Chapter 254 - Chapter 254 : Karasuno Vs Kakugawa (2)

Yūdai Hyakuzawa opened his mouth, but no words came out.

In his mind, he believed that as long as he could jump higher, he could win.

It was a belief held by many.

But today, that belief had been shattered.

And so, for a moment, Hyakuzawa was frozen, unable to react.

"I'm okay."

It wasn't until the referee blew the whistle again that he snapped back to reality.

No matter what he thought, the game would go on.

Across the net, Shōyō Hinata prepared for another serve.

Bang!

Another powerful jump serve slammed into Kakugawa's court.

The second round had begun!

———

"That's a noticeable improvement."

In the stands, Ikkei Ukai stroked his chin thoughtfully.

Just from that jump serve, Hinata's growth was obvious.

You had to remember—when he came to visit with Kageyama just last month, he hadn't used this kind of jump serve at all.

"There's probably an attacker's influence behind this," said Yusuke Takinoue with some hesitation.

The others understood what he meant.

A powerful jump serve, in essence, is like an aggressive spike.

The timing, ball control, and precision needed are all similar.

And if the attacker has a solid spiking foundation, learning this type of serve is easier than for most people.

It just requires a shift in mindset and a lot of practice.

Ukai shook his head.

"Even if that's the case, it's still really impressive."

The last time he saw Hinata was only a month ago.

In that short time, Hinata had trained hard enough to not only learn the serve but execute it reliably in a real match.

At the very least, there hadn't been a single glaring mistake in either of his serves.

And both had a clear impact.

"This doesn't feel…"

"…like Keishin's style at all," Ukai muttered, his eyes narrowing in doubt.

As Keishin Ukai's grandfather, Ikkei knew his grandson's coaching style well.

This kind of serve didn't seem like something Keishin would have taught.

———

Creak!

While they were discussing, the game on the court had reached its midpoint.

Facing the current Karasuno lineup, Kakugawa's resistance was clearly insufficient.

The one thing they had relied on—Hyakuzawa's unreturnable spikes—had now been neutralized.

Akira had completely shut him down, despite the height gap between them.

For Akira, blocking Hyakuzawa's spikes was far easier than most imagined.

Hyakuzawa's offensive technique wasn't anything special.

In fact, compared to the rest of Kakugawa's team, he was far less polished.

He was still a beginner in every sense.

In Akira's opinion, even someone like Lev Haiba had far better offensive skills.

Hyakuzawa's only option was to smash the ball straight ahead.

There was no variation, no deception—just brute force.

You didn't even need to read his movements. Just place your hands directly in front of the spike.

It was that easy.

In contrast, someone like Kōtarō Bokuto would be much harder to deal with.

With Hyakuzawa's attack strategy falling apart, Kakugawa quickly slipped into a freefall, allowing Karasuno to rack up point after point.

Now the score stood at Karasuno 11, Kakugawa 2.

The gap was glaring.

Bang!

Kageyama Tobio launched a blistering jump serve toward Kakugawa's back row.

The power was overwhelming—Kakugawa's defenders didn't even have time to react.

The ball hit the ground cleanly.

Creak!

The referee blew the whistle.

Karasuno scored again!

Kageyama hadn't been slacking during training, either.

His powerful jump serve had also seen targeted improvements.

In both strength and precision, he had made a clear leap forward.

That last serve— on the radar—was aimed precisely between two back-row players on Kakugawa's side.

The perfect combination of force and accuracy.

The defenders had no time to respond.

Then the referee blew the whistle again, signaling Kageyama's next serve.

———

"Kageyama's serve is ridiculously strong."

The Aoba Johsai team had arrived early and taken seats in the stands.

Tōru Oikawa watched the game with keen interest.

"Yeah," said Issei Matsukawa, leaning against the railing beside him. "Feels just like yours."

"Not quite," Oikawa replied with a smile.

"If it were the old me... maybe."

"But I've grown since then."

"And it's not just Kageyama making progress."
