Chapter 17 - chapter 17

Sumi gestures for Erick to follow her to her room, and he trails behind her. As soon as they're out of sight, jesse gets out of the car and heads straight to Sumi's room without wasting time thinking. However, she doesn't enter. instead, she wants to know what's going on between Sumi and Erick but secretly, and how they suddenly became acquainted. Jesse knows Sumi is a clever girl who can spin a convincing excuse, and if she confronts her directly, she'll likely get a plausible answer that she won't be able to refute. Sumi is someone who plays games with her mind, and others often find her excuses believable.

The shrill ringtone pierced the air, shattering the tense silence. Jesse's heart skipped a beat as she hastily retreated little distance from Sumi's room side, her eyes darting towards the screen. Sumi's name glared back at her, and with a mix of trepidation and curiosity, she accepted the call.

"Hello ".. jesse respond.

" Hello ma'am, did you call me? "

" Oh, yeah." Jesse's expression turns serious as she suddenly recalls the reason for calling Sumi, and she immediately fires off questions. "I heard you left the hospital without permission. Why did you do that? Your wounds weren't fully healed, and you just up and left. What happened? Why did you do that? "

"I'm truly sorry for what I did. I know I shouldn't have left without permission, but I just can't stand hospitals. To me, being in a hospital feels like being stuck in a rut. I've never been one to spend time in hospitals, and it really doesn't suit me. If I had stayed one more day, I wouldn't have made it. That's why I left. I know my wound isn't fully healed, but I promise to take good care of myself."sumi replied, but her tone was laced with a calm seriousness that could disarm anyone.

Before responding, Jesse clears her throat, aware that sumi was lying, but she needs to convincingly play along. "Alright, when you're feeling better, you can come back to work," she says, trying to maintain a believable tone.

Sumi responds immediately, her tone laced with excitement and urgency, "Can't I join work tomorrow?"

"No, Sumi, I can't have you join work like this. Rest is crucial for you right now. When you're fully recovered, you can come back. I'm giving you a month's reprieve. Take care of yourself until then. When you feel completely healed, you can return."

Though Sumi wanted to return to work the very next day, she reluctantly agrees due to her boss's insistence and hangs up the phone.

otherside jesse waits outside the room, patiently enduring for almost half an hour, but neither of them emerges. She glances at her watch and then fixes her gaze on the door, her eyes filled with anticipation, waiting for them to come out.

After waiting for 15 minutes, both exit the room, and jesse quickly hides by taking the stairs down. However, they head down in the elevator. Jesse quickens her pace, descending the stairs, but within a minute or two, both disappear from view. she's left wondering which direction they took.

Meanwhile, Mark, who had been entangled in the suspected murder case of Andi for days, resumed his investigation by reviewing the locations of cameras along the route passing through the prison. Although he had already investigated the area around the crime scene, it yielded nothing. Andi's body was found two kilometers outside the prison, with no shops or houses nearby, just empty fields on both sides of the road. Finding it a challenging case, Mark brought Ricky and seam, along to assist him.

"With Andi's death, people should be rejoicing, but suddenly, the cry for justice and fairness for his has emerged among the masses. It's intriguing that Mister John decided to take on this case and offered us the job. Personally, I think whoever killed Andi did a commendable job; such individuals deserve punishment like this. As we say, life has its way of balancing things out, and sometimes what's meant to happen does, for the greater good."

seam wipes the sweat trickling down his face with his handkerchief in the scorching sun and walking behind Mark and Ricky, speaking as he goes. "Uffff, Who works in this heat? I'm craving a dip in ice right now. We've been walking on this road for 2 hours, and it's just getting hotter. But I have no idea where we're headed. And to top it off, there aren't even any houses along this route. (Sitting down in the middle of the road and he shouts) "Where are we going?"

Mark and Ricky look behind to see Seam sitting in the middle of the road, just a few meters away. Mark says with a smile, "There's a restaurant up ahead with air-conditioned comfort that'll chill you to the bone if you can make it a bit further. Otherwise, you can stay here, bye!" With that, both Mark and Ricky continue walking straight down the path, leaving Seam behind. Seam quickly jumps up and rushes to catch up to them.

After ordering their meal, Mark stood up and glanced around. He walked over to the receptionist, a man in his mid-to-late fifties with fully gray hair, yet still appearing youthful. The man was busy counting money at the desk. Mark cleared his throat to get his attention and asked, "Excuse me, sir. I have a question. Given that this restaurant is quite far from the main city, do you find the business runs smoothly, or do you struggle with a lack of customers?"

