Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Dungeon

'What is going on?' Looking around, all I could see were rocks and shiny crystals of many colors. 'Just a second ago I was in complete darkness; now I'm in a cave of some sort.' I look at my body and see I am some kind of humanoid entity made of darkness. The darkness moved around my body like waves, slowly but satisfyingly. My nails were sharp, yet also moving like waves, but I still needed to get a good look at myself, so I started 'walking' over to a blue crystal to see my reflection. 'What a surprise.' Though my body had legs and I intended on walking, instead my body levitated a couple of inches in the air, and by leaning slightly forward, I began flying towards a big blue crystal.

Arriving at the crystal, my feet slowly touched the ground, and I looked at my reflection. 'It's as I expected.' I have no face, just two white dots that are my eyes.

Squeak!

I look down to see rats running around, squeaking and hissing. Though I don't remember much about my old self, I imagine I would be panicking, but right now, instead, I feel absolutely nothing. I squat to get a better look at the rats and notice they are entirely unaware of my presence.

I reach my hand out to grab a rat, but my hand goes straight through it. 'Why can't I grab it?' With that thought alone, my intangible hands became tangible, and I picked up a rat by its neck. 'I see... so that's how it works.' I scrutinized its appearance. 'Surprisingly, it's just a regular rat with no abnormal features.' The rat continued to hiss loudly within my grasp. So, with little to no effort, I squeezed its neck and watched as it twisted its body, trying to escape for air, but to no avail. I watched as the light left the little creature's eyes. 'Such a fragile creature-' My thoughts were interrupted when I saw a white energy leaving the rat's body. 'Is that a soul?' Following my question came a noise in my head.

[Would You Like To Convert The Soul Into System Points?]

'...What is this?' I stared at the words in front of me for some time before deciding. 'Convert the soul into points.' After making my decision, another screen suddenly appeared in front of me.

I looked at the screen for only a minute and understood everything that was displayed. 'For some odd reason, I feel very familiar with this.' But even so, I double-checked my stats just to make sure I saw it correctly. 'I am terribly weak.'

Squeak! Hiss! Squeak!

••••••

Nullis looked down to see the rats causing an uproar over one of their own dying, but Nullis couldn't care less about their grieving. 'This is quite annoying...' Maybe it was because he spent an ungodly amount of time in pure darkness and silence, but Nullis was highly annoyed at how noisy the rats were being. Nullis picked up two rats by their necks and stared at them in silence, which only made the rest squeak and hiss even louder.

'Enough of this.' Nullis threw the two rats at the stone wall with all his force. 'You puny creatures are being a nuisance. It is only a given that you all die.' It was almost like a switch flipped inside Nullis's head. He began choking, throwing, stomping, and kicking the rats. The rats were extremely weak, so it only took one hit of his full strength to kill them, but no matter how many he killed, their numbers never seemed to decrease. 'No matter, I will continue until-'

[Would You Like To Convert The Souls Into Points And Unlock The System Shop?]

Nullis stopped the killing when he heard the system. 'A shop? Convert the souls into points.' Nullis's interest was piqued at the mention of a shop. 'Show me the system shop.'

Nullis locked eyes with a rat he was currently holding. 'Inferno is the most useful option at the moment, but it seems I lack points.' With all his strength, Nullis squeezed the rat's neck and threw it on the ground, killing it upon impact. He continued his killing spree, stomping and throwing stones at their heads, but no matter how many he killed, it looked as if their numbers weren't dwindling at all. 'No matter, I will just keep killing all of you.' Nullis was not discouraged, and he continued without much of a thought.

This bloodbath continued for minutes until Nullis heard the sound of the system.

[Would You Like To Convert All Accumulated Souls Into System Points?]

Nullis's eyes glowed when hearing the system. 'Yes.'

[System Points: 368]

Seeing the amount he had, Nullis immediately knew the first thing he was going to purchase. 'Confirm purchase {Inferno-lvl1}.'

[You Have Confirmed Purchase Of The Skill {Inferno-lvl1}!]

[Active Skills: {Inferno}]

Nullis stood still, no longer attacking the rats, but instead thought of a better solution. 'Instead of being in this never-ending loop, I should look for the source of these rats.' Nullis's eyes wandered along the dungeon, following the thick line of rats leading further into the dungeon. 'There seem to be burn marks and scratches in that area.'

After a short walk, he saw an open space, and inside of it were rats biting on a corpse, so Nullis bent down to get a closer look. 'He has a purple robe and a long hat. Was he some kind of sorcerer?' While Nullis was observing the dead body, his own body started changing. The darkness itself seemed to be flowing into his body, and a couple of seconds later, his body became human-like. Out of curiosity, Nullis once more looked at the crystals to see his appearance.

He was extremely pale, with black fingertips and nails, black eyes with white pupils, black lines that started from the eyes down to his jawline and spread all over his body, sharp pointy ears, a black crystal in the middle of his chest, and long wavy inky black hair down to his lower back that covered a bit of his face. Nullis felt his face out of curiosity; he had slightly sunken cheeks and a sharp jawline. 'This is a more human appearance, but why?' Instead of focusing on his appearance, Nullis decided to focus back on the rats.

'Hmm, this shall do.' Nullis took the purple robe off the dead body and wore it himself. He slowly reached out his hand and felt his palm and fingertips get hot. "Inferno." His deep voice echoed in the dungeon, and a ball of fire formed in his hand and quickly released onto the pile of rats. Nullis stood up and backed away, watching as the rats burned and the fire spread because they all stayed close together. But instead of continuing to watch, Nullis started levitating, moving deeper into the dungeon while letting the rats burn.

'I can hear grunts and yells coming from deep in the dungeon. It sparked curiosity in me. And conveniently enough, even in the "human" form, my body still levitated naturally.' Nullis kept following the sound of what seemed to be a fight. 'That dead body must've been part of some group.'
