"Answer me this, Conrad. Why did she choose you instead of her beloved big brother?"
That question had Conrad confused, he truly didn't know how he should answer it because he was just as clueless.
His mind has had already circled around that question countless times in the last few minutes. He didn't think the conclusion he arrived to would be enough to satisfy him.
That's what had him worried the most. Fern's deep blue eyes were boring into Connie's, like twin drills digging into his soul as if he intended to unearth something buried deeper.
Connie felt himself shrinking under that gaze. It seemed as though if he failed to give him a satisfying response, then something bad might happen.
There was no avoiding it, unless he told a lie, but there was no real merit in telling one and besides, what would he say?
