In the wee hours, Shen Li went downstairs.
There was a very objective reason: she was hungry.
She had arrived in the morning and missed lunch and dinner altogether, so hungry that her stomach ached, leaving her no choice but to go downstairs in search of food.
"Just a moment, please, I'll stir-fry some dishes for you right away," the landlady said enthusiastically.
"Um, can I have a bucket of instant noodles..."
Before she could finish, the landlady had already tied on her apron and gone into the kitchen.
"You can wait in the dining room, it'll be ready soon."

Shen Li watched silently and did not stop her.
The dining room was to the left of the lobby. Though it was just as small and pitiful, it had been cleaned from inside out in preparation for the arrival of the film crew.
The plain tablecloths and chair covers, carrying a rustic appeal, complemented the beauty of the small town.
"Please have some water first," the owner brought over some tea.
