Chapter 112 - Smells like war(and money)

The stairway to the console was guarded by three more soldiers and a particularly annoying turret that was ACTUALLY in a good placement this time. It was on the first level of the stairs facing the hallway leading to said stairs. Needless to say unless we bum rushed that shit and got shot up for it we needed to rely on Lil getting over there and blowing it the fuck up. I mean I suppose I could have phase locked it but my friends did ask me to leave some of the fun to them so I chose not to.-

After that hiccup it was smooth sailing as the base was empty all the way to the console. Using Tannis's half mad scrawling's I put in the initial starting sequence for lifting the lock down which was un-fucking-fortunately the easy part. The hard part was that we now had to hoof it to the three signal relays to complete the process and thus release the echo network back to full utility. When we walked into the second vehicle bay however we found another three soldiers waiting for us with one of them being a heavy or "badass" engineer.-

"Wasn't expecting to find an elite troop being left behind but I'll fucking take it!" I said eagerly after we killed the guy.

"Gotta agree, what's this guy even doing here?" Morty asked confused.

Roland checked the area and the bodies before letting us know what he thought "Looks like he was coming back to resupply. See these marks on the armor? We didn't cause these, something else did." he said pointing out the small cuts on the armor.

I looked them over before frowning "Roland use your armors energy blade to leave a cut on the armor, I want to see something." I said seriously and he did as I asked.

The energy blade came out in all it's glowing glory as he slashed the armor before putting the blade away. Examining the damage and comparing it to these other bits of damage I sighed.

"I was right, it's the same. Steele must have really pissed off the Seraphs if they are here and not at the vault guarding it." I said seriously.

"You saying those Eridian robots are here?" Mordy asked and I nodded.

"The energy blade in Roland's armor is almost purely Eridian tech in design and function so the damage it causes is nearly identical as well. While I suppose it's possible to create similar damage using other means I doubt anyone else on the planet could achieve it reliably." I explained honestly.

"I've never punched and Eridian robot before!" Brick said eagerly.

"And I don't suggest trying either unless you can hit their weak point on their necks. They are fast and since they use energy based weaponry they kill shields. Ranged combat is the best option but if you need to get within cavity search distance aim for the glowing bits under their head, it's an important energy channel and will cripple or outright destroy the bots if damaged." I said tapping my throat to give a demonstration of the weak spots location.

After ripping out the lifeforce from the bodies and ignoring the not great traits I stashed the gear they had away before we headed for the exit of the base. The moment we stepped out the door the chaos hit us immediately. There just outside this exit area Lancemen lay dead or dying while others fought against Seraphs in numbers I hadn't seen even we I opened the vault on Baal 3. -

It had to have been at least a dozen in just this one area and with my sharp vision I saw many more flying up in the sky over the area as they engaged the Lance in different locations nearby.

"Now this is what I'm talking about! Lets fucking go!" I yelled eagerly as I rushed out of the exit area and into the fight.

At first neither the Lance or the Seraphs paid us any attention as they focused on each other. But once Seraphs began to explode in blue flames with their weak points hit and Lancemen started to get headshot that changed REAL fast.-

A bloodthirsty grin covered my face as the two sides started ignoring each other to deal with us. Two Seraph slashers rushed across the ground to try and cut me down but I ducked the firsts slash and popped a bullet in it's weak spot for it's effort before ignoring the blue flames that roared over my shield from the explosion and swapped my guns damage type to shock. A purplish pink bolt of energy went over my shoulder almost faster than I could perceive to strike the second slasher in it's weak spot taking it down as well.-

I tossed Mordy a thumbs up for the assist as I wasted no time swapping my target to an exhausted heavy lancemen that was trying to catch his breath while the Seraphs were distracted. He hastily raised his gun as I charged him but I slid across the lightly snow covered dirt with my gun pointed at his face.

"Nothing personal mate." And pulled the trigger.

While i was doing that Brick chose to take my previous advice in the worse way humanly possible and ACTIVELY get right up to the Seraphs and blew their fucking heads off with punches to their weak points even as some of them damaged him since his shield was down after doing the exact thing I said not to. Bloodied or not the giant of a man laughed savagely as he ignored his injuries and moved on to the next thing he could find for his fist to strike. Getting injured during a fight was one thing, no one cared about it as it was expected to some degree. But fighting an enemy who didn't fucking care about getting injured or killed? That's a whole different experience.-

Mordy on the other hand was putting the Nailer to work back at the bases exit area taking out enemies nice and slowly. He didn't rush as he aimed and fired the gun claiming a life each time. Bloodwing was flying around the battlefield as a distraction since the bird couldn't really get through the armor of the Lance or damage the bots either. Still she was big enough and hit hard enough to easily distract the enemies while Mordy ended their lives. It was a great show of teamwork between man and bird as they covered the others weak point.-

Roland had his turret out while he kneeled on one leg behind it's projected shield and fired his assault rifle at any enemies he could or any that got too close. It was a pretty standard battlefield soldier tactic that more than a few lancemen seemed especially unhappy to see if the way they specifically seemed to have it out for him was any indication. Not that he seemed to care as whatever positive things he felt for the lance at some point in the past was gone and all he saw them as at this point was an enemy.-

Lil was both the most mysterious and graceful as she popped into and out of existence all throughout the battlefield leaving lead presents and grenades behind as she did. A bright yellow and orange glow accompanied her as the fire aspect of her powers blazed. If one were to look carefully as she appeared and dissappeared they'd be able to se the faintest outline of wings manifest behind her but never fully materialize. When I saw this later I would know it was a sign of her powers starting to reach their apex potential and were a a precursor to her being able to truly teleport.-

The battle was chaos as we all fought to kill our enemies and soon enough the last Seraph and Lancemen fell in this location leaving me dissatisfied.

"Barely more than a warm up." I said annoyed as I ripped out the lifeforce from the lance corpses.

"It was over too fast." Brick agreed.

"There are three other places we can find more so there's that." Lil said and I nodded.

"You know the drill by now, everything in the portal to be sorted later." I said as I took out my house and opened it up.

Ladon stuck his head out the portal, felt the cold, snorted and immediately backed into the portal again not interested in dealing with that at all. Not that I could blame him as a reptile that wasn't exactly built for the cold. A flaw I intended to fix sometime in the future if I could. Still my friends and i made quick work of the loot, including the robot pieces. I closed up my house again before putting it away and we headed for the first installation we needed to visit.
