Nathan and Evelyn were sitting on a rock, overlooking the city from far away.
"You know…" Evelyn looked up. "When I lived there, I always accepted my fate that I would end up marrying someone to advance the family's position.
"But my talent allowed me to refuse that fate. I might be luckier than most people, but I worked hard instead of taking it for granted.
"At one point, I couldn't help but wonder what I was actually working hard for. Was it to avoid the arranged marriage?
"Maybe, but people would marry at some point in their lives. Living alone might be an option, but I knew I wasn't the kind of person who could do it. If not, I wouldn't even let Bella near me.
"Hence, I questioned myself again, why did I work hard? Do you know what my answer was back then?"
Nathan simply remained silent as Evelyn answered it herself.
"My answer was nothing. I couldn't find any reason to become stronger. To be able to escape my fate? Not really. It was not fate, but a natural order.
