Chapter 59 - The End Times 4

Breaking away from the main battle, Sam and Jared ran out around the edge, heading for the backline.

(On your nine!) Jared called out as a group of vampires went for them.

(Damn! Alright, let's end it quickly and fall back further. We'll blend in with the trees in the background,) said Sam.

Jared dove in, knocking one over while clamping his jaws on another. Three more attacked his legs in a bid to cripple him, but in came Sam, tearing into them, his jaws flashing from one to the other, removing limbs as easily as breathing. He picked up much in his time with Dean and Paul, both animals in mind and body when it came to fighting.

Finishing them off, they sped away from the battle towards the tree line, continuing their way around.

.

Caius watched the fighting with an ever-growing sense of unease. Most of the wolves were still up and fighting, with no end in sight, and an ever-growing number of vampire limbs littered the floor, spread across the entire battlefield.

The guards they prided themselves on for so long were now pathetically outmatched by mere dogs, making him fight the urge to spit in disgust.

A grin involuntarily spread across his face as he witnessed Aro being easily defeated by one. The moment was soon replaced by shock as the realization of how effortlessly it had transpired, particularly as the victor was in human form. His astonishment escalated when Felix was the next to succumb, and had it been feasible, his eyes would have certainly bulged out at the extraordinary scene that unfolded thereafter.

"Aro certainly bit off more than he could chew this time," said Marcus.

Caius was startled, having almost forgotten that the man was present, given his silence since their landing. He had become akin to a phantom, acutely aware that Aro kept him around exclusively for his unique gift, as he contributed nothing else of value. The image of the man he had been before the death of his wife was now a fading recollection.

"Perhaps," said Caius, giving him a side eye, wondering if he intended the pun, for Marcus was not one to jest even at the best of times.

A familiar shrill scream pierced his ear, and he felt what was akin to a heart attack as something deep within him broke a little. Whirling around, he sees one of his worst fears happening as his mate is being mauled to death by a wolf.

Forgetting that they weren't real werewolves, and had no deadly venom of their own to implement.

Momentarily losing all reason, Caius uttered a deafening wail of sorrow and attacked. Missing his first strike, he was immediately placed on the back foot by the black wolf's relentless response, and that old fear soon reared its ugly head as he was faced with those imposing teeth snapping back at him.

From nearby, he could hear Marcus sigh deeply, closing his eyes, "At least now it can all be over, finally."

"What are you..." Caius began looking over but was pushed out of the way by Renata as the black wolf nearly got him while the other wolf took Marcus down.

"I'm Sorry, Master Caius. My gift doesn't work on them, and I can only do so much without it," she apologized, helping him back to his feet as the other guards set themselves upon the beasts.

Caius angrily pulled his hand away from her. "Useless! You're all useless! I want those beasts dead! And I want them dead now!"

Excluding Renata, he was left with only four guards with combat training, having thought the backline would be safe.

.

Hearing Caius's wail, Aro manages to pull his sight away from Felix getting eaten and sees their mates fall with Marcus soon after.

Aro was suddenly hit by the most surreal feeling he's had to date as everything seemed to slow around him and then hit him all at once about how truly and completely fucked everything was.

Noticing the golden wolf looking the same way, their eyes met, and he could have sworn the wolf grinned as it took off toward his fallen mate.

Unleashing an otherworldly furious roar that would have chilled lesser creatures to their core, sending the surrounding vamps cowering away in fear of incurring his wrath.

Aro lost it.

Enraged for the first time in eons, he sprints after the golden beast, swatting away fellow vamps who get in his way, intending to tear that wolf apart at all costs. Showing a strength many would have thought impossible for one lacking in such gifts.

"To All Those Who Can Hear Me, Kill That Golden Wolf At All Costs! To The One That Brings Me His Head, You May Ask Of Me Anything And It Shall Be Done! Wolves Included Should You Be The One To Bring Me His Head, ANYTHING YOU WANT! BE YOU VAMPIRE OR WOLF, BRING ME HIS HEAD! AND IT SHALL BE YOURS!" shouted Aro.

.

Demetri and his group step out of the woods, hearing the voice of their Master, "Aro needs us," he says, leading his group back to the main battle.

.

(Someone sounds desperate,) snickered a wolf.

(Fuck me, don't look now but here comes more,) said another.

(Aren't they the ones who left earlier before the battle? Forgot about them. They must have finished that other group Sam was talking about,) said Leah thoughtfully.

