Last month I was speaking with the writer of "Chronicles of Humanity", a man you might know dear reader. He and I discussed in depth the contents of this book and about the new information we've gotten from these letters you've been reading. At some point, the topic of the current conflict in the 4th quadrant came up, and Fariz said something that stuck with me. He said, "Adam, the entire of humanity is one entity, everything that happens to us happens because we once broke a window, but it's too dark to clean the shards". In my astoundment at the cleverness of this man, I asked "Will we ever see?", he said, "We are better off not seeing". Are we?
I stayed silent because of Fariz's decisiveness. He was a soldier once, he saw things I'd rather never see. He knows a side of humanity I don't, so arguing with him would be lying to myself about how much I know about humanity. I rather see humans as evolving, a species that has yet to reach a level of sentience that would allow us to leave behind our bloodthirst.
But if what Fariz said is true, if we walk in a dark room full of glass shards, would it not be better to turn the lights on? What will we see if we turn the lights on? Will see ourselves for who we truly are and despise it? Or will we see it's too late? Now I fear looking inside, turning that light on, what if what I see, what we see, is the end? Is the light how humanity fades into the memory of the universe?
