The biggest upsets were twofold. One involved the alma mater of Duncan and Paul, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who were unexpectedly defeated by the Cleveland State Vikings Men's Team, a team without a single top 100 high school player in the nation. The Demon Deacons, led by the likes of Jeff Teague, ranked 55th nationally as a high school player in 2007, Al-Farouq Aminu, ranked 7th nationwide in 2008, James Johnson, ranked 46th nationally in 2007, and David Weaver, ranked 73rd nationally in 2005, among six top-tier American talents, were favorites to win the championship this year, whereas the Vikings Men's Team didn't have any notable high school players except Norris Cole.
