Barbarian demons surged through them like siege engines of flesh and muscle, while bloodthirsty vampires weaved between the ranks, their eyes glowing red as they whispered the promise of eternal thirst. From the rear, Dark-Winged horrors, fused with corrupted biology and raw darkness, commanded currents of cold death with every flap of their grotesque wings.

But it was the Ice Demons who formed the endless bulk of the horde—millions strong. Standing two meters tall, they marched with mechanical precision, bodies encased in razor-sharp glacier armor that hissed and steamed under the Abyssal cold. The weapons in their hands, conjured entirely from the frozen essence of the Eternal Night, shimmered like blades of jagged crystal, ready to impale, rend, and gut.

These were the Abyss' most disposable killers—the foot soldiers of frozen hell.

This is the most common, largest, and most useful cannon fodder in the Abyss layer of Eternal Night and Winter.

"KILL! KILL! KILL!"

"DEVOUR THEM ALL!"

"BLOOD! FLESH! FROST!"

Their warcries shook the earth.

Though low-level demons formed the main wave, mid-level monsters surged among them like war beasts unleashed from pens. The high-level ones were fewer, but in an army of millions, even a sliver meant thousands of elite beings capable of slaying warlocks in seconds.

On the towering walls of Monster City, a brilliant counterattack ignited.

Thousands of dragon-veined warlocks, clad in robes woven with hard Aetherbloom Silk threads and burning with arcane sigils, raised their staves and clawed hands toward the Skies. High chants thundered forth—spells in, language whispered by dragons.

Spells detonated like miniature suns.

Beams of chromatic lightning, solar flares, and acidic meteors rained down upon the demonic legions. Explosions tore apart hundreds at a time, ripping gaping craters through the frontlines. Acid storms boiled demons alive, melting skin from bone, fusing flesh to armor, and reducing once-roaring beasts into twitching piles of sludge.

Dark creatures howled in agony as their wings were shredded mid-flight, their torsos pierced by spears of elements or frozen in place only to be shattered by a second spell.

Blood painted the battlefield. Black, blue, green, and crimson—it flooded the plains in steaming rivers.

One coordinated magical barrage annihilated thousands in mere heartbeats, tearing through waves of cannon fodder like a god's wrath unleashed.

"Keep firing! Burn them until nothing moves!"

The voice of a master-level Dragon Warlock cut through the chaos—icy, commanding, utterly unshaken. With a sweep of his arm, he directed another barrage from the combat warlock battalions, a disciplined force trained in war magic since childhood.

And so, the storm of death continued, sky and earth alike drowning in flames, frost, screams, and gore.

The Demon Army of Eternal Night had arrived in full force—

And Monster City stood against the tide with magic, fire, and merciless resolve.

"Continue the attack!"

Following the order from the leader of the combat-type Dragon Vein Warlock Group, thousands of Dragon Vein Warlocks once again released their spells, overwhelmingly attacking the incoming demon army.

Thousands of demon cannon fodder died under the rain of spells once more.

At this time, the demons rushing at the front were already very close to the city wall.

Below, two legions emerged from each of the two city gates that had been opened wide.

Coming out of the city gate on the left were the Jackal and Warg Knights, numbering about ten thousand, riding majestic wargs.

On the right was a legion of Blood Blade Warriors composed of dragon-born humans wearing full armor, numbering approximately 30,000.

Both legions belonged to the secondary legions of Blackwing Lair.

Blackwing Lair is divided into eight core legions and more than a dozen secondary legions.

The strength requirements for members of the core legions are above senior level.

The strength requirements for members of the secondary corps only need to be intermediate level.

"Kill!"

"Kill!"

Seeing the surging demon army, the Warg Knights and Blood Blade Warriors showed no fear and launched a counter-charge toward the enemy.

Three torrents collided—flesh and blood stumps flying across the sky, while frost and blood energy caused wanton destruction.