(Looks like Seth sees them. Most vampires around here seem to be ignoring us now and going for Dean. We need to pick up the pace and cut down as many as we can while we can,) said Paul, catching a vampire on his left who attempted to get by him.

The hard-fought fight that they gave every tooth and nail to, suddenly became a chase as they spent more time blocking and running down vamps crazily going for Dean in a bid to get the reward.

They began to swarm.

.

After giving Aro his signature wolf smirk, Dean baited him by going for the mates and was not disappointed when he heard his speech following behind.

Coming to a skidding halt, kicking up dirt, Dean abruptly turns to face him, ready to end this. Knocking over any vamp that got in his way.

The turnabout was not unexpected, as Aro willingly plays chicken with the wolf, intending to stop him at all costs to protect his mate and future.

Dean leaps at him, claws outstretched, teeth bared.

Last minute, Aro reduces his speed and, after assessing the creature's velocity, executes a precise kick aimed at the wolf's head.

Prepared for the wolf's shift to human to avoid it, Aro spun into another kick, hitting Dean away, who shifted back mid-air and landed as a wolf, quickly charging again. Ignoring the other vamps swiping at him as he ran by.

Clashing with Aro once more, they cleared the area temporarily with their deadly dance. The vamp expertly dodged and weaved, throwing strike after strike, against the wolf's dipping in and out, evading the deadlier moves going for his legs or skull while tanking the others.

Tempted to shift again, Dean thought better of it as he witnessed how truly skilled Aro was in a fight.

Then the conscientious vamps watching at the edges were shoved away and trampled upon as the swarm arrived. Even Aro looked bewildered as he was pushed aside and nearly trampled over in their attempt to claim his reward. Watching as the wolf was tackled and washed away in a flood of vamps, each vying for the kill. His lips began to curl.

(Dean! We have to help him!) cried Leah, witnessing her husband disappear under a horde of vamps.

The other wolves could only stand there looking at her in sorrow, unsure what to say or do.

(GET OFF ME!) yelled Dean, finding his claws on solid ground again underneath a mountain of vamps. In a feat of incredible strength, he burst out, flinging vamps everywhere as they failed to hold on.

Aro's lips fell once more as he saw the golden wolf rapidly approaching.

Acting fast, he caught the beast's jaws and flung it away, grimacing as his fingers were caught inside.

Scowling, Aro glanced down at his right hand with four fewer fingers and watched angrily as the wolf turned, slowly licking his chops after swallowing his prize.

"I'm going to rend the flesh from your bones and have your coat used to wipe the asses of my slaves!" Aro shouted.

The vamps swarming soon gained their bearings and held off on their attack, unsure if they should continue.

"What are you waiting for?! Kill Him!" shouted Aro.

But they were interrupted when 8 wolves jumped into their midst, tearing into them.

(Dean, we got this. Finish it!) shouted Paul, Sam, Jared, Leah, and Quil back from the brink, along with three other pack members.

Dean stalked forward as Aro took in the disaster around him.

"No, no, no, I won't fall here, I won't die to you, to some filthy rotten lesser thing. To a fucking beast!" yelled Aro, "My Immortal Empire Won't Fall Here!"

Unimpressed, Dean snorted and attacked.

Though furious, Aro kept a sound mind. He knew if he could just kill this one, the rest would follow. Only the gold one could eat them; otherwise, the others would have by now, meaning only the gold one could actually kill them with no fire or sun on hand.

He could still do this; he could still win. With or without fingers, he would bring this beast down. Speed was key; he had to be faster, anticipate his moves, wait for the opportunity to go for the kill, and strike with everything he had.

Regrettably, Dean did not provide him with the chance he sought. This time, he adopted a measured approach, concentrating solely on countering while steadily advancing. His reflexes outpaced Aro's ability to respond, catching him off guard with the remarkable speed and aggression of his counters. Determined to conclude the battle swiftly, given the peril faced by his packmates, Dean dismantled him piece by piece, ultimately consuming his head in triumph.

Aro could see now, as he slid down the beast's throat to his inevitable demise, that he never stood a chance.

Shifting to his human form, Dean yells, "Your king is dead! Flee now while you still can little vampires, for your end is near!"

.

Unable to get by Seth, Demetri could only watch in horror as his Master fell before him.

Their kings dead, the vampires fled, and the wolves chased, taking down a few before letting the rest go and howling victoriously.

However, it was a bittersweet feeling for some as they took in their losses, for not everyone made it to the end.
