Chapter 11 - Code Name: Anchovey

This chapter takes place during the first mission with Byung-Ho and Agent Cross

Beep*

"Hello? Hey? Can anyone hear me right now?"

Beep*

Agent Anchovy sat in front of a few large computer screens while tapping on his keyboard aggressively.

"Why is no one answering? Is the system down..?"

He pulled his glasses up and scooted his chair closer towards his desk. Anchovy's eyes quickly skimmed across all the computer screens as he nervously nibbled on his thumb.

"Check, one.. two..."

Silence

He sighed and crossed his legs while tying his hair up.

Looks like I'm going to have to get to work..

Agent Anchovy stretched his fingers before taking in a deep breath. His eyes locked on the computer screen, and he began to type on his keyboard rapidly. His gaze slowly trailed from one side of the screen to the other. Eventually, he began to stand as his fingers continued to type rapidly.

Radio's down.. camera's down... what else?

He paused and sat back down silently.

There's another party at the scene? Who...

Agent Anchovy slowly massaged his forehead to think so a solution to the problem.

"Mhm... yeah.. that seems good."

He let out a mischievous laugh and went right back to work. His hands moved quickly as he went from one keyboard to another. He was entirely focused on the task at hand.

"Power back on.. connection..."

He mumbled to himself as he began to debug all the services one by one.

"Is back!"

He stood back up and brought the mic closer to his mouth.

Beep

"Hello?"

Silence

He tapped on the microphone aggressively and glanced at the screen again.

"Oh..."

He pressed a button on the screen and tapped on the microphone again.

"Hello?"

...

"Agent Phony? Agent Cross? Can you hear me? This is Anchovey."

...

"Hello-"

"I'm in the middle of something right now! What do you want?"

Agent Anchovy could hear Byung-Ho's voice through his speaker systems.

"Yes? pant... Hello? Agent Cross... here."

He then heard Agent Cross' voice.. in a more exhausted tone.

Agent Anchovy sighed in relief and leaned back in his chair.

"Oh! Great, we're back~"

He sat back up in his chair and began to hack back into the security systems.

Agent Phony: "Enough talking! When are you sending back-up? Don't you know how dire the situation is?"

Agent Anchovy hummed to himself as he continued to tap on his keyboard relentlessly.

"I'm in the midst of doing that.. hm?"

He glanced at a different monitor and noticed that he had lost connection again.

"Huuh?"

He rolled around in his chair as he searched around his room for his cellphone. After he spotted it on the floor, he picked it up and immediately dialed a number.

Ring... ring.... beep!

"Anchovy here.. burner phone. Uh, send in the backup and stuff.. things got a little out of hand. There's a third party the wedding. Men in black. I'll save the file so we can go over the details later."

He hung up the phone and scooted back to his computer. He glanced at his monitors for a second before he slammed his fist down on the keyboard. Suddenly, everything rebooted.

Yay~ it works every time.

He clears his throat and taps on the microphone once again.

"Agent Phony? Agent Cross?"

He shook the microphone aggressively.

Beep*

"Agent Phony? Agent Cross??"

He repeated in agitation.

...

He didn't hear anything in response but continued anyway.

"I need you two to listen up.. am I back? Agent Triple is heading in now. Can you hear me?"

Agent Phony: "About time you did something!"

...

"I take that back! He's not the type someone can reason with-

"Actually, anyone would be better than this guy right now..."

Agent Anchovy cleared his throat and leaned back into the microphone.

"Well, we have managed to power some of the cameras back on. We have noticed that most of the-

He glanced at the computer screen and grinned.

ooh~ it looks like Lin is in a bit of a pickle right now."

He watches Agent Phony immediately turn around and get hit in the head through the security cameras.

"Oh.. have fun!"

He switched the microphone off and leans back in his chair while kicking his legs up onto the desk.

"Mhmm~ another good day's work!"

Agent Anchovy closes his eyes while humming and slowly drifts off to sleep.

Hours later...

"Mmph.."

He slowly opens his eyes and wipes off his drool as he sits up in his chair.

"What time is it..."

His eyes came across the time on his computer and he laughs anxiously.

