At this moment, although it was early morning, the streets of Konoha were unnaturally empty.
Not a soul in sight.
Not even a stray dog wandered the silent lane. It felt as though this part of the village had been severed from the world itself.
Uchiha Yun narrowed his eyes and scanned his surroundings. This wasn't just suspicious—it was familiar. This method of isolating an area reminded him of certain barrier techniques used by the Root division for secret operations. The way the world fell unnaturally quiet… It could only be a suppressive barrier.
So Danzo had finally lost patience.
If Itachi hadn't reported back after their wilderness survival exam, it made sense. Danzo must have decided that Yun was too dangerous to leave unchecked.
Yun smiled coldly.
Then this was the perfect stage.
"You're not Anbu." he said aloud, eyes locked onto the two masked figures blocking their path. "The Hokage's Anbu masks are a different make entirely. If you can't give me a valid reason for your presence in the next few seconds, I'll assume you're enemy ninja who've infiltrated the village."
As he spoke, Yun casually drew a kunai from his pouch. Beside him, Izumi flinched slightly but quickly steeled her resolve.
"Wait right here." Yun said softly. "Your brother's just going to squash a few rats. This won't take long."
Izumi bit her lip and nodded, slowly retreating several steps away. She may have only been a student at the Academy, but even she could tell—these weren't simple school teachers in disguise. These two radiated killing intent. There was blood on their hands. Real blood.
She took a deep breath and lowered into a defensive stance, clutching her kunai tightly.
A puff of smoke beside them revealed the disappearance of a disguised surveillance animal—a chakra-marked cat, likely from the barrier squad. It had served its purpose.
…
"You're not qualified to know our identities." the taller of the two masked ninja replied in a dull, mechanical voice. "Your only choice is to surrender and come with us. Resist, and we'll break every limb before dragging you away."
The second added in a deeper tone, "You're just a mouthy brat still attending the Academy. You think you're invincible because of your bloodline? Let's see how cocky you are when your arms snap."
But before either of them could move—
*Swish!*
The blur of motion was nearly imperceptible.
Yun struck first.
A vertical slash with his kunai, smooth as water cutting stone. The first attacker didn't even get to react before his armor was split open from shoulder to hip. Blood sprayed in an arc as he crumpled.
*Thud*
With one blow, the first Root operative was out.
"Wha—"
The second ninja flinched, his eyes widening in disbelief.
"How…" he gasped.
Yun stood calmly beside the body, not even a drop of blood on his clothes. His kunai twirled lazily in his hand.
"Jōnin are supporting cast. Chūnin are barely passable. Genin can destroy the world. What about me—still a student? Should I be a calamity then?"
He spoke casually, as if discussing the weather.
*Swish!*
The second ninja lunged, sword flashing from behind. "Arrogant little—!"
*Bang!*
His blade cut only air.
Yun had already moved.
He'd vanished again, leaving behind only the echo of movement.
The Root operative blinked and stumbled back, suddenly filled with dread.
What was that?
That movement—like the Body Flicker Technique, but crisper, faster. It reminded him of only one man.
Uchiha Shisui.
But even Shisui's Body Flicker Technique had a wind-up. This… this was instantaneous.
Yun reappeared casually, now holding the fallen enemy's sword. He balanced it experimentally.
"You're sweating." Yun said, pointing the blade at the trembling ninja. "Relax. You're not dead yet. You've just made a fatal miscalculation."
The Root agent braced, body tense.
Then he met Yun's gaze.
And instantly, he froze.
Those weren't ordinary Sharingan. Not even the standard three-tomoe. There was something else in them—something deeper, far more primal. The eyes didn't just see—they dissected.
"Seen enough?" Yun's voice came from behind him this time.
*Swish!*
A clean cut, impossibly fast.
*Pffft!*
The man's dominant arm fell to the ground, blood gushing from the gaping shoulder wound.
He screamed and collapsed, eyes wide with shock and disbelief.
How could a child have this kind of power?
More importantly, according to Root intelligence… Uchiha Yun hadn't even awakened his Sharingan!
Yun calmly stepped back to his original position.
"I suppose you just exposed yourself." he said coldly. "How did you know I had awakened the Sharingan… unless you were here for that exact reason?"
The man trembled and groaned before finally passing out from pain and blood loss.
Two elite Root operatives, defeated in under thirty seconds.
Yun exhaled slowly, but his eyes remained sharp. He could sense it.
A third presence.
He looked up.
More chakra signatures, now fully active. One of them had laid a trap—chakra threads, trip wires, and steel lines all laced across the path where Izumi stood.
She hadn't moved an inch, still holding her kunai, breathing heavily.
A new figure appeared atop a rooftop—female, masked, blade in hand.
"Uchiha Yun." she called down. "Resist, and your sister dies. One step, and these wires will slice her into ribbons. Plant the curse seal and come with us quietly."
Yun turned slowly. His expression was unreadable.
"Recycled tactics." he said with a sigh. "You people really need to update your scripts. Using family as leverage? Very uncreative."
The woman's hand twitched toward her blade.
*Swish!*
*Thud*
Her head hit the ground a moment later, body slumping lifelessly beside it.
The next thing she would see—if her severed consciousness lasted even a second—was the flicker of Flying Thunder God Technique.
A seal had long been placed behind Izumi. Yun didn't need to move through space—he'd already arrived before she was ever in danger.
He sheathed the enemy's sword and walked over to his sister, gently brushing her hair back.
"You okay?"
Izumi stared at the corpse, expression trembling. But her voice came out firm.
"As long as you're here, I'm not afraid."
Yun smiled faintly.
"Still want to be a ninja?" he asked quietly. "You're strong, Izumi, but this is the path we walk. Death like this? It will happen again. If you ever want out, say the word."
She was quiet, eyes thoughtful.
The two of them stood amid the fallen bodies as silence returned once more. The suppressive barrier still hadn't lifted.
*Tap. Tap. Tap.*
The sound of a cane on concrete echoed ominously.
From the edge of the barrier stepped an old man wrapped in bandages, one eye covered, a grotesque arm hidden beneath layers of cloth.
Behind him, several masked operatives emerged—more Root ninja, this time fully assembled.
"Uchiha Yun." said Shimura Danzo, his voice low and accusatory. "You've just killed three members of Konoha's Root Division. Do you understand the weight of your crime?"
Yun turned slowly to face him, eyes still gleaming crimson, his face devoid of fear.
