Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Adaptive Form

The warehouse shook.

Green energy erupted from the Omnitrix.

Ben stood in the center of the room as the transformation took hold.

His body changed.

But this time, something was different.

It wasn't like his previous transformations.

There was no familiar sequence.

No alien form that Ben recognized.

Instead, the Omnitrix seemed to be creating something entirely new.

His body became taller.

His skin darkened into a sleek, metallic-black surface.

Thin green lines appeared across his arms, chest, and legs.

His eyes glowed bright green.

The Omnitrix remained embedded in his chest rather than his wrist.

Ben looked down.

"...What?"

Eclipse stepped backward.

For the first time, the mysterious man sounded genuinely surprised.

"That's impossible."

Ben raised one hand.

His fingers looked almost human.

Almost.

But beneath the surface, he could feel something completely different.

Energy.

Strength.

Speed.

Information.

Everything seemed connected.

Ben looked at Eclipse.

"Okay."

He clenched his fist.

"Whatever I am right now..."

A grin appeared on his face.

"...I like it."

Adaptive Combat Form

Ben took one step.

The floor cracked.

He stopped.

"Oops."

Eclipse raised his hand.

"Attack."

Dozens of machines opened fire.

Energy beams filled the warehouse.

Ben reacted without thinking.

His body moved.

One moment he was standing still.

The next—

He disappeared.

The beams struck the ground.

Ben reappeared behind one of the machines.

He touched it.

The machine immediately shut down.

Ben stared at his hand.

"What did I just do?"

Another machine attacked.

Ben raised his arm.

A green shield appeared.

The attack bounced away.

Ben looked at the shield.

"Okay."

Another machine fired.

The shield automatically moved.

It protected him before he even reacted.

Ben's eyes widened.

The form is predicting attacks.

He jumped.

His body accelerated.

He flew across the warehouse.

Not like Superman.

Not exactly.

He wasn't flying through physical strength alone.

His body was manipulating the energy around him.

Ben landed on the ceiling.

He looked down.

"That's new."

Eclipse stared at him.

"What are you?"

Ben smiled.

"That's what I'm trying to figure out."

The Battle

Eclipse pressed a button.

The floor opened.

A massive machine emerged.

It looked like a humanoid robot.

Its armor was thick.

Its hands were equipped with energy cannons.

Its head had a single red eye.

Ben looked at it.

"That looks unnecessarily dramatic."

The machine charged.

Ben raised his fists.

The machine punched.

Ben blocked.

The impact shook the building.

Ben's feet slid backward.

He looked at the robot.

"Okay."

He smiled.

"You're strong."

The robot attacked again.

Ben dodged.

He punched.

The robot barely moved.

Ben frowned.

"You're really strong."

The robot swung again.

Ben ducked.

He jumped.

His fist connected with the robot's chest.

BOOM!

The robot flew backward.

It crashed through three walls.

Ben stared.

"Okay."

He looked at his fist.

"That's also new."

Eclipse watched silently.

Ben suddenly noticed something.

The Omnitrix was displaying information inside his vision.

TARGET ANALYSIS

STRUCTURAL WEAKNESS IDENTIFIED

Ben looked at the robot.

A glowing point appeared on its chest.

Ben smiled.

"So that's your weak point."

The robot charged again.

Ben waited.

At the last second, he moved.

His fist struck the glowing point.

The robot froze.

Then—

It exploded.

Ben jumped away.

The machine collapsed.

Silence.

Ben looked at Eclipse.

"Your turn."

Eclipse

Eclipse remained calm.

"You have no idea what you've become."

Ben raised an eyebrow.

"Then explain it."

"You are an anomaly."

"That's not an explanation."

"You were never supposed to exist."

Ben's expression hardened.

"Careful."

Eclipse continued.

"The energy inside your body doesn't belong to this universe."

Ben froze.

For a moment, everything went silent.

"What did you say?"

Eclipse smiled.

"Now I have your attention."

Ben stepped forward.

"How do you know that?"

"Because we've been watching you."

"Who is 'we'?"

Eclipse didn't answer.

Ben's eyes narrowed.

"Dr. Voss?"

Silence.

"Who does he work for?"

Still nothing.

Ben raised his hand.

Green energy began forming around it.

"I'm running out of patience."

Eclipse laughed.

"You think you're powerful because you have an advanced alien device."

Ben's expression became cold.

"I don't think I'm powerful."

He took another step.

"I know I am."

Eclipse's smile disappeared.

"But you made one mistake."

Ben looked at the Omnitrix symbol glowing on his chest.

"You assumed the Omnitrix was the source of my power."

The green lines across Ben's body brightened.

"It isn't."

