Chapter 41 - Chapter Forty: Love On A String (잡힐 듯 잡히지 않는 사랑)

Lee Ji-seo's POV (Point of View)

I let out a sigh as I wrote down my answer on the last test for the day. When I got back from the nurse's office, I tried to avoid the stares that my classmates were giving me.

I'm sure they were either confused about my health or why I was wearing my sports joggers. We submitted our test papers, and Taemin turned to me, "How are you feeling now?"

I nodded my head, feeling too lazy to reply. Jaehyun walked through the class doors, and Taemin waved him over.

He was in a different class, so he normally comes to our class after school. "Yo, what's up?" He asked with a smile on his face.

"You're a bit giddy today. Was the test too easy for you?" Ha-ri teased. Jaehyun brushed his hair back, "Yes, it was. I bet I'll get an A on all my tests," he said proudly.

"If I were you, I wouldn't get too ahead of myself," I said with a chuckle. "Yeah, I bet he'll get a C on his tests," Taemin teased.

Ha-ri gasped, "Taemin! A C??!" She said dramatically. Jaehyun nodded his head, "You're right, Ha-ri. Thank you for standing up for me," he said, cleaning invisible tears.

"Yeah, Ha-ri's right. A C is too high. I bet you'll get a D," I quickly said, bursting his bubbles. Jaehyun gasped dramatically, then put his hand on his chest in feign hurt.

"Taemin has been a bad influence on you, Ji-seo," he cried out. We all burst into laughter at his reaction.

Dae walked up to our desk and gave Ha-ri a peck on the cheek. Jaehyun, Taemin, and I all grimaced at the interaction.

"I think this class should be called the 'Loverbird's class' instead of Class A. Everyone in here is either in a relationship or in a situationship. Don't you guys study in here?" Jaehyun complained, looking around at the loverbirds in the class. His eyes landed on Min-ho, who was sitting next to Arin, and he turned to us in shock.

"Long story," I said. "The only reason why you are in the class lower than us is because you don't study," Taemin stated, moving the conversation back to the class matter.

Class A is for students who are big-brained, while the classes below that are for those who are struggling to climb up to Class A. Jaehyun is in Class B, a class lower than Class A.

"It's surprising that you are even in Class A, Taemin. Did you get in here by luck?" I asked with a raised brow. Taemin turned to me sharply, slightly offended.

"I thought it was bad to judge a book by its cover, Ji-seo. Of course I'm in Class A, after all, I am lecturing you in Maths, aren't I?" Taemin asked with a raised brow. "Whatever." I rolled my eyes.

"But it's unfair. I mean, I have been studying to get into Class A, and Ji-seo is a transfer student, got in here easily. Like, how is that even possible?" Jaehyun whined.

Jeon Arin POV (Point Of View)

My ears perked up at Jaehyun's question, and that made me stand upright. 'He's right. Except for the fact that he hasn't been studying hard to get here, he is an idiot. But how did Ji-seo, who is a transfer student, get in here so easily? That's suspicious.'

I waited for a reply, but they all had a tense expression on their faces. 'Okay, now it's getting really suspicious. I really have to find out what they are hiding. But who's going to help me out, though? Chaeyoung is basically avoiding me. I'll ask her to get me details about this matter when she comes to her senses.' I said inwardly before turning to Min-ho.

"How was the test?" I said with a small smile. Min-ho looked at me and gave me a little nod, "It was okay. I'll be heading out first. Don't do anything stupid," he warned before getting up from his seat.

I stared at him in shock, "What do you mean?" I asked. "You were staring over and eavesdropping on their conversation, so I know you have something going on in your mind. All I can say is that you shouldn't do anything stupid," He said before walking out of the class, but not before stopping at Chaeyoung's seat and waving her goodbye and whispering, " Take care' to which she replied with a smile.

My eyebrow raised in shock, 'What was that? Oh, don't tell me she has eyes on him now. Is that why she's avoiding me? Because she can't bear to face me again?' I said inwardly in anger.

She noticed me staring and rolled her eyes before walking out of the classroom. "Is she doing this to get back at me for the slap? Unbelievable," I huffed.

I looked back at Ji-seo, who was chatting away with her friends, "Her smile is very irritating. I'll show you. Just you wait," I said with jealousy.

'But who's going to help me get some dirt on you? I guess I have to do everything myself, or... I could ask my dad for help. Yes, that's what I'm going to do. He won't deny helping his sweet daughter out,' I said inwardly. A burst of satisfaction exploded in my chest as I rushed out the door.

Ever since my parents got divorced and my dad got remarried, my mum wanted me to cut off contact with him, but what can I say, I'm a daddy's girl after all. Even though I don't like the fact that he got remarried and had other kids, he still showers me with love and affection, but I hate the fact that I am sharing him with his new kids. Especially my half-sister, Eunbi. I don't like sharing my things, but unfortunately, I have to tolerate it.

I ran to my locker and brought out my phone, and quickly sent a message to my dad.

Me:

Hey, Dad. Do you want to meet up for lunch today? It has been so long since we had a father-daughter time together.

I waited for his reply patiently, then my phone buzzed with a message.

Dad:

I don't think today will be convenient, my love. I have a lunch date with Eunbi and Jae-young, or do you want to come along with us? I'm sure they would be delighted to see their big sister.

Me:

Oh, no need for that. I just remembered that I have to study for tomorrow's test. Maybe we can have it another time? And tell the kids I said Hi.

Dad:

Okay then. Good luck with your test, and I will send Eunbi and Jae-young your greetings.

I clutched my phone in my hands tightly, tears filling my eyes. "Why do I have to share you with other people, Dad? Why can't things go my way?" I said in frustration. I took out my things from my locker in frustration and walked out of the school.