"Oh my..."

He sighs and starts to rolls around in his chair again.

...

"Don't wanna.. don't wanna see boss... mmhmmmm..."

After a few minutes of contemplation, Agent Anchovy finally decided that it was time to report back to the Chief before he grew any more angry with him than he already is.

He slowly rolled himself out of the computer room and down the silent hallways of the Rapid1 building. The agents were all sneaking glances at Anchovy as he strolled down in his squeaky chair.

Hm?

He was nearly at the meeting room door when he saw Byung-Ho approaching the room from a distance. Anchovy blinked slowly before shrugging and scooting into the meeting room with a mischievous smile.

Agent Anchovy completely ignored the Chief as he waited by the door quietly. His expression full of absolute focus and precision. 1...2... and...

SLAM

Anchovy slammed the door into Byung-Ho's face and crept out from behind the door. He glanced down at Byung-Ho laying on the ground and grinned as the agent began to curse him out. However. Anchovy only saw this as an opportunity to get out of having to deal with the Chief, so he slowly walked away when he had the chance.

Another hour passes and Anchovy suddenly receives an email from the Chief.

[Come see me now.]

The message was short and terse, but that only showed how angry the Chief was. Now, Anchovy had no choice but to go see the stingy old man.

Hehe... I guess this is the end of the road for me.

Like always, Anchovy rolled his desk chair down the hallway and into the meeting room.

Clack

His eyes met with The Chief and he immediately smiled while scooting closer.

"Hello~"

...

The Chief did not look happy at all. If anything, he looked like he was going to murder Anchovy with that glare of his.

Oh my... boss looks excited to see me~ as always!

He smiled wider and scooted his chair against the meeting table.

"Good afternoon boss~"

He tapped his finger against the table.

"I'm here to make my report.. actually, maybe I'll just send it over via email.. later..."

The Chief's glare grew firm and he picks up a random pin that was laying around.

"Agent Anchovy. I don't have time to be playing your games... and how many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me boss??"

Anchovey stood up and sat on the table instead.

"Hahh.. you're aways so uptight.. boss."

SWOOSH

The pen flew right past Anchovey's head, scraping his cheek in the process.

"I've been too lenient on you lately.. when will you learn how to behave properly? Hm?"

The Chief walked around the table and towards his desk.

"Did you save the video footage? There was a third-party, correct?"

Agent Anchovy softly touched his cheek and snickered.

"Yep! A group of men in black. They don't seem like they're from an organization like ours~ I assume that they're from a criminal group."

He turned to look at The Chief and crossed his legs.

"I'll send the video footage over, no problem~"

The Chief let out a loud sigh and rolled up a few pieces of paper to whack Anchovy off the table.

SLAM

Anchovy yelped and fell to the ground helplessly.

...

"Boss... you're so mean."

He said as he slowly passed out.

Silence

"Did I go overboard?"

The Chief crouched down to look at Anchovy's body.

"..."

He stood up and quickly slammed the meeting room door open.

"Are the medics still here?!"

The agents who hung around in the hallways glanced at the Chief in shock.

"Uh- yeah.. they should still be here-?"

The Chief immediately dragged Anchovy's body out the room by the legs

"Quick, help me take this guy to the infirmary room! We can't afford to have him out for even a day!"

The agents slowly turned to look at each other before reluctantly helping the Chief drag Anchovy's body to the infirmary. Not only was this the first time the agents saw The Chief acting like this, but it was also the first time they saw him genuinely caring for someone... even if it was for some backhanded reason like work.

[In the Infirmary Room]

Beep..beep...beep...

Anchovy slowly opened his eyes to the sound of a medical machine. He glanced around as he sat up. His head felt like it was going to explode.

"Huuh? Chief?"

The Chief stood by Anchovey's bed with a stern glare.

"Awake? Good. Take 2 days off."

He then suddenly turned around and left the room with a huff.

"Huuuh?"

Anchovey could only tilt his head in confusion.

The boss is giving me days off?

...

Anchovey suddenly bursted out in laughter as he kicked his feet.

Guilt tripping really does work against the boss.. Hah.. that was easy.
