Chapter 20 - The Unexpected Present

[Anderson Enterprises – The Next Morning]

The morning sun spilled through the glass walls of Damien's corner office, gilding everything it touched in soft light. For once, the air wasn't heavy with tension or deadlines. It was alive with an unfamiliar lightness.

And Martin could tell something was different the moment he walked in.

His boss—Damien Anderson, the man who was infamous for being ice-cold, the one who could make every individual sweat was humming under his breath.

Martin froze in the doorway, clutching the files to his chest. "Uh—good morning, sir."

Damien looked up from his desk, a grin spreading across his face. "Morning, Martin," he chirped. "You are early. I like that."

Martin blinked. Early? He was five minutes late.

"Y-yes, sir. I—uh—" he fumbled. "I brought the quarterly reports you asked for—"

"Perfect," Damien cut in cheerfully as he rose from his chair. "Let's see them but first—coffee. You look like you haven't slept. You didn't, did you?"
