Ambrose was struggling. Every time he opened his eyes, he saw those eyes haunting his dreams. He saw his mother's hand hit the floor in front of him. The smell of copper assaulted his nostrils.
He was constantly being thrown back into that night. Odette was doing what she could to bring him back, soothe his broken heart and heal his fractured mind.
But even with her feeding from his pain, she couldn't seem to take it all way. And that cracked something in her. That there was some pain she couldn't help.
Ash felt sorry for the man. His son-in-law was a mess, and Ash knew his presence was only making it worse. Making it harder on Ambrose. Ash made himself scares. Remembering pain of his own. This place held memories that weren't to break even the strongest. Blood stained the soil. The smell and terror still lingered around the destroyed pack. The land was scared and it may never heal.
