The night, bathed in bright moonlight and scattered with stars, held an alluring haze.
An Dafu propped the ladder borrowed during the day against the wall, then climbed up to observe the situation at the farm.
One hour passed, then two, and the pitch-black night remained silent.
Yet both An Dafu and An Ning were there — one squatting on the ladder, the other standing on the ground — yawning, overcome by despair from tiredness.
"Ningning, if you can't hold on, just go sleep. I can watch here alone," An Dafu said with heartache, seeing An Ning so exhausted.
"No need, I'm not tired; I'll stay here to keep you company." As she spoke, An Ning once again yawned.
It clearly proved that what she said was actually a lie.
Yet, staying could at least keep An Dafu company. With the occasional conversation, the deep night did not seem so terrifying.
However, staying alone would mean fatigue compounded with boredom, making it even harder to endure.
