This voice was too distinctive. There was almost no need for confirmation; Pei Zhen must have been awake.
"Yes, Boss, Madam, I was disrespectful."
The man called Hei Ying shuddered and immediately took two steps back. His previously unbridled expression vanished, his daring dissipating. He lowered his head in confusion, bowed slightly towards Xu Si, then quickly turned and left the top floor.
Xu Si watched him leave and, without hesitation, closed the door, then let out a sigh of relief.
Realizing that Pei Zhen seemed to be awake, her breath hitched again instantly.
Her light footsteps became somewhat heavy. She sat on the sofa, hesitating for a moment, before slowly making her way back to the bedroom.
The dim bronze desk lamp had been extinguished at some unknown time; fine dust leaped in the searchlight from outside the window.
The bedroom had returned to darkness.
"Pei Zhen, are you awake?"
