Chapter 95 - THE WEAVER OF KIRI

"What exactly will you do with that information? How do we know you aren't just handing us over to the people who burned our homes?"

He was speaking slowly, dragging out every word. He wasn't just asking a question; he was buying time. He knew the others needed a moment to coordinate their thoughts. While he kept the Unit Leader's attention, his eyes darted sharply toward Sakura.

He didn't move his head, just his gaze. He knew she was the most cunning and observant one in the group—if anyone could come up with a name that would pass a background check, it was her.

The Unit Leader crossed his arms over his chest plate. "We are Tetsu no Kuni. We do not take sides in your wars. We will send a messenger hawk to the ruins or the leaders of the village you name."

"Even if the place is destroyed, records usually remain. We will ask if nine children with your descriptions exist in their logs."

He stepped back, gesturing toward the dark tunnel beyond the gate.

"Until the hawk returns, you will stay in the Main City of Tetsu no Kuni. You will not be in a hole, but my unit will keep a strict, twenty-four-hour watch on you."

"You will have to survive on your own—find your own food, use your own copper—but you will have a roof. If the hawk confirms you are civilians, we will take measures to see you returned home safely. If not..."

He didn't finish the sentence, but the humming of the chakra-blades behind him finished it for him.

The silence that followed was heavy. Naruto held his breath, and Lee looked like he was vibrating with nervous energy. They all looked at Sasuke, but Sasuke was still looking at Sakura, waiting for her to take the lead.

Finally, Sakura stepped forward. She smoothed down her tattered cloak and wiped the fake soot from her forehead, her expression changing from scared orphan to a girl who was weary but determined.

She looked the Unit Leader right in the eye.

"TEA,"

The word hung in the freezing air, smaller than the wind but more powerful than any jutsu.

"Tea," Sakura repeated firmly. "A small village in Mizu no Kuni . We are from a tiny town on the edge of Kiri."

The silence that followed was absolute.

Naruto's thought raced, 'Mizu no Kuni? Isn't that across the sea? Why would we be all the way up here in the mountains? Sakura-chan must have a massive plan... I just need to keep my mouth shut and look sad. dattebayo.

Ino thought, 'The Mizu no Kuni... it's perfect. That place has been in a bloody civil war for years. Their records are a mess, and half their villages have been wiped off the map. It's the best place to be 'from' because no one can prove we don't exist there.'

'Brilliant. Kirigakure is known for its 'Chi-giri no Sato' history. It explains why we are so battle-hardened and why we have so many weapons. She's giving us a background that explains our strength without calling us Shinobi.' thought Sasuke.

Tenten's thought, 'A small town in the Kiri... that explains the scrolls and the wires. Everyone there has to learn to fight just to survive the night. She's turned our biggest weakness—our skills—into part of our cover story.'

'She's using the chaos of Kirigakure against them. A messenger hawk sent there might never even find a person alive to answer. It buys us weeks, maybe months.' thought Neji.

Hinata' finally undertood what Sakura meant and thought, 'Mizu no Kuni is so far away... it makes our journey look even more desperate. It explains why we look so tired.'

Karin thought, 'Kirigakure... even the Samurai fear the stories that come out of those lands. He might be too scared of the political mess there to dig too deep.'

Mini-Sasuke, shivering against Naruto's back, was the only one truly confused and thought, 'Tea? Like the drink? Why are we saying we live in a drink? Is she saying we are from a teapot?'

The Unit Leader tilted his head, the metal of his neck guard creaking. Kirigakure was a place of ghosts and blood. It was a long, dangerous way from Tetsu no Kuni.

"Mizu no Kuni," the Samurai mused, his voice sounding heavy. "The islands of the Kiri. A place where the soil is soaked in blood and the superiors are eating themselves alive. It is a very far cry from Takigakure."

He stepped toward Sakura,"If you are from the Mizu no Kuni, why are you here? Why cross the entire ocean and the continent just to reach our frozen gates? Why not seek refuge in the Hi no Kuni or Kaminari no Kuni?"

Sakura didn't flinch. She took a breath, letting the freezing air fill her lungs, and looked the Unit Leader in the eye with a gaze that seemed years older than her face.

"Because Tetsu no Kuni is the only place left with clean hands," Sakura said, her voice steady and sharp. "The Great War has left the rest of the world in a state of 'peace' that feels like a slow death."

"We are children of the Kirigakure—refugees from a land everyone fears. Do you think Konoha would take us? To them, we are just future spies or enemies. They see our origins and they close their gates."

She gestured to the others behind her.

"Sunnagakure is a desert of bones. Iwagakure and Kumogakure? They are rebuilding their own armies and have no room for orphans who carry the scent of the Mizu no Kuni."

"We have walked across the continent because we knew that only here—in a land that stays neutral, a land that does not take part in the blood-wars of the Great Nations—could we find a place where we wouldn't be judged for where we were born."

