first question," Aleshia began as she was thinking something up, "I am a researcher of magic tasked with figuring out how to cure the curses that were on you and your group. As for your second question, I was brought here by Ren, and I stay because of Daniel. I hope that answers your questions." Aleshia concluded, hoping her explanations were satisfactory.
