A little servant girl rushed into the room where Zhou Xiuer was.

This servant girl had been brought here when Madam Zhou encountered someone trying to sell their daughter while going to offer incense. Zhou Xiuer, without a personal maid in the Wu Family, had clung to Madam Zhou to buy the girl, thus the servant girl's presence.
Zhou Xiuer named her Zhien, meant to make her understand gratitude, recognize who saved her, and know to whom she should be loyal.
Zhien was just a girl from a farming family who had been sold due to starvation. She hadn't been formally taught and knew little of propriety. Despite trying to learn from the maids at the Wu Residence, she still had much to grasp.
