Lola refused to leave Max's side. She couldn't bring herself to do that even after James offered to look after him in her absence so she could go home to shower and eat.
"You need to rest. You've been taking care of him for the past 72 hours without sleep or food. He would be mad at you if he were here right now!" James squeezed her shoulder as she sat stiff in an armchair, holding Max's hand.
"I'm fine. You can go home if you are tired. If he's mad at me, he should stand up and yell at me. I've already gotten used to his egomanic tantrums. I am already willingly succumbing to his will. So why would he lie down here, looking so white, so frail… I… I… hate him for being like this!" Lola sniffed, swiping off tears from her cheeks.
