The last echo of the Tower's proclamation faded, leaving Kyle in silence. The rules of the game had been irrevocably changed. He braced himself for a moment of reprieve, a chance to process the bombshell that had just been dropped, but the Tower had other plans.
There was no quiet moment in the resting area. Instead, reality warped around him with a sickening lurch.
'No break,' Kyle thought, 'The Tower must really be in a hurry.'
The familiar, sterile white of the resting area was replaced by another similarly white room, albeit much bigger than the last.
Four other figures stood scattered across the chamber.
'Woah. What are the chances?'
Kyle knew three of them. Void, dragon companion, stood nearby with that smug grin. Riya stood with her arms folded, looking equal parts annoyed and relieved.
And then there was Milo, his self-proclaimed rival standing next to the only person Kyle didn't recognize.
