Chapter 3 - Of the Rising Sun

Moritsugu Nobutada took a deep breath. He had just killed one of the top predators in this region and while it wasn't the strongest predator or even a grown version of it, it was a very dangerous one nonetheless. The amount of strength and speed the blood tiger held was immense, but nothing was so great as its cunning and evil nature. So coming out on top during a fight meant a great deal for him.

Finally, after calming down somewhat, Nobutada turns around and takes a closer look at the child. It had a tuft of black hair and was very well built for a person so young. The odachi was far too long for it, but it seemed to carry it without thinking. But what surprised Nobutada most, was the intelligence in his eyes. There was something that unsettled him about this fact.

"Hello. My name is Moritsugu Nobutada. I am pleased to meet you. Would you do me the honour of telling me your name?"

Nobutada just starts talking. He has no idea whether the child would understand. But he thinks to himself that a child walking around on Yngiyo is most likely to be a descendant of their people at some point. So his language is most likely the right one.

"Kenpachi ... Kenpachi of Zaraki," the child answers after a moment.

Kenpachi is surprised that he can understand the man who looks like a futuristic Japanese Samurai. The irony of it all is not lost on him.

"Oh? Well, nice to meet you Kenpachi. Where did you come from? Where are your parents? Who are your parents? Why are you down here alone?" Nobutada fires off a series of questions which Kenpachi doesn't answer. After Nobutada is finished, he simply motions for him to follow, turns around and walks away. He walks back the way he came from, towards his capsule. That would be the easiest way to explain everything in a short amount of time.

Nobutada follows the strange child for a while and they finally reach the dropsite of Kenpachi's capsule. The young man looks at it for a while and goes around it. Unlike most if not all other human worlds, Nobutada who was raised on Yngiyo knows about technology as it is taught in school and everyone, no matter the path they choose for themselves later, has to know the basics in all topics. So Nobutada realises what he is looking at and then looks at Kenpachi. That makes perfect sense. The boy is but an infant right now and while his rather tall stature, which indicates him being a very small child of roughly one or two years of age, he arrived in this gestation capsule.

The look on Nobutada changes suddenly and he looks at Kenpachi with sympathy, but also with grudging respect. He sees Kenpachi, who has just 'hatched' in a sense, standing up and wielding a sword to kill a Warp Spider. As one who follows Bushido, there is not much that impresses him more. He suddenly smiles and decides to take the child home with him.

"Well, it looks like you came from the stars, Kenpachi. Say, would you like to come with me? Me and my family and the others in our city would be delighted to get to know you," Nobutada spoke gently and with respect. In his eyes Kenpachi was but a warrior already.

The infant took the test young men had to undertake to become grown men, while he was but a child. That was unheard of and deserving of respect. Everyone in Yngiyo would agree to that. But the people of Yngiyo also had a gentle side, whenever they unstrapped their swords and armour. For Bushido despite being translated as the 'way of the warrior' is not just a way of fighting, it is a way of life. Stressing virtues such as loyalty, honour, obedience, duty, filial piety, and self-discipline. It is loosely analogous to the European concept of chivalry, but there are major differences.

Nobutada took out a small device from his clothes. It was a multipurpose tool, which could be used in a variety of ways to survive in the wild. But the use of it was considered as the young man having failed his test, with one exception. There was a heater installed in the small device, as strange as that sounds. It is allowed for the young men to use the heater once a day if the weather turns bad for over a week. Using it any more, sooner or for anything other than that, will result in failure and the man has to take the test again.

Nobutada pressed a button and the device grew slightly. Pressing a button projected a screen above his palm and a moment later a face could be seen. A young woman was looking at him.

"Oh, Nobutada. Did you fail your task? Are you in danger? We recorded an abnormality in your heartbeat," the woman says.

"Greetings Amaya. I am not in danger and didn't fail. In fact, I succeeded in killing a Blood Tiger."

"Ooh, that's impressive Nobu. So why are you calling then? You know that you have to carry your prey back here to the drop site yourself. That is part of the test."

"I know, Amaya. I call because I encountered something strange and unexpected and request extraction. Not for me but for him," Nobutada says and shows Kenpachi who is just standing there watching everything happen.

"Hm? Is that..."

"A child yes. I encountered him as he was about to be attacked by the Blood Tiger. I managed to kill it before anything could happen, but there is more to this than we guessed."

"I see. So just an extraction?"

"No, there is also the small craft that Kenpachi arrived in. It is not that large, so we could pack it up and then take it with us. I just don't have the tech with me right now."

"Understood, I will notify the Headcaptain about this. And depending on what he decides, I'll send the drones for an extraction. Stay safe."

"Thank you, Amaya."

.

