Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Awaken (rewritten)

It was still dark, yet the sensations changed.

It felt cold and wet, and I felt as if I was buried. I reached out and began to move whatever was surrounding me.

The more I dug the more my hands stung, and the stuff was soaking my clothes completely.

Finally I managed to dig enough until light began to peak through, I had reached the surface.

I pulled myself up and breathed in fresh air, I was free.

Looking around I could see I was in a forest in the winter time, roughly near evening, and I had been buried under the snow.

I was wearing the same uniform that students of Melior Academy wore. It was comprised of a red jacket over a white dress shirt with a gold tie. It had khaki pants and a brown belt.

It was in bad condition though, soaked through by water from melted snow, and riddled with smudges and tears from the elements.

Only one character would be out in the elements in the forest near the school, Alastor Alawenson Von Ragnar.

A minor villain from the story who was disowned by his family, the Von Ragnar, lost connection to his flame element. Eventually he perishes in the cold.

That psychopath of an Author dropped him right after the character died, giving him no chance to avoid losing his status and power.

Looking again his "menu" screen was hardly able to be called that, no logout button, and settings were greyed out, he could only resume.

He even had two weeks before winter break ended so he couldn't run to the school to avoid the elements.

'That guy cursed me yet I did nothing to him!'

I thought over all our interactions, sure he occasionally got a whirly or a beating, but we never tried to really hurt him…except that one time with the hose.

I snickered to myself for a bit then remembered where I was.

'Alright what is the first step to making a fire again?'

Rubbing my hands together I started looking for sticks when a message popped up.

[Hello User, would you like access to the System?]

[Yes] [No]

I stared for a while, this felt….too easy.

I was never the sharpest tool in the shed when I went to school, but even I knew that being dropped in a cursed death scenario never yielded an easy solution.

Yet right before my eyes floating text claimed I would have access the [System].

The very same boon that allowed the protagonist of "Tales of the final lightbringer" to rise from the commoner nobody he was to the powerhouse that saved the world.

The very same boon that let him accrue enough allies to screw over Alastor and get him expelled, which led to my own situation.

Despite this I really had no other options, I was stuck in another world in a snowy environment with no shelter, this was a nearly guaranteed fail. Besides it was VR, maybe the "player" had to be given something or the guys back at nullmind would see something is up.

I sharply inhaled, then pressed [Yes].

[Thank you User, now initializing]

[10%....25%...50%...75%...90%...95%...99%]

I watched the loading screen rise until 99% then it stopped, buffering.

"Darn it, even in another world loading sucks!"

I waited at least 10 minutes until I finally saw it reach 100%

[Thank you for your patience User, welcome to the Revenge System]

I waited, but nothing happened.

'I guess it needs me to give a command'

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was abysmal, the good stuff was all sealed, and Alastor let his stats and paltry list of abilities get carried by his good bloodline. His natural stats were terrible, and his other affinities were not compatible with fire so naturally he never trained them.

If it wasn't for his family he would have been doomed to a life a weakness from the start, and now I had to pay for his foolishness.

I wasn't any better off thinking about that right now, I was still out in the cold.

"Quests"

[fetching Quest list]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Quests]

Make a campfire:

Gather the following- Sticks, Stones, large branches

Reward- Campfire

Failure- Death by hypothermia

Make some shelter:

Gather the following- large branches, leaves or animal hide

Reward- a small tent and sleeping bag

Failure- death by the elements

Bypass- find a cave

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These were the only two quests, and considering the fact that it was winter and I have no tools, the second would have to be bypassed. All the leaves were long gone and any animals would be able to outrun me.

I went on to gather the sticks and stones for quest one, then set out for a cave.

I walked for what felt like forever, freezing all the while, but I came upon what seemed like a small mountain.

I walked partially around before finding a good cave. Yeah there could be bears, but at least I would die quicker than hypothermia would allow.

I entered the cave, and dumped my sticks and stones near the entrance.

I willed the quest to be completed, just like the protagonist of the story did in his first quest.

It accepted the materials and I watched in awe as a campfire, much nicer than what my materials could have made.

I then saw a sleeping bag appear not too far from it.

"I guess the tent was specific to completing the second quest fully, but beggars can't be choosers." I said to noone in particular.

I sat down on the bedroll and made my final and most important command.

"System Store"

Such a thing didn't exist in this world for the mc, at least not initially, but in later arcs his system upgraded to allow him to use accrued "quest points" for items, skills, and more.

[Opening Store]

"Jackpot!" I exclaimed and watched the large window filled with goodies.

Everything from basic camping equipment to rare skills were right before me.

I looked at my point count and quickly lost that elation, a measly 5 points sat before me. 2 for each quest I completed and 1 extra for completing quest 2 by finding a cave.

Still, I found that winter clothes only cost 1 point, so I bought a set. I changed, and as the sun fell I went to sleep, wanting to wake up as soon as the sun has risen again.
