Chapter 398 - Chapter 399: Options

(A.N: I have no excuse, but just a promise- I am going to make up for this one month long absence)

"I am sorry for overstepping my bounds, sir," he said, but Shisui could perceive a grudge in the voice of the ninja, which he provided little effort to hide,

like saying, 'So what if you are commander of the mission, I am Hyuga, a Hyuga from main branch.' The stuck-up noble persona, though he knew Shisui held similar status as him as a ninja from Uchiha, one of, if not the strongest clan of Konoha at the moment.

But it did little to stop him from forming a grudge over something simple. Shisui could only shake his head internally; even though he was younger among these two, seeing the behavior of the jonin, the only thing that came to his mind was nothing but 'childish.' But he suppressed those thoughts - there was no need to make this problem any bigger.

"No problem, this section is clear. Go and handle other areas," Shisui said before entering the medical room. The Hyuga didn't even give a proper answer before going toward the direction Shisui had indicated.

Shisui ignored all that and continued in the room toward the storage area at the end, only to find two young doctors holding each other tightly like a brother trying to protect his little sister from the world.

"Please don't kill her, she didn't do anything, she has not even killed a fly, please... just kill me," the boy said without even turning his head toward Shisui.

"I am not going to kill you. If I wanted to do that, you guys would have been dead by now," Shisui said, not particularly something to console a person in that state, but it did the job.

The boy found enough strength and willpower to look behind, only to find a handsome young boy looking toward him. But that handsome face did little to quell his fear, as the ninja was in Konoha uniform.

"Hic," a small cry came from behind.

"Hey, I already said I am not going to kill you, so don't worry and come out," Shisui said, making the most genuine face he could in that situation.

Even though believing words of the enemy was foolish, what other option did they have? So those two came out of their hiding place. The boy was still protecting the girl, hiding her behind his body.

"What are your names?" Shisui asked.

The boy hesitated before responding, "I'm Haruto, and this is my little sister, Emiko..."

Even though Shisui already knew about that, he asked to ease the tension and to get a reason to use his name; otherwise, Haruto may have gotten a heart attack when Shisui had suddenly called him by his name.

"So Haruto, I have a proposal for you. I was ordered to kill everyone present in this outpost, because this was what Iwa and Kumo did to our outpost. Now I can't go against orders from the higher-ups, can I?"

"But... but you just said you will... not kill us," Emiko said, still hiding behind Haruto.

"Yeah, and I don't go back on my words, so I have an offer for you guys," Shisui said, seeing a semblance of relief in the mixture of fear, confusion, and wariness in their eyes.

"What offer?" Haruto asked.

"Since I was asked to kill everyone here, you guys can't obviously go back, but if you come with me to Konoha, I will make sure you live and learn medical techniques that you will ever learn in Iwa," Shisui said.

"We... we are not going to betray our village," Haruto said.

"I am not asking you to. Also, there is nothing you can tell me that I don't know, so yeah, I don't want you to betray your village. All I want is for you to die for Iwa, and live a new life in Konoha. That or really die - the choice is yours, though make sure to think it through in 5 minutes. The minute our operation in the outpost is over, I will automatically choose one option," Shisui said and then took a seat in front of them.

After looking at his sister for some time, Haruto sighed then turned to Shisui, his eyes still having some semblance of doubts.

"Why us?" he asked, his voice nothing but a whisper.

"What?" Shisui asked like he was unable to hear it the first time.

"I asked why us - you clearly didn't save all of the medical ninja," Haruto asked, this time more loudly, enough that even someone outside may have listened to his question.

'Huh, presence of mind even in such situation, good,' Shisui thought, smiling internally, but now he had to explain why he was doing this for them. He could either come up with an excuse or come clean, and he chose the easier option.

Lies can make things easy for a small amount of time, but in the long run, they just complicate things, so it is always better to say truth whenever one can anyway.

"I will not lie, I can read minds using these," Shisui said, pointing towards his eyes which started glowing red with three tomoe rotating in them. Both of the medical nin stood captivated by the beauty of the eyes before coming back to their senses as Shisui continued.

"When I was about to kill all of you, I read your memories, only to find out you guys are as innocent as lambs - orphans who still never went for thievery, did hard work to give better medical care to poor, through sheer hard work reached where you are now.

When I came to find out all this, I decided to give you this option, as I already have the blood of innocents on my hands. I don't want to make it more red; our world already has a shortage of people like you," Shisui said.

"..."

"If we decide to go to Konoha, we will not become captives or criminals, right?" Emiko asked.

"I will make sure nothing like that happens," Shisui said.

"Then... please let us live. We are ready to come to Konoha," Haruto said as resolutely as he could muster in this situation. Shisui nodded and took them out of the medical room. By now the outpost was almost scanned twice by Konoha ninja, leaving none of the Iwa ninja alive except for those who were under Shisui's genjutsu.

All of them were asked to wait in a room for further instruction, as Shisui finally reached the top floor.

"They?"

"They are coming with us," Shisui said. Yuuto was smart enough to not question the orders of the commander.

"Commander, all of the Iwa ninja are dead except for... you know," he said, changing the topic altogether, bringing it to the question present in everyone's mind.

These ninja fought alongside them, taking jutsu's head-on to protect some of them present there. It was difficult to kill them now when they had completed their role - almost too ruthless for them... almost.

"You two go to the entrance. Oni1, take them there," Shisui said, sending away the children first, then turned to the ninja present there, "since they fought with us...