Amaya turns off the screen and immediately connects to one of her colleagues to take over for her, while she goes to inform the Headcaptain. Her job was an important one and one she took very seriously. She was part of the surveillance unit. The surveillance unit had the job of keeping track of almost everything in Ynqiyo. They observed the warp with specially created technology that measured its currents. After the Age of Strife, where the Warp Storms raged across the galaxy, they made sure to be informed if something happened.

It is also due to the surveillance unit, that they already knew of Kenpachi's arrival, or they knew that something had come out of the Warp and landed on Yngiyo. A strike team had already been assembled and was about to head out to kill whatever it was that set foot on Yngiyo. The people of Yngiyo might be following virtues such as loyalty, honour, obedience, duty, filial piety, and self-discipline, but there was a very big difference between letting everything happen and being nice to everyone and dealing a heavy strike against anything threatening their way of life.

Bushido still means 'war' and as such the people of Yngiyo know how to do it and do it well. They are not beyond hiding in the dark, using subterfuge and then dealing the killing blow, no matter how dishonourable it may seem for the enemy. Their military, the Gotei 13 as they call it, is a deadly army of highly trained, technologically equipped and very very well-trained men. Their technology is very much still coming from STCs and they never truly stopped developing and looking for other ways to grow. But they don't focus on it.

They like to enjoy the simple things in life, while still being very prepared for anything that might come out of the Warp. So when the message was sent to Amaya, that this 'thing' that came out of the Warp was in fact a gestation pod, the threat might not have been as high, but they wanted to still make sure.

Amaya walks to the Headcaptians quarter and knocks. As it is custom, she waits outside for him to let her in.

"Enter."

"Excuse me," she says and enters the room.

"Amaya, how are you doing? I heard there was something that came out of the Warp. What happened?"

"Yes, Headcaptain. I just got word from Nobutada. He has made contact with the object that flew out of the Warp."

"What? What did he say?"

"He reported that it was in fact a small child inside a gestation capsule. The child seems extraordinary apparently and was about to face a Blood Tiger, when Nobutada intercepted it and killed the beast, successfully completing his coming-of-age task."

"Oh, that's good to hear. So a child inside a gestation capsule flies out of the Warp and lands on our planet. Not only that, but that child was about to face a Blood Tiger. You probably mean he was about to be attacked by the beast?"

"I am unsure about that. But what we do know, is that according to the surveillance, this child has killed an Acromantula on his own. We weren't sure at first, but the surveillance showed clearly that it was the child. So it stands to reason, that it was probably about to fight the Blood Tiger as well."

Moritsugu Katsumoto, the Headcaptain of the Gotei 13 was stumped. A child that came out of a gestation capsule ... killed an Acromantula, a Warp beast that spits out poisonous and corrosive substances... on his own. Many different thoughts ran through his head.

"Could it be a Warp entity or a Warp denizen?"

"Not from what we have witnessed to this point. There are many other possibilities however and this might be an attempt to deceive us and then attack when we feel safe. However, the strike team will first bring the child back to the medical unit. There the child will be looked at and we will perform various tests, to make sure it is truly a human child."

"Good. Notify me when the child arrives and also when my son arrives."

"Of course, Headcaptain."

"I will inform the Shogun. He will have to know about this as well. Thank you, Amaya, you may leave."

Amaya bows deeply and then walks out, leaving the Headcaptain thinking.

.

The strike team arrived in a rather small spaceship.

[Picture]

The ship looked small from the outside, but when it landed roughly 50 soldiers, all dressed in highly advanced armour exited.

[Picture]

Despite not looking like it, this group had access to insane technology. They were the very first assault and response team that dealt the first blow to invaders or beasts should the need arise. So despite looking rather plain, they were beasts. Their armour was far more powerful than any Power Armour in the future and their Katanas were closer to Hyperphase Swords from Necrons than they were to Power Swords.

"Moritsugu Nobutada, greetings." the man in front said.

"Greetings, Lord Keion. This is the child."

"I see. Has it shown any hostility towards you?"

"No. I think he is very young still. But he told me his name, Kenpachi of Zaraki."

"Hm? A Yngiyo name. Peculiar. Very well, we will take it from here."

Two men approached and placed a handcuff on Kenpachi's wrist. This little device would deep-fry his body. They change electrons to positrons and ... well ... the person dies.

But when they wanted to take away Kenpachi's Zanpakuto, he suddenly grew defensive. This caused a chain reaction and they almost pressed the button to kill him, when Nobutada interfered.

"Lord Keion, please don't. He landed here on this planet with nothing but that Odachi. I'm sure we have everything under control to allow this, no? I would see it as a personal favour."

"We don't make exceptions ... but I can see your point. We shall allow it for now."

After that, they took Kenpachi on the spacecraft and left the area.