Like sharp arrows, ten thousand Warg Knights rushed directly into the demon army and wielded their scimitars to slay and harvest the heads of demons and dark creatures.

After causing tens of thousands of casualties, nearly 10,000 Warg Knights quickly turned around and prepared to retreat under the city wall.

Seeing this, the demon army naturally refused to let the Warg Knights go, roaring and trying to swamp them with their numerical advantage.

At the critical moment, the Blood Blade Warrior Legion, which had been holding firm under the city wall to resist the incoming demon army, took action. Out of the 30,000 Blood Blade Warriors, 10,000 were sent forward to meet and cover the retreating Warg Knight Legion.

The Blood Blade Warriors are generally over two and a half meters tall. They hold a giant shield as high as a person in one hand and a large spear in the other, easily cutting down the cannon fodder demons in the demon army.

Those low-level ice demons had no ability to resist against these Blood Blade Warriors.

Among the demon army, a small number of mid-to-high-level demons and dark creatures were able to resist. However, in the face of the Blood Blade Army—who fought in tightly coordinated groups—these "reefs" were crushed one after another.

Of course, the counterattacks of these mid-to-high-level demons and dark creatures also caused some casualties to the Blood Blade Legion.

The injured Blood Blade Warriors were transferred to the rear, then picked up by Black Wing Warriors at the city gate and returned to the city. The bodies of fallen Blood Blade Warriors seemed to spontaneously combust without flames, instantly turning to ash and being blown away by the wind, leaving no trace behind.

Unexpectedly, everything about these Blood Blade Warriors poured into the Black Dragon Lord's draconic body, nourishing and strengthening the Black Dragon Lord's power.

After a fierce battle, the 10,000 Warg Knights who had charged into the demon army killed more than 50,000 demons, and finally returned to the towering city wall—hundreds of feet high—with the support of the Blood Blade Legion.

The Warg Knights, who numbered a little over 10,000 when they left, came back with a few hundred fewer, with just over 9,500 remaining.

Those who didn't return naturally perished during the charge.

Of course, like the Blood Blade Warriors, these fallen jackals and warg mounts all turned to ash silently, their power flowing into the Black Dragon through the void passage in the darkness.

"You guys take a break, it's our turn!"

The leader of the bugbear army nodded slightly to the blood-covered leader of the Warg Knight army. Without saying anything further, he rallied the more than 20,000 Bugbear Warriors behind him and charged toward the demon army that surged like a tide.

The Bugbear Warriors belong to one of the secondary legions—the Roaring Legion.

The heavily armored Bugbear Warriors swung the meteor hammers in their hands with both arms, blood energy flowing into the weapons. The meteor hammers radiated blood light as they crushed and blasted the heads and bodies of demons and dark creatures.

Savage and violent!

The Roaring Legion's more than 20,000 Bugbear Warriors, nearly three meters tall, were like a group of rampaging giants cutting through chickens as they slaughtered indiscriminately.

The power of the void gave them physiques far stronger than those of others of the same rank, allowing them to fight without restraint. In many cases, they were too lazy to dodge attacks from demons and dark creatures.

With their heavy armor, powerful bodies, and blood energy defenses enhanced by one or two levels, they were extremely difficult to kill.

In short, the Black Wing warriors of Blackwing Lair possess the power of the void. Not only do they have high health and defense, but their destructive power and agility are also extraordinary.

Their physical bodies are strengthened by the power of the void in all aspects—not just one—including strength, speed, agility, physique, resistance, and even the soul.

A group of great demons and master-level dark creatures standing behind the millions-strong demon army frowned slightly after seeing the results of the battle between Monster City and the demon army, though they were not too surprised.

After all, most of the demons and dark creatures below were just low-level cannon fodder.

Once one wave died, another would immediately take its place.

This is no joke. Originally, the demon army they brought numbered only 15,600,000, but now, after some time had passed since the battle began, Monster City had already caused at least 100,000 casualties to the demon army. Logically, the number should have dropped to 15.5 million.