Ben smiled.

"It's just the tool I'm using to understand it."

The Dimensional Pulse

Eclipse suddenly activated a device.

A wave of energy spread through the warehouse.

Ben's body froze.

His vision distorted.

For a second, the entire world disappeared.

He saw something.

A vast darkness.

Countless stars.

Infinite dimensions.

Worlds.

Universes.

Possibilities.

Then—

He saw himself.

Not one Ben.

Thousands.

Millions.

Different versions.

Different lives.

Different choices.

One Ben was a scientist.

Another was a warrior.

Another wore armor.

Another stood beside superheroes.

Another ruled a strange alien civilization.

Another was completely different.

Then the vision vanished.

Ben fell to one knee.

"What..."

His breathing became heavy.

Eclipse looked at him.

"Now you understand."

Ben slowly stood.

"What was that?"

"A glimpse."

"Of what?"

"Your potential."

Ben stared at him.

Eclipse continued.

"You possess something more dangerous than the Omnitrix."

Ben looked at his hands.

"What's that?"

Eclipse answered quietly.

"Possibility."

The Limit

Ben felt something strange.

His new form was becoming unstable.

The green lines across his body flickered.

A warning appeared.

ADAPTIVE FORM STABILITY: 61%

Ben frowned.

"Stability?"

Another warning appeared.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION: HIGH

Ben realized the problem.

The form was powerful.

Too powerful.

It wasn't sustainable.

"Of course."

He had been so impressed by the abilities that he hadn't considered the energy cost.

The form was drawing energy from multiple systems at once.

His own body.

The Omnitrix.

The surrounding environment.

Even dimensional energy.

If he stayed transformed too long—

Something could go wrong.

Eclipse noticed.

"Your transformation is unstable."

Ben smiled.

"Thanks for the information."

"You can't control it."

"Not yet."

Ben raised his fist.

"But I will."

The Escape

Eclipse pressed another button.

The warehouse began collapsing.

Ben looked around.

"What are you doing?"

"This facility has served its purpose."

"You mean you're running."

Eclipse smiled.

"Call it strategic withdrawal."

Ben charged.

Eclipse activated a portal.

Ben reached him—

Too late.

Eclipse disappeared.

The portal closed.

Ben stopped.

"Damn it."

The warehouse began collapsing around him.

He looked toward the exits.

Then at the Omnitrix.

ADAPTIVE FORM STABILITY: 42%

"Time to go."

Ben transformed back.

The moment his normal body returned, he felt exhausted.

He dropped to one knee.

"That..."

He breathed heavily.

"...was not pleasant."

He looked at the destroyed machines.

Then at the place where Eclipse had disappeared.

"You got away."

Ben stood.

"But you left something behind."

The Data

Ben searched the warehouse.

Most of the systems had been destroyed.

But one terminal was still active.

He connected his portable computer.

The Omnitrix immediately recognized the interface.

Files appeared.

PROJECT ECLIPSE

PHASE TWO

SUBJECT A: BEN STUART

Ben froze.

His own name.

He opened the file.

Age: 17

Location: New York

Known abilities: Unknown

Primary technology: Omnitrix

Dimensional access: Confirmed

Threat level: Increasing

Ben's expression darkened.

Someone had been studying him in detail.

Then he saw another file.

SUBJECT B

The identity was hidden.

Ben tried to open it.

ACCESS DENIED.

He tried again.

Nothing.

The Omnitrix scanned the security system.

A message appeared.

SECURITY LEVEL: EXTREME

Ben smiled.

"You're challenging me?"

The Omnitrix began working.

One second.

Two.

Three.

The file opened.

Ben's eyes widened.

SUBJECT B: PETER PARKER

Ben stared at the screen.

"...Peter."

The Truth About Peter

Ben leaned against the terminal.

Everything suddenly made sense.

Peter's strange behavior.

His nervousness.

His reaction to the black device.

The messages he had probably received.

The reason Project Eclipse had monitored him.

Ben smiled slightly.

"So you're the second subject."

But another thought came immediately.

Why?

Peter hadn't shown any obvious abilities.

Not yet.

Ben knew the answer from the original MCU timeline.

Peter Parker.

Spider-Man.

But in this universe, things weren't necessarily happening exactly as he remembered.

Maybe Peter had already been bitten.

Maybe it hadn't happened yet.

Maybe something else had changed.

Ben closed the file.

He wasn't going to expose Peter.

If Peter wanted to tell him, he would.

But Ben now had a new problem.

Someone knew Peter was important.

And they were watching him.

Ben took the data drive.

"Okay."

He looked around the destroyed warehouse.

"Now I'm involved."

