Raymond had a pretty good idea of what a normal academy life was supposed to be like.
Wake up at 7 a.m. Get ready, go to the hall with whatever class you had, go to the next hall, then lunch and two more classes and then the day was over at 4 p.m.
With each class being two hours. Raymond was supposed to wake up at 6 as well to get ready. But honestly class only started at 7 so was waking up at 6 really necessary?
The answer was yes, the academy grounds massive.
Since students weren't allowed to leave—except for certain holidays or for an activity. The academy was much more then just a place for learning.
There were malls, parks, lakes and even an entire mountain. The entire academy was basically a micro city consisting of several thousand students and the academy employees.
Everything in the academy cost points. Except for the dorms which were dependent on which class you were in.
Dorm renovations, gaming consoles, permissions to skip class and leave the academy grounds—everything could be bought with points.
With Raymond's now 7500 monthly points, he was almost a millionaire. Making more then most of the fourth years and maybe even some of the fifth years.
Compared to the tough days at the Grace mansion, he was living it up now!
Rayez who is a billionaire by the way refused to give Raymond or Ellen any pocket money. He also refused any of Raymond's requests for stuff like the newest phone model or even just a laptop.
After this first school day he was going to immediately hit the malls and buy anything he wanted!
Well actually, he had permission to skip class basically whenever he wanted...
No! He had to at least be there for the first day right? Make a good impression and all that.
But Raymond had forgotten one thing.
Waking up on time early was a foe even Raymond had yet to defeat.
How could he possibly get out of bed on time when his bed was just so damn comfortable!
Living in the best dorms available was a curse and a blessing all at the same time. Although it was mostly a blessing.
Opening his eyes once more after a quick five minute rest, he glanced at the clock on his bedside table.
[6:58:11 a.m]
He rubbed his eyes and looked at the time again.
[6:58:43 a.m]
Wasn't it 6:30 just now?
...
-ching you all about the sciences of mana."
Slowly opening the doors, Raymond crept in as quietly as he could.
Unfortunately, magic wasn't allowed on academy grounds unless given permission or when fighting.
Raymond mentally added it to his list to ask for permission to use magic later.
He could feel a few heads turn to him, but the teacher was writing on the whiteboard with her back towards him so it was fine.
Spotting Ellen alone near the back, he walked as quietly as he could and sat next to her.
"why didn't you wake me?" he furiously whispered, trying to not disrupt the class.
The class was nearly completely silent save for the occasional sounds of a page being flipped and the scratching of pencils and pens. Squinting to see the whiteboard, he saw a list of several books and some sort of mathematical formula.
Raymond stared at the list for a bit—committing it to memory before turning back to Ellen.
"You live on the floor above me, it was a hassle to go up and knock on your door. Plus you would probably take another few minutes just to get ready anyways."
Who could have thought that having an entire apartment floor all to yourself would ever have downsides?
Looking around the room, he spotted a few familiar faces—Thomas was situated in the middle of a bunch of others, Noelle was sitting at the front diligently paying attention to whatever the teacher was saying and Arthur was sitting quietly.
Raymond could scarcely believe the last one. Arthur was what most would call 'the class clown' unable to stay quiet for longer then five minutes.
The special class worked a bit differently compared to the other classes. The special class shared lessons with class A but they would also have a few unique lessons only for the special class students. That's why although Raymond, Noelle, Thomas and Ellen were special class students—they were currently taking the same class with class A students.
"Before I continue on about this class. I believe I need to address a glaring issue first. You. In the back, with the white hair." She set down her marker on the table with a loud thud.
Pointing her finger directly at Raymond, he could feel the pure malice she held towards him already.
"On the first day of the academy. You have the nerve, to arrive to my class late. Trying to hide, without even greeting me or giving me an apology. Never in my life have I ever been disrespected like this by a mere first-year student. You think just because you are in class A it makes you special?"
Raymond shrunk down slightly in his seat, he may have been late but how was it the most disrespectful thing he had ever done to her!
