Chapter 183 - Chapter 180 - Slowly Slipping Away.

Herbert Medical And Technology

The next day, Blaze arrived at his company. As he walked through the giant hallway, a palpable tension hung in the air. Employees felt it-an eerie, suffocating presence emanating from him. Arthur had felt it for the past ten days, unable to decipher what his boss was thinking.

Arthur knew better than to ask. If Blaze wasn't sharing his thoughts, it meant he didn't want Arthur involved in anything concerning Savannah. But could he really handle it alone?

Blaze settled into his enormous office chair. Arthur stood in front of him, holding out an iPad.

"Just as you asked, Boss. I've got Mrs. Baldwin's phone records—every call she made or received, all the messages exchanged. Nothing out of the ordinary, but..." Arthur paused, unsure.

Blaze's eyes locked onto a specific number. "This one?" he asked, voice sharp.

Arthur nodded. "Yeah. Our men traced it. Here's what we found." He took the iPad back, sliding to a new screen. "It's him. This number is registered to a fruit seller, about 20km from here."

Blaze examined the picture of an elderly man he didn't recognize. "Have you met him?"

Arthur nodded. "I went to his usual spot. At first, he said he didn't remember anything from that day. Then he switched his story, claiming he must have dialed the wrong number."

Blaze's expression turned steely. "What did they discuss?"

"He's in his late 70s. He doesn't recall much but insists Savannah called about fruit. She denied it and hung up."

Blaze grabbed the iPad, scrutinizing the call duration. His eyes darkened.

Over thirty minutes.

"I need all the CCTV footage from that area in front of me. Now," he commanded.

Arthur sprang into action.

Blaze wouldn't let anyone who dared to mess with Savannah walk away unscathed.

Baldwin's Mansion

The evening sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a golden glow over the grand mansion, its towering pillars and vast corridors shrouded in an eerie silence. Savannah finally stepped out of her room after locking herself away for ten long days. The air outside felt different, heavier, pressing down on her like an unshakable weight.

Her eyes roamed over the mansion—the very place she once called home. But now, it felt stifling, like a gilded cage that held her prisoner, a place filled with secrets she could never uncover, a tomb for the child she had lost. Just the thought of it made her chest tighten with overwhelming sorrow. Her steps were slow and tentative, as if she were navigating a dream that could twist into a nightmare at any moment.

As she made her way down the grand staircase, her gaze fell on the hall below. Blaze was on the couch, deep in conversation with Arthur, papers strewn across the table in front of them. The flickering chandelier above cast long shadows on their faces, but Savannah could still see the sharp lines of Blaze's features. He looked worn out, weighed down by something invisible, yet completely engrossed in their discussion.

She lingered for a moment, watching them, a fleeting temptation tugging at her to step forward, to listen, to say something. But that moment passed just as quickly as it came, and she turned away, choosing to ignore them. Yet, Blaze had always known when she was near. It was as if he could sense her presence, a pull in his very soul that alerted him to her existence.

The instant she moved toward the hallway, his head shot up. He watched her retreating figure for a heartbeat before springing to his feet.

"Ana," he called out, his voice rough and uncertain.

Her steps hesitated. Hearing her name on his lips after what felt like an eternity sent a shiver down her spine, but she didn't turn around. Not yet.

Blaze took a step closer, bridging the gap between them. And when she finally turned to face him, everything else around them faded into the background. He could see her now, truly see her. Her face was paler than before, her eyes duller, haunted by something he couldn't quite grasp.

In that moment, he realized just how much he had missed her. How desperately he had longed for her presence. The days without her had felt hollow, lifeless. But here she was. And for the first time in what felt like ages, his heart began to stir, his soul felt alive again.

He instinctively reached out to embrace her, to pull her close and reassure her that she wasn't alone. But before he could, Savannah took a small step back.

The gesture was small, almost unnoticeable, but to Blaze, it was a dagger straight to his heart. A wall had formed between them, one he never saw coming.

Arthur, who had been observing from his seat, felt a wave of sympathy for his boss. He wanted to intervene, to say something, but he held back. This was not his battle to fight.

Blaze clenched his jaw, his hands balling into fists at his sides. He never imagined they would end up this far apart, with this unspoken hurt hanging between them. But he refused to let it linger. No way would he let her slip away again.

Savannah turned away, her footsteps echoing in the now charged mansion. The air felt heavy, as if it were holding its breath, waiting for something to shatter the silence. The whole house sensed the change, the unvoiced sadness thickening the atmosphere.

And as Blaze stood there, watching her fade into the shadows of the hallway, he made a choice.

He wouldn't lose her. Not again.

No matter what it took, he would fight to bring her back to him.