But—

In the distance behind the demon army, groups of demons continued gathering, replenishing their numbers.

It was like a school of fish constantly gathering in the sea.

The slaughter in Monster City not only failed to reduce the size of the demon army—instead, as time went on, the number continued to rise slowly, reaching 15.6 million, then 15.63 million.

"Although it's fine to let them kill wantonly, the losses are too great. The adults will be angry," said a Frost Ice Demon, more than three meters tall and at the peak of the 19th order, named Yoo Leng.

"Then send out the Flying Legion and the Long-Range Attack Legion," a blue-skinned, one-horned demon responded.

These two were the strongest among the great demons and master-level dark creatures present, so the right to command naturally belonged to them.

The Abyss is simple and brutal—whoever is stronger and has the bigger fists speaks louder. Otherwise, keep your mouth shut.

With the nods of the two powerful demons, the rear of the demon army quickly assembled two legions.

One was a Flying Legion composed of various flying demons and dark creatures, while the other consisted of a type of demon with a single massive eye.

Above, hundreds of thousands of members of the Flying Legion rushed toward the city wall.

Below, tens of thousands of one-eyed demons advanced, approaching the city wall. Then, their single eyes flashed, unleashing frost rays.

In the blink of an eye, tens of thousands of frost rays, each as thick as a thumb, shot toward the Bugbear Warriors of the Roaring Legion.

However, the movements of the demon army had long since been noticed by those in Blackwing Lair. When the one-eyed demons began to gather, five master-level spellcasters silently began chanting incantations.

These five master spellcasters were led by Roy, the patriarch of the Sieglinde family. Roy was also the earliest follower of the Black Dragon Lord. He had already been a high-level spellcaster when he first pledged allegiance. After years of service and the strengthening of the power of the void, his caster level had now reached level 16, and his creature rank had already reached the 19th order.

The foundation of human beings is already weak. Compared with the difficulty of advancing to the 19th order, it is undoubtedly several levels easier than that of a true dragon.

Among the remaining four master-level spellcasters, one is a master-level Dragon Vein Warlock trained by Dragon Nest itself, and the other three joined on their own initiative after hearing about the reputation of Black Wing Lair over the years.

As the spell ended, the air was filled with surging magic.

Lava meteorites, lava fire rain, and earth-shattering fire pillars—high-tier fire spells were cast by five master-level spellcasters.

To deal with these demons, most of which have frost attributes, fire and lava spells are undoubtedly the most effective counter.

However, there are spellcasters on the Black Wing Lair side, and naturally, there are spellcasters on the demon army's side.

Not demons themselves, because the chaotic nature of demons makes it almost impossible for them to practice the spellcaster profession.

The spellcasters on the demon army's side are powerful dark creatures:

Dark Winged Men, Fallen Banshees, Frost Elemental Djinn, etc.

Noticing the spell fluctuations emerging from the sky, they all used their own methods to stop them.

Spells designed to disrupt magical flow collided mid-air with incantations still forming, twisting circles of power into snarls of chaos. Three of the five master-tier fire spells—brilliant in their formation—shattered like glass under the assault. Only two survived the arcane turbulence.

One roared down as a flaming meteor, a molten boulder dragged from the core of some infernal plane. When it struck the heart of the one-eyed demon legion, it exploded in a shockwave of blinding firelight and shrieking vapor. Thousands of frost-ray-spewing abominations were reduced to ash and bones in seconds, their screams drowned in searing flame.

Simultaneously, the earth beneath their clawed feet ruptured with a hellish groan. Jagged fault lines tore open like wounded flesh, spewing rivers of incandescent magma. The bubbling inferno surged through their ranks, melting armor, fusing limbs, and swallowing entire squads whole. In a breath, tens of thousands were erased, their corpses twisted into blackened statues mid-scream.