She tapped her watch, letting out a tsk. "Arriving to my class twenty-three minutes and forty seconds late. Being in the academy is a privilege only for the best of the best. Let me tell you, being in class A does not make you special. It only means you are slightly above the rest. Failure to keep up means you are merely just wasted potential."
Raymond could understand her anger but wasn't it too much? It was the first day anyways, she probably wouldn't teach much!
With her targeting, he felt like a fish in a barrel. A prime target to make an example out of.
Raymond was tempted to just walk out of the class already, he had permission to skip any class he wanted after all. But considering that this class 'Foundations of Mana Sciences' was pretty important, he wanted to at least stay for the whole duration.
"Now tell me, what makes you so special that you can arrive into my class late and act as if nothing has happened?" her eyes locked onto Raymond. She looked calm on the surface but everyone could feel the anger underneath.
"...I have a potential score of 180 something?"
She froze at that.
"Are you Raymond Vance?"
"...yes."
"Never mind, carry on then. I was only giving a brief explanation on our future lessons and a basic introductory of myself and the class."
With a light cough, she turned back towards the board and continued writing down from where she left off.
At least this was one benefit of his high potential score being revealed.
Meanwhile, everyone else in the room was nearly dumbstruck. She left you alone—just like that?!
Thomas made eye contact with him and briefly flashed a thumbs up at him. Raymond could hear several girls nearby him almost collapse.
"At least that's one benefit of it being revealed," sitting back up in his seat—he rest his head on the table with his arms as a cushion.
Ellen stared back at him with the most deadpan expression, "To think you managed to get the devil's instructor off your back. That's quite an accomplishment."
Camila Veradawn, a popular S-rank hero at one point—famous for her fiery personality. Now known as the devil's instructor at the academy due to how she would mercilessly berate her students and even her teaching assistants for the smallest of mistakes. Leading to the nickname of the devil's instructor—because many joked that she was the one who taught the devil.
Camila's ears twitched slightly. As an S-rank how could she not overhear the conversation between Raymond and Ellen? Hearing her own nickname of the devil's instructor made her want to reprimand them both.
But remembering how Raymond was Ellen's shadow, and remembering Raymond's current status in the academy right now made her grit her teeth even harder.
To think, a student like Raymond was practically given free rein within the academy all because of his talent. The academy had really gone in the dumps now.
Comparing her glory days of being a hero to her current status, she sometimes regretted working for the academy as a teacher.
Although she preferred the quiet and calm, she missed the days where people would shout her name in awe. The higher salary kept her at the academy but it had also turned her into a feared teacher.
Something she felt was absurd.
She already knew that she was feared by her students for her strict attitude but where did all these stories of her bullying her assistants and students come form?
She may have acted a bit rude, but unless she had been possessed by a secret alter ego. She had never screamed at or bullied anyone!
Sighing internally, she continued her writing on the whiteboard.
'Just three more years Camila, three more years and you can retire for the rest of your life as a multi-millionaire.'
...
Walking out of the class, Raymond stretched his own body for a bit. "I knew I shouldn't have come for the first day, they never actually teach anything on the first day."
Ellen looked like she was about to say something but paused, "Now that I think about it, do you think it would be possible for me to also get the same privileges as you? Being able to skip whenever sounds nice."
Raymond stared at her silently for a bit, "You...want to skip class? Ellen Grace wants to skip class? You're supposed to be super hard working! What happened!"
"I already know everything anyways!" she rebuked.
That's fair actually.
Regression with all your memories intact was a pretty useful thing, a shame Raymond never got to experience it.
Following the crowd, he grabbed his printed timetable out of his bag and checked the next lesson.
Basic Fighting Skills.
Fighting, on the first day. Raymond groaned out-loud. Although most classes didn't teach anything on the first day, he knew for a fact this one definitely would force them to do something.
After all, the no teaching on the first day only applied to theoretical classes indoors. Practical outdoor classes was a whole different story.
