March 1, 2256 — Musutafu City, Japan
Kurogane Estate
Morning sunlight filtered through the wide glass windows of the Kurogane estate's study, bathing the room in a soft golden hue. The quiet rustle of pages turning echoed through the air as a silver-haired boy sat cross-legged on a cushion, a thick book open in front of him.
His eyes moved quickly across the lines, far too quick for a boy who hadn't even turned four yet.
"System… what's today's date?" I asked, peering at the floating prompt that had accompanied me since I could remember.
[ Current date: March 1, 2256. Time: 7:03 a.m. ]
A small smile crept across my face. Only one month left until my fourth birthday. One month until my quirk finally awakened.
It feels like it's been a lifetime already, I thought. Almost four years had passed since I opened my eyes in this world, and so much had happened.
And with that single thought, memories began to flow back — a clear, unbroken recollection of nearly three years of growth in this new world.
[Flashback]
When I was around two years old, I began noticing small details about my parents. Mother's hands glowed faintly when she tended to minor scrapes, her touch soothing the pain almost instantly. Father, on the other hand, had a peculiar way of handling objects: he could store kinetic energy in his hands, releasing it to power small machines or even propel things with a subtle flick. They used their quirks sometimes to keep me entertained and I learnt their quirks which also got reflected in their status when I used appraisal on them later.
[Appraisal initiated. Target: Mother.]
[Quirk: Accelerated Healing. Range: Close proximity. Effect: Can accelerate the healing process of living tissue.]
[Appraisal initiated. Target: Father.]
[Quirk: Kinetic Reserve. Can store and release kinetic energy in controlled amounts.]
Both quirks were useful, though not flashy. Logically, I should inherit a hybrid of the two — something between kinetic manipulation and healing. But the System's first explanation after my reincarnation had stuck with me. My future quirk was connected to speed.
I didn't know which exact "speed" power I'd wished for back then. I remembered fantasizing about Quicksilver, Flash, Godspeed, and even more absurd abilities. But I only got one quirk. And the System had been annoyingly vague about it.
[ Quirk Awakening in: 30 days. ]
[ Quirk Nature: Speed-based. Detailed abilities unavailable until activation. Quirk is immune to theft, replication, and modification. ]
Every time I saw that prompt, curiosity burned in my chest. Just what had that ball of light chosen for me?
As I learned more, private tutors were occasionally brought in—not because I needed them, but because my parents liked the idea of cultivating a "genius child." I absorbed lessons at a pace far faster than anyone expected. By the time I was two and a half, I could read, write, and even do basic arithmetic with ease. But that's just what I decided to show on the outside.
One afternoon, bored from my usual lessons, I wandered into the family library. Tall bookshelves lined the walls, and a single wooden table with a bench stood in the center. I picked a book at random—something far beyond a toddler's reading level—and flipped it open.
[Scan suggested. Would you like to scan this book?]
"Scan…?" I asked, looking at the floating prompt.
[Scan: Rapid analysis and comprehension of information. Can read and understand written, visual, and auditory data. Languages automatically translated. Complexity: Unlimited.]
I blinked. "You mean… I can understand everything instantly?"
[Affirmative.]
Curiosity piqued, I tapped the confirmation. In an instant, the book's entire content flowed into my mind, perfectly comprehended. I could recall equations, concepts, and historical facts as if I'd spent years studying them.
[Memory Injection: Information acquired through Scan can be stored in long-term memory for later use.]
[Information Processing Enhancement: Cognitive processing speed and comprehension enhanced temporarily during active Scan.]
[Multitasking: Multiple cognitive processes can be performed simultaneously without mental fatigue.]

.
Within hours, the System had scanned thousands of volumes, building a personal knowledge base. When I asked why this function had never been mentioned before, the response was… infuriatingly simple.
[ Some auxiliary functions are locked until specific ages or conditions are met. Library scanning became available after Host reached required amount of age. ]
(Now you tell me?)
[ Query was not made previously. ]
"…You're unbelievable," I had muttered back then, shaking my toddler head.
I tried to pry further.
(What about multiverse travel? Or godly functions? Some hidden OP stuff?)
[ Negative. Locked functions are auxiliary conveniences for daily life. Examples: environmental scanning, map generation, autopilot, mental multitasking. No extraordinary or reality-breaking functions detected. ]
I was disappointed for maybe half a second… then I realized something.
Even these "auxiliary" abilities were ridiculous.
With [ Map Function ], I could view the entire Kurogane estate in real time or even the whole world for that matter, mark people like my parents or key staff, and know their locations instantly. [ Autopilot ] let my system control my body around while focusing mentally on something else, moving my body like a background process. [ Multitasking ] allowed me to read multiple books simultaneously while mentally conversing with the System about something else.
I wasn't just a genius. I was becoming a monster, even without my quirk.
On my third birthday, Father had a rare free day. He decided to take me to his company, Kurogane Industries, for a short tour. The building was massive, with machines and prototypes everywhere. Engineers and staff moved with precision, yet when they saw Father, they bowed respectfully. Some even knelt slightly when I passed by, calling me "Young Master." We walked through assembly lines, test chambers, and prototype rooms. I clutched Father's hand, eyes wide, absorbing every detail.
One quiet evening, lying on the rug and staring at the ceiling, I asked the question that had been lingering since I first arrived in this world.
"Hey, System…" I murmured now, lying back on the tatami mat with a thoughtful expression. "If reincarnation is real… does that mean heaven, hell, gods — all that stuff — is real too?"
A few seconds of silence.
[ Insufficient data. Current database lacks definitive information on metaphysical structures. System was created by the luminous entity responsible for Host's transmigration. Knowledge base was generated from Host's memories and System's own calculation protocols. ]
"So basically… you don't know."
[ Correct. ]
I sighed softly, gazing at the ceiling. "Figures. I thought maybe you'd have some cosmic insight."
[ Speculation: Entity may possess abilities far exceeding current universal understanding. However, System's access to said entity is terminated. ]
"…Yeah. That makes sense."
It was a fleeting thought, but it always crept in sometimes. If reincarnation happened once, what else existed beyond? Was that "ball of light" actually God? Or something else entirely?
But these thoughts always ended the same way. With no answers.
[Present Time]
I stretched and yawned, glancing out the window at the garden below. Cherry blossoms fluttered in the breeze. Mother was tending to the flowers while Father was probably at the company.
Even without my quirk, life was already incredibly easy. I had the System, the knowledge I could acquire at will, and an environment that nurtured my genius. Soon, I'd have speed at my fingertips, and no one could steal or copy it.
I stood and stretched my tiny limbs.
This life… I think I'm going to enjoy it a lot.
I walked over to the balcony, letting the warm light wash over me, and whispered to myself:
"One month… then I'll know. My quirk."
[Detailed Quirk information will be available upon Quirk Awakening.]
I nodded, eyes sparkling. The System hummed quietly, its mechanical calm a reassuring presence. With it backing me, the future felt limitless.
And soon… I'll finally see what I wished for in my past life manifest as power in this one.
