The next day at noon.
In the dining room of Petit Trianon Palace, Queen Mary put down her napkin and looked at her son sitting opposite her, seemingly offhandedly saying, "Dear, I heard the Tax Bureau proposed to collect the tithe on behalf of the church."
Joseph swallowed the nut pastry and nodded, "Indeed, mother."
Queen Mary smiled, "Well, I'm not trying to interfere with your decision, I just wanted to ask how you plan to handle this matter?"
Joseph looked around at the court officials and servants, and everyone immediately bowed and withdrew.
Only then did he say to his mother, "I was the one who asked Mr. Robespierre to propose the bill. To be honest, the tithe should have been taken over by the government long ago."
Queen Mary nodded, not directly persuading against it. Over the years, countless facts had shown her that when her thoughts conflicted with her son's, it was best to listen to him.
