"Pfft."
Xu Nianhua had been feeling a bit awkward, but hearing his words, she couldn't help but laugh, her laughter like silver bells ringing through the room. She looked up, eyes sparkling with starlight, a gentle smile on her lips, and said, "Yicheng, by then you'll be an old man with white hair, and I'll be an old lady, all gray and toothless. Beauty will have nothing to do with us."
"Who says so?" Pei Yicheng gazed at her, speaking each word with conviction: "In my heart, you'll always be the most beautiful. No one could ever compare. If you don't believe it, ask me again when we're old. I promise my answer won't change."
"By then..." Who knows if either of them will still be around?
Or maybe, with distance, they'll have stopped keeping in touch long ago?
Who can say what will happen decades from now?
Pei Yicheng's focused and affectionate gaze, his resolute and almost vow-like words, made Xu Nianhua swallow the rest of what she wanted to say.
