As Gemtechs and PixelPioneers Studio reached a cooperation agreement to jointly develop "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim," the related publicity campaign was launched early. Games of this scale, from the development of the project to completion, do not disconnect from publicity.
When there is no news about the game, no matter how large-scale it is, it might not gain popularity. However, if there is a bit of buzz, at least the players know that a game is in development.
At the same time, when game development reaches a certain milestone, some information about the game will be released accordingly, such as a press conference or a gameplay trial video, to build players' expectations. Of course, collecting feedback from players is also one of its main purposes.
After playing a newly launched PVE map from "Resident Evil Resistance," Duncan quit the game and was ready to watch anime. He noticed people in the chat group were discussing something.
"What are you talking about? Are there any new games?" Duncan asked, a bit strangely.
"PixelPioneers Studio's new project, 'The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim,' has been announced. The game will be jointly developed with Mercury Studio, and PixelPioneers Studio is the leading developer," someone in the group responded upon noticing his question.
The new project has been announced!? Hearing this news, Duncan's eyes lit up. With the recent release of "Resident Evil Resistance," he has become a fan of PixelPioneers Studio.
He had to admit that PixelPioneers Studio is generous. In his mind, several T1-level game companies tend to focus more on their reputations than their games, but PixelPioneers Studio is not one of them.
With excitement, Duncan immediately searched for "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim" on a search engine. He clicked to enter the website, where the introduction appeared as a lacquered black scroll, with the opening slowly illuminated by candlelight, revealing text and narration.
[The Second Era lasted 896 years, beginning with the death of the Reman dynasty at the hands of the Morag Tong, and ending with Tiber Septim's harnessing of the Numidium and bringing peace to Tamriel. Notable events of this Era include the assassination of Potentate Versidue-Shaie, followed by his son Savirien-Chorak and all his heirs, marking the end of the second Empire of Men and causing the Interregnum. This period was also marked by the Three Banners War between the Ebonheart Pact, Daggerfall Covenant, and the First Aldmeri Dominion over the Ruby Throne, during which the elven necromancer Mannimarco ruled the Empire, collaborating with the Daedric Prince Molag Bal, who wished to drag the mortal plane into his own realm of Oblivion, Coldharbour.
The Third Era was relatively short, lasting 433 years (this is the era in which the first four main Elder Scrolls games occur). It began when Tiber Septim united all of Tamriel under the banner of the Empire, marking the start of the Septim Dynasty. Since the beginning of the Third Empire of Men, numerous civil wars and revolts against the Empire's rule transpired. Notable events of the Third Era include the Nerevarine's victory over Dagoth Ur and Akulakhan, the second eruption of Red Mountain, and the assassination of Uriel Septim VII, which led to the Oblivion Crisis. Martin Septim's sacrifice during the Crisis marks the end of both the Septim bloodline and the Third Era.
The Fourth Era begins with the end of the Septim bloodline during the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It marks the rise of the Thalmor and the establishment of the Third Aldmeri Dominion, as well as the Great War with the Third Empire. The last known year of the Fourth Era is 4E 201, the year in which the Dragon Crisis occurred and the Last Dragonborn rose to combat the World Eater, Alduin.
The story begins in Skyrim...]
As the narration concluded, a large black dragon appeared before Duncan, along with a soldier, who could only be seen from behind, facing the dragon wielding a sword and shield. The scroll then slowly closed, and the name of the game, "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim," appeared.
There were no special effects, no videos, and no finished games—only a plot introduction similar to the background. If this were an ordinary game, Duncan would likely feel confused and subsequently lose interest.
But this is a game from PixelPioneers Studio, and the entire website's presentation is very grand. The special effects during the scroll opening, including the narration and background music, were accompanied by flame effects on the scroll as the narration described the plot.
Coupled with his expectations of PixelPioneers Studio, Duncan felt a rush of excitement and subconsciously sensed that the game's worldview was almost overflowing. Whenever Duncan encountered games from PixelPioneers Studio, he anticipated an epic story—this was his first impression.
Refreshing the website again, he carefully re-read the narration of the story and took screenshots, preparing to enter the game community or game forum to discuss the new game with like-minded players.
He then began to search for related information, eager to uncover more details about the game. Even if not much information had been released yet, he had to admit that he wanted to play this game immediately.
"Today's PixelPioneers Studio should not be short on funds, and with their collaboration with Gemtechs, the development progress should be impressive. Maybe we can see this game before the exams." With this information, Duncan's face beamed with smiles.
Until he saw John's account.
"I am looking forward to our next stop in Paris. Additionally, it seems everyone is quite interested in our new game. What we can tell you is that 'The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim' is currently making considerable progress in art material development." A short message accompanied a photo of John and Luna, showing an array of sumptuous food and tourist attractions.
??? If you say so, but why do I feel a little unconvinced?
In the lobby of a hotel in Denmark, Evelien and the team are selecting relevant art photo materials. John differentiates between these items; during the day, they focus on travel and scenery, while at night, they gather to discuss the requirements for art materials.
It may seem lazy, but it's not. They are hard at work on the game.