The silence returned, heavier than before. Ino thought, 'Wow. She's playing on his pride as a Samurai. She's telling him that Tetsu no Kuni is a 'better' and 'more honorable' than the Ninja villages. He's going to eat this up.'

'Calculated. By mentioning the political tension between Kirigakure and the other nations, she explains why we didn't stop at the Konoha or Kumo. It makes our presence here a desperate search for safety, not a mission.' Neji understood.

Sasuke was the first one who realised the tactics Sakura was playing, 'Clever. She's using the truth of the world's hatred to hide our lie. No one wants kids from the Kirigakure. It's a story any ninja would believe.'

Naruto's thoughts took the better of him, 'I didn't know the world was that mean... but Sakura-chan makes it sound so real. I just need to keep looking like a sad guy from a place called Tea. dattebayo.'

The Unit Leader stood silent for a long time. He looked at the group—nine children, scarred, armed with scavenged steel, carrying a sick boy and two blind siblings, claiming to have crossed the world to find the only neutral ground left.

"A long walk for a bit of honor," the Samurai finally said, his voice less harsh than before.

"Kirigakure is a graveyard, and the Great Nations are indeed selfish. If you truly came all this way just to find a neutral sky..."

He turned to his men and signaled with a sharp chop of his hand.

"Seal the box. These children stay together. We will send the hawk to the Tea province in the Mizu no Kuni. Until the message returns, they will stay in the city under the unit's shadow."

He looked back at Sakura. "You have your roof. But remember—if the hawk returns with a 'No,' the mercy of Tetsu no Kuni ends at this gate."

✍️ AUTHOR'S NOTE

Author's Note: The Weaver of Kiri 🧶🌊

This chapter belongs to the architect of the lie. By weaving the group's identity into the bloody tapestry of Mizu no Kuni, the "Healer" transforms their greatest liability—their lethality—into their most tragic defense. She crafts a narrative where their battle-hardened reflexes aren't proof of a mission, but scars of a civil war, making their 'scent of smoke' a testament to survival rather than aggression.

The choice of the Tea Province is a masterstroke of tactical manipulation. By selecting a land currently being hollowed out by internal affairs, she ensures that any search for truth will be lost in a graveyard of burnt records and missing names. She doesn't just provide an origin; she weaponsizes the chaos of Kiri to buy the group the only currency that matters: time.

Perhaps most brilliant is her appeal to the Samurai's vanity. By painting Tetsu no Kuni as the world's last sanctuary of 'clean hands,' she pivots the Unit Leader from a skeptical gaoler to a noble protector. She didn't just pick a name on a map; she built a bridge out of his own pride, securing their entry through the sheer, sharp elegance of her mind. 🏯🌸

🗣️ TALK TO ME!

I am actually crying laughing at the mental images from this chapter. It's like a high-stakes spy movie, but one of the spies is a confused toddler and another thinks they're from a beverage! Let's get into it: 👇

Sakura: The CEO of Gaslighting! 💅🔥

She didn't just tell a lie; she wrote a whole Oscar-winning screenplay on the spot! She looked that scary Samurai in the eye and basically said, "We're from the Kiri. Everyone hates us. You're the only cool guy left in the world. Please love us." She played him like a violin! She turned their "we're good at killing" problem into "we're just traumatized orphans from a land of ghosts." 🎻🎭

Mini-Sasuke: The Teapot Terror! 🍵👶

Can we please give a round of applause for Mini-Sasuke's brain? Everyone is having these deep, political thoughts about civil wars and messenger hawks, and he's just sitting there like: "Wait... we live in a drink now? Am I a tea leaf? Is Usurantokachi a kettle?" He is so small and so confused. While the teenagers are playing chess, he's just wondering if they're moving into a giant teapot! 🫖🤣

The "Messenger Hawk" Scam! 🦅📉

Sakura picking the Tea Province in the Mist is the smartest "technicality" ever. It's like telling someone you're from a city that literally burned down yesterday. "Oh, you want to check my records? Good luck, the file cabinet is currently on fire and underwater!" She didn't just buy them time; she bought them a whole vacation while the poor Samurai waits for a bird that's never coming back. 🕊️🔥

Naruto: The King of "Dattebayo" Support! 🐸📣

Naruto's internal monologue is the best. He has zero clue what the plan is, but he's 100% committed to being "Sad Guy from Tea." He's like that one friend who joins a group project at the last second and just nods at everything the smart kid says. "Yeah, Tea! I love tea! I am very sad and leafy! Dattebayo!" 🍵🍃

A jagged horizon of white and of stone,

Where the predators watch from a crystalline throne.

As the 'children of Tea' play their ultimate part. 🍵🎭

But the higher they climb, the more they can feel—

The bite of the mountain is sharper than steel. ⚔️

SNEAK PEAK LINES 💬

'It took us five days to reach this place...'

'It was the start of a new kind of war—one fought with words instead of kunai.'