But the One-Eyed Legion endured. Though weak individually, their numbers were a tide of cold death. Frost beams—thin as blades, countless as stars—flooded the battlefield. Bugbear warriors of the Roaring Legion, hardy and feral, stood defiant, but even their brutish endurance had limits. One ray was nothing. A thousand? Enough to freeze a charging beast in mid-roar.

The bugbears were caught mid-charge and entombed where they stood, transformed into jagged ice sculptures nearly three meters tall. Within their frozen prisons, their blood still pumped—slowly, stubbornly—but escape was impossible.

Then came the slaughter.

From the edges of the field surged fresh waves of demons, wild and merciless. They howled abyssal war cries and descended upon the frozen bugbears with cleavers, barbed spears, and jagged abyssal glaives. The battlefield echoed with the sound of cracking ice and muffled screams as the statues were shattered one by one—each blow silencing a trapped warrior forever.

Crimson mist sprayed from ruptured ice as shattered limbs and gore rained down like sleet, painting the snow black with blood.

The demons who shattered the lives of their enemies were eager to devour the souls. However, what confused them was that all the dead bugbear warriors were turned into ashes. As for the souls?

They disappeared at the moment of death.

This scene was also seen by those big demons and master-level dark creature powerhouses.

At first, they didn't care much about it. But as the war progressed, this situation occurred every time the enemy died, and they gradually felt that something was wrong.

They didn't know much about the purpose of the Frost Lords who opened the door to the abyss, but their own purpose was still very clear—to harvest and devour souls, flesh and blood to strengthen themselves.

Compared with the unpalatable and indigestible souls, flesh and blood of their kind, the souls of creatures on the material plane are delicious and easy to digest, and are loved by almost all demons.

It can be understood that a demon can strengthen itself by devouring its own kind's souls, flesh and blood, but it's like eating a rock-hard breadstick. It is edible, but unpalatable and difficult to digest.

As for eating creatures such as humans and dwarves, it is a vegetarian dish with meat added—quite delicious, flavorful, and nutritious.

Eating the souls, flesh and blood of elves, goblins, and dragons is even more outrageous. It is a fragrant and very high-quality meat dish. The stronger the creature, the more nutritious it is.

The souls, flesh and blood of goblins, trolls, and gnolls are relatively different, but they are generally more delicious than the souls, flesh and blood of demons—at least at the level of soft sweet buns.

But now, they discovered that from the beginning of the war to the present, they had not eaten a piece of "soft sweet buns." Instead, the number of their own deaths continued to increase, which made this group of great demons and master-level dark creatures a little restless.

"How could this be happening?"

The Vampire Duke narrowed his crimson eyes, a rare frown marring his otherwise composed features. His voice, though calm, carried the weight of genuine confusion.

"It's likely..." murmured the Dark-Winged Man, his voice a low growl, "...that some hidden altar or ancient formation lies buried here—something that siphons souls the moment they depart. Or perhaps... these monsters believe in gods, and the souls of the dead are led away by gods

A heavy silence followed his words, as every abyssal warlord and dark scion present felt a chill crawl up their spines.

Their expressions darkened.

For demons, the soul was everything. It was power. Currency. Sustenance. Without it, war had no reward—only meaningless carnage.

"That might explain the absence of soul essence," muttered a vampiric noble with bloodstained lips, eyes narrowed in growing alarm, "but it doesn't explain why the flesh—even the blood—disintegrates into dust the moment death claims them. Not even a scrap left for consumption. Not a drop to drink."

He pointed toward a mass of frenzied demons tearing at a monstrous corpse that collapsed into powder before their eyes. The frenzied devouring had turned into a cannibalistic riot. They were no longer fighting the enemy—they were turning on each other, desperate to feed, to taste anything.

"I've never seen anything like it," another high-ranking demon muttered. "This isn't natural. This... this is divine interference, or worse."