The Journey Home

Ben returned to his mansion after midnight.

Alfred was waiting.

The moment Ben entered, Alfred noticed something.

"You are injured."

Ben looked down.

A small cut was visible on his cheek.

"Nothing serious."

"You were gone considerably longer than expected."

"Things got complicated."

Alfred looked at him.

"Did you find the organization?"

"Yes."

"Who are they?"

Ben walked toward the living room.

"I don't know."

Alfred followed.

"But I met someone calling himself Eclipse."

"Did you confront him?"

"Yes."

"Result?"

"He escaped."

Alfred nodded.

"And your injuries?"

Ben smiled.

"Mostly from destroying his robots."

Alfred raised an eyebrow.

"Robots?"

"Very expensive robots."

"I see."

Ben sat down.

Then his expression became serious.

"They're monitoring Peter Parker."

Alfred paused.

"Your classmate?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"I don't know."

Ben looked at the data drive.

"But I'm going to find out."

Peter's Secret

The next morning, Ben arrived at school early.

He waited outside.

Peter eventually arrived.

Ben watched him carefully.

Peter looked tired.

He had a small bruise on his face.

Ben immediately noticed.

Peter stopped when he saw him.

"Hey."

"Hey."

Ben looked at the bruise.

"What happened?"

Peter touched his face.

"This?"

"Yeah."

"Bike accident."

Ben stared at him.

Peter smiled nervously.

"Long story."

Ben smiled.

"Sure."

Neither believed the other's explanation.

They stood silently.

Then Ben said,

"Peter."

"Yeah?"

"If you ever need help..."

Peter looked at him.

"...you can ask."

Peter seemed surprised.

"Why?"

Ben shrugged.

"Because you're my friend."

Peter smiled.

"Thanks."

Ben nodded.

Then Peter walked into the school.

Ben watched him disappear through the doors.

Friend.

It was strange.

Ben had known Peter for only a short time.

Yet he already felt protective of him.

Maybe because Ben knew what Peter's future could become.

Maybe because Peter reminded him that this wasn't just a fictional universe anymore.

These people were real.

Their lives were real.

Their choices mattered.

Ben wasn't going to treat them like characters in a movie.

A New Problem

Ben entered the classroom.

His Omnitrix suddenly vibrated.

He looked down.

A message appeared.

NEW SIGNAL DETECTED

Ben frowned.

Another message.

SOURCE: UNKNOWN

Then—

A location appeared.

Not New York.

Not Earth.

Ben stared.

The coordinates were impossible.

They pointed somewhere outside normal space.

Somewhere the Omnitrix had never scanned before.

Ben whispered,

"What is that?"

The coordinates changed.

A second message appeared.

DIMENSIONAL BREACH DETECTED

Ben's eyes widened.

Then the Omnitrix displayed something that made his blood run cold.

BREACH ORIGIN: EARTH

Ben looked around the classroom.

Everyone was talking normally.

Peter was sitting across the room.

The teacher entered.

Nobody noticed.

Nobody knew.

But somewhere in New York—

a dimensional breach had opened.

And whatever was coming through it—

was already here.

The First Step Toward the Marvel Universe

That evening, Ben stood on the roof of his mansion.

New York stretched before him.

He activated the Omnitrix.

The coordinates appeared again.

This time, Ben expanded them.

His eyes widened.

The breach wasn't simply in another location.

It was moving.

Toward Manhattan.

Ben looked toward the city.

"Okay."

He smiled.

"Let's see what you brought with you."

The Omnitrix began glowing.

The white ring around the green symbol pulsed.

ADAPTIVE SYSTEM: READY

Ben clenched his fist.

"Not yet."

He looked toward the city.

"First, I need to understand what I'm dealing with."

Behind him, a portal opened.

Lyra stepped through.

"You've detected something."

Ben nodded.

"Something big."

"How big?"

Ben looked at the coordinates.

Then at the night sky.

"Big enough that the Omnitrix doesn't know what it is."

Lyra's expression became serious.

"Then you should be careful."

Ben smiled.

"I will."

He stepped toward the portal.

"Tomorrow."

Lyra looked at him.

"Why tomorrow?"

Ben looked back.

"Because tonight..."

He smiled.

"...I have homework."

Lyra stared at him.

"You are concerned about homework?"

Ben shrugged.

"I'm still seventeen."

He walked through the portal.

The night remained quiet.

But high above New York—

something moved between the clouds.

Something that didn't belong there.

The Omnitrix detected it.

A warning appeared.

UNKNOWN ENTITY DETECTED

DISTANCE: 14.7 KILOMETERS

APPROACHING

And somewhere inside the darkness—

two glowing eyes opened.
