Balthazar began to instruct Dave on some Sorcery basics and then walked over to me.
"Just stand still." Balthazar said as he placed his hand on my forehead.
I noticed Balthazar chanting some sort of spell in a language I didn't know and then I suddenly felt a wave of magic flow from my forehead to the rest of my body.
Balthazar then gently removed his hand and looked at me in shock
"Level 100, I didn't realize you were only at that level. Being at that level you still managed to defeat a level 500 Sorcerer? I haven't experienced that probably ever in my 2,000 years." Balthazar said as he nodded in acknowledgment.
I didn't know the significance of my level, but if a Wizard who had been alive for 2,000 years was level 500, I'd say that I'm doing pretty good. All this means is I will become very powerful in the future.
"Alright, take the book, step into the Merlin Circle and I will impart the most basic meditation technique that a Sorcerer should know.
Each technique has its nuances, but the fundamental idea is the same, what I'm about to teach you is the way the Merlineans use it." Balthazar explained as I took the position he explained.
"Clear your mind of all distractions, concentrate as instructed in the book, and then begin to build up your magical power. The point of meditation is to give your brain something to think about." Balthazar explained.
After reaching an optimal state of meditation following Balthazar's instructions, I began to feel my magical power rising. It wasn't significant, but it was rising nonetheless.
If before I could only access a tenth of my magical power, then now I could access a bit more and as I utilize this technique, my pool of magical energy will increase.
It is this technique that makes Sorcerers in this universe so strong. This technique increases their pool of magical energy, similar to what I was able to do by exhausting my magical power to cause growth, but this also increases the strength of the body, a fundamental weakness most magic users face.
This strengthening is a very slow burn though, it will increase my strength surely, but at an infinitesimally small pace.
Despite how small the increase is, it is an increase, so it is worth it. And now I can increase my magical power without having to suffer from a headache and for my body to feel sick and weak.
I did notice that the magical increase was vastly superior to the physical increase, but that is to be expected, after all, it is a magical technique made specifically for that purpose.
Balthazar then began to explain the importance of leather shoes and while Dave complained, I couldn't care less, learning magic is all that matters. Balthazar said he'd bring me a pair as he had only planned for Dave.
Balthazar then stood before us.
"If you understand how meditation works, then it'll be easy and you'll eventually get used to it. Now the first spell I'm going to show you is Lightning Ball, it is one of the most powerful lightning spells that I have created combining science and magic over the past 2,000 years. The attack speed is incredibly quick and the power is very good as well." Balthazar explained.
Balthazar then showed us how to position our hands and the basics to do before using the spell then continued to explain.
"After being struck, the enemy's magic will be disrupted and they will soon lose their ability to cast magic. Keep in mind this will be the main magic you will be learning going forward, Dave." Balthazar explained, the last part specifically for Dave.
He started to demonstrate, and a large ionic ball of light began to form between his hands.
As I watched the demonstration, I was in awe of this display of magic. I had only seen this kind of effect in some Sci-Fi movies in my past life, but they paled in comparison.
From what I observed, this magic could be on par with the Killing Curse in terms of the destruction it could reap, but could be blocked by a powerful enough shield just as the Killing Curse can be blocked by a normal physical shield or object.
I plan to invest plenty of time in this magic and it is more powerful than many of the spells I have in my current arsenal.
After the demonstration of the spell, Balthazar began going into great detail about the workings of magic, specific tactics, safety measures, etc.
Getting one-on-one guidance from a teacher who can break down and explain a great deal of magical knowledge is vastly superior to reading books on your own.
This is probably the true reason why Hermione became one of the best witches of her age as she learned from the books and then was able to bounce ideas and learn from knowledgeable people.
I felt that I had learned all the ins and outs of the Lightning Ball spell and it had only been 30 minutes.
My thinking was interrupted by the sound of my stomach rumbling.
"Sorry about that, I haven't eaten since the other day." I said.
"No I'm sorry, I haven't eaten anything in the last 10 years that I forgot that people still need to eat." Balthazar explained.
"Wait, you can live for 10 years without having to eat anything?" I questioned.
Balthazar then went into a long explanation about how after a Sorcerer reaches level 300, they would reach such a level where things like needing to eat and sleep are no longer required.
He also mentioned that there are not many Sorcerers who have been able to reach that level or beyond, most were stuck at level 200 for all their lives.
With his words, I realized that the meditation technique he'd taught me was actually what allowed the Sorcerers to be immortal, but I don't know if this is the exact spell that Merlin cast to allow Balthazar and his other Apprentices to not age after all this time.
More research was needed before I could make that determination.