The man continues counting money without looking up and responds, "We're not offering any part-time jobs here."

Mark says with forcefully shaking his head, "No, no, no, I haven't come here for work. I just wanted to know if your shop is running well. That's all I wanted to know."

The man stops counting his money. Keeping his attention fixed on the cash, his head, which was lowered, slowly rises as he looks at Mark properly — as if he's watching a scene straight out of a crime thriller.

The old man picks up the knife placed in front of the receptionist's desk and, gesturing with it, speaks to Mark.

"Speak clearly—what do you want?

There's no need to beat around the bush or question me; I'm not that naive."

Mark immediately pulls out his ID card from his pocket, holds it up right in front of the man's eyes, looking him straight in the eye, and says,

"I'm an investigator, not a thief.

Please, when I ask you something, I expect a straight answer in return."

The Man hesitates, visibly unsettled. His confidence wavers.

He slowly sets the knife down on the table.

"(softly, with a hint of regret)

I'm sorry. Didn't mean to come off like that."

Mark doesn't beat around the bush and gets straight to the point." A murder recently took place just a few kilometers from your shop. As part of the investigation, we are checking every street corner to see if there are any CCTV cameras. From what I've seen, there appears to be a CCTV camera installed above your shop as well. If you're willing, I can check the footage."

"yes, yes, absolutely!" The man immediately agrees and is even ready to take Mark to the CCTV control room without hesitation.

Mark signals Ricky and Seam with his eyes to get up. Without wasting any time, both of them immediately stand and begin to follow Mark. The shop owner leads all three of them to the CCTV room.

Next Day,

Dezze drops Jesse off at her office and turns around to catch a glimpse of her. However, she's surprised to see Jesse walking into the office with Suji. Dezze's taken aback because it's been a while since she's had any contact with Suji, and vice versa. The sudden sight of them together leaves her surprised. The shock of seeing them together causes Dezze to slam on the brakes of her car.

She makes a U-turn and parks her car outside the jesse's office building again. Then, she gets out of the car in a hurry and rushes into the office.

Dezze bursts into the office without knocking, finding Jesse and Suji engrossed in conversation on the couch, both wearing smiles. However, as soon as they notice Dezze's arrival, they fall silent, looking surprised but also pleased. Jesse immediately gets up from the couch and walks towards Dezze, saying, "You're here! I thought you'd already left for your office. What a pleasant surprise! Look, Suji's here too after so long."

Crossing one leg over the other, suji settles in comfortably, picks up the coffee cup in front of her, and teases Dezze with a bright smile. "It seems Jesse's girlfriend didn't appreciate my visit. Look, she's not even smiling. It's been ages since she's seen her friend, at least say hi but no. instead, she's glaring at me with anger. ohh ho Oh, I'm getting scared just looking at her."

"I thought you'd died," Dezze says with a smile, sitting down on the couch next to Suji. Jesse also sit down awkwardly, unsure of the dynamics between Dezze and Suji after their prolonged silence. Dezze teases Suji with a grin, who sips her coffee, trying to suppress a smile. This irritates Dezze slightly, and she asks, "What's so funny? You're always busy flirting with others. Why the sudden amusement? You've forgotten about our old friendship, and now I see you with Jesse. Can I know what's brought you here suddenly?"

"Do you really want to know?" Suji says, looking away from Dezze and shifting her gaze to the left, in the direction where Jesse was sitting on the couch.

Before suji can say anything further, Jesse interrupts, "You guys, what's going on? I just called Suji over to talk. Can't we just have a conversation? Come on, Dezze, why are you getting so upset? She is your friend, after all."

As a detective, Dezze has a habit of scrutinizing every conversation, never taking things at face value. Wherever she goes and whomever she talks to, she always applies her detective instincts. She senses that something is off about the atmosphere and Suji's sudden appearance. With a mysterious gaze, Dezze gets up without saying much. "I'm leaving," she says to Jesse, glancing at Suji briefly without showing much reaction.

Jesse asks, "You've just arrived. What's the hurry?"

Dezze looks at her watch and replies, "I forgot I have a lot of work today. We'll catch up later. You focus on what you're doing, and I'll visit you and Suji later. I really have work to attend to."

Dezze nods and bids them farewell.

It was around 1 pm when someone knocked on the door. Erick was having lunch at that time. he wiped his hands and went to answer the door. To his surprise, Mark stood there, flanked by some police. "You're under arrest," Mark said.
