Ryu looked at Masato and asked, "Where is the programming team I asked you to hire?"
Masato pointed to the three-man team and said , "These three are the programmers we had hired from Fire Capital. They are the only fresh graduates we have in the entire country. I offered them a good package that they could not deny."
"Welcome to Hamura Industries. Up until now there has not been major advancement in technology, so therefore the need for programmers was very limited, but our company is going to change that."
The new recruits are not entirely convinced; they doubted the boy's ability due to his young age and small stature. Ryu understood their doubts and thought, 'Maybe I should show them what I meant.'
Ryu said, "We have the device, but now all we need are games to run on the device. I'll start programming some games right away. Let's begin with something simple."
With a determined look in his eyes, Ryu decided to prove himself by taking on a challenging project that would showcase his skills and potential. He knew that actions speak louder than words, especially in the competitive world of technology.
The new recruits frowned when Ryu said that they had been looked down upon, thinking his comment implied underestimation. They have been studying basic programming that exists in the ninja world and its limited electronics and computers for a few years. They did not expect that a kid would try to show off like this.
The room fell silent as Ryu began to demonstrate his programming skills on a central console, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he brought his ideas to life. Ryu had already decided which games to programme first. He chose the simple one without much graphics.
Ryu programmed the games live in front of a live audience. At the end of it all, the researchers and programmers were stunned. Ryu was programming a simple snake game in front of a live audience. His small hands were not a problem, and he was coding at the speed of a marathon.
Ryu said, "Okay, all done now."
The programmers were stunned. They could not programme on the spot like Ryu did. They must establish concepts and logic days before actual coding starts. But for them, Ryu was coding as if he already had everything planned out or someone planned it for him. The audience erupted into applause, amazed by Ryu's coding skills. The programmers realised they are either witnessing a true prodigy in action or a ploy is at work.
"Now let's play," Ryu said.
Ryu executed the programme and demonstrated it on a prototype game console wired to a regular TV screen. Ryu played the Snake game and said, "It's a simple game but a good timepass for kids. The length of the snake keeps increasing, and difficulty rises exponentially."
The audience, filled with astonishment, gazed at the screen in wonderment. They have never seen anything like this. Video games were nonexistent in this ninja world.
Ryu looked at the research team who made it possible by making the prototype console. "Want to try it out ?"
They all could not wait to try their hands on it and rushed to grab the console from Ryu.
The fastest one won and started playing it from the place Ryu left but soon caught its own tail and said, "Dammit."
"Your turn is over; give me that."
"Damn it."
Soon the game finds itself in the hands of its fourth player.
Ryu said, "We can increase the difficulty by making an impassable wall around the edge of the screen. All we need is to add a few lines of code and have both the options of a wall and an infinite looped screen."
One of the programmers said, "I must say the game is amazing, but are you sure you came up with it? No one can come up with a game like this on the spot. A concept of a game may be code…. I don't think so."
The room fell silent. Other than the programmers, no one questioned Ryu's intelligence now that he had demonstrated a few techs, all of which he had built himself. However, the new programmers were not buying it.
Ryu thought, 'Well… he is not wrong, as I am not the original creator. But in this world, I am its creator. I guess I need to do it again to make them believe in me.'
Ryu looked at the programming team and said, "Would you like another game?"
The programmer smiled and said, "I would love it."
Although they were convinced that Ryu would not be able to do it again, he was determined to prove them wrong.
'I will make something more complex and more fun but something compatible with this display. Tetris will do.' With this idea in mind, Ryu started developing the game of Tetris with enthusiasm.
After an hour or so, Ryu was done with the programme.
"Okay, all done," Ryu said.
Ryu started playing the game, and everyone was even more amazed by the classic gameplay. Many were even doing their own commentary as to where to place the block.
The programmers were left speechless at that moment, amazed by Ryu's programming skills and creativity. Ryu handed the game to the staff and said, "You now have the code for two games. When you actually launch the Game Boy, at least have 5 games in total on the device."
Ryu looked at Masato and said, "Hire more programmers and have them work as a team."
He then looked at the programmers he currently had and said, "Use your creativity for everything you create. Let's make gaming for our device something that generations of people will remember and love."
As people were fighting over their turn to play the games, Ryu said, "Use these games and references and try to come up with more games for this device. Come to me if you are having difficulties."
The programmers nodded. They were scared shitless of the programming skills of Ryu and did not think of challenging or doubting him ever again.
The other staff had previously encountered the challenges that the new programmers were now facing. They knew that Ryu's vision was not just about creating games but about pushing the boundaries of what was possible in this world. They have witnessed it with solar paint and ultrasound machines and now with the Game Boy handheld and its fun games Ryu programmed in front of them.
Ryu then turned to Masato and handed him a set of notes. "I want you to focus on creating a powerful processor and smaller communication sets with a size similar to Game Boy. For smaller microprocessors, the fabrication of semiconductors at the highest precision is key, and for smaller devices, smaller low-power circuit boards are key. These notes will be helpful for you. Hire more people for all teams and go all in on research and development. There is no need to worry about the funds; we will milk the rich for now and channel that money into developing technology to new heights."
Masato's eyes widened as he took the notes, his mind already racing with the possibilities. "This could change everything," he muttered. "The applications are endless."
Ryu nodded. "Exactly. And to take it a step further, I want you to start manufacturing the Game Boy with attachable game cartridges. This way, games can be sold separately, and users can add new games to their consoles for many years to come. Also, make sure to create a bigger device for the same games, a device that is compatible with older generations of TV sets and also with the new-generation ones we're going to create. And let's not forget multiplayer games. where kids can compete against each other."
The team began to buzz with excitement as their imaginations ran wild with the possibilities. The programming team and research team were noting down everything Ryu was saying for later implementations, and his secretary was also noting them for official minutes of the meeting.
Ryu continued, "We'll also need to improve our skills in wireless communications. A handheld device with wireless connectivity could allow for multiplayer gaming on the go and also multiplayer games. I have a few in mind, but let's give our new programmers time to shine."
Ryu grinned. "With enough programming skills and advancements in wireless communications, we'll be able to create new-age communication devices for the masses."
The room erupted in applause, the team's enthusiasm palpable. Ryu, as the visionary leader, guided his team towards a future full of endless possibilities.
Finally, Ryu announced, "And as a token of appreciation for all your hard work, I'm declaring a bonus for everyone based on the sales of the solar paint. Let's keep pushing the boundaries and making the impossible possible."
With that, the meeting came to a close, and the team dispersed, each member fuelled by Ryu's words and ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
