ASHTON
Marcel's voice crackles through the phone, tight with a worry I've never heard from him before. "She hasn't eaten since yesterday, Ashton. She just sits in her mother's room, going through her things. Sometimes, I catch her staring at nothing."
My jaw tightens. "She found out about her brother?"
"Half-brother," Marcel corrects, like the distinction matters right now. "And yes. It's like the ground opened up under her all over again."
I press a hand to my eyes. I didn't even know Demi had a brother or even a sibling in this world. From my own personal experience, I can imagine the shock and pain of discovering a piece of your life you never knew.
"She needs you," Marcel presses. "You should come here."
My chest aches with how much I want to. I could be at the airport in ten minutes, at her door in two hours. "I love her, Marcel. You know that. I'd drop everything for her at the drop of a hat."
"Then drop everything."
