"Talking"

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What do you call a Saiyan who looks at a full moon?"

"What?"

"An Ozaru."

"...I don't think there's any hope for you."

Gray chuckled lightly as he watched Celia tell her twentieth 'joke' to King Kai, trying to pass the test that every fighter who wanted to be his student had to - the test to make him laugh.

It's kind of annoying, but I'd rather this than something else.

Luckily, Gray and his squad, being bloodthirsty Saiyans who had killed more than a fair share of people and were decidedly not the 'good guys' in the grand scheme of the universe, didn't make King Kai opposed to training them. The North Kai hadn't originally trained Goku because he was pure of heart or a 'hero' in the real sense of that word, but instead because he would train any warrior who could 'prove their strength and worthiness.' Which, despite how intense that sounded, King Kai judged worthiness and strength by someone's ability to make him laugh.

But I'm glad I got to skip this part. His sense of humor is all out of whack!

Gray was surprised that King Kai wasn't laughing at Celia's terrible 'jokes,' because as an example before he started judging them, he had said the 'amazing' joke, 'Why did the golfer need two pairs of pants? He had a hole in one!'

"HAHAHA! B-But you passed! T-That's so funny! HAHAHA!" Luckily, despite King Kai's humor being hard to gauge and appeal to, everyone was slowly passing solely because of one bald hero, "I-I'll take it! You're funny enough to make up for her!"

"I'm just standing here…" Saitama sighed as King Kai pointed at his shiny, egg-shaped head and burst out laughing.

Poor guy. He's the worst possible guy to be bald.

Normally, being bald was a hairstyle, as some even did it by choice. It was perfectly acceptable - unless your head was perfectly shaped like an egg, and if your bald head was so shiny that even in the pitch-darkness of Monas it was shining like a disco ball.

But, if it'll help us all get some much-needed training, then I'm glad you're bald, Saitama.

Gray was a bit more confident after one-shotting Turles, which was largely due to Saitama holding him in place as Gray channeled literally every ounce of Ki he had into his attack, mainly because of the rewards that came from it and not because the other Saiyan was dead now. After having his heart ripped out and his chest busted open, Turles had only lived for another minute or so as he bled out, dying the grass of King Kai's planet red.

[Saiyan 'Turles' has been defeated!]

+15,500,000 XP!

+15,500,000 Coins!

Level up!

+50 Attribute Points!

Besides the 'basic' rewards he got for killing the man, which were still rather insane as the coin and XP value exceeded even what the quest was offering, Gray also completed the 'become King Kai's student' quest, and got the rewards for that.

[Quest Complete!]

Become [King Kai]'s student!

Kill or Subdue [Turles]!

Rewards:

+2000 Attribute points (10x multiplier from [Nightmare Mode])

+2,000,000 Coins

+2,000,000 XP (10x multiplier from [Nightmare Mode])

Bonus Rewards:

[Hidden Rewards] will be available for this quest!

[Hidden Rewards:]

+500 Attribute Points for defeating [Turles] with one attack!

+1,000,000 Coins for defeating [Turles] with one attack!

+1,000,000 XP for defeating [Turles] with one attack!

[Missed Hidden Rewards:]

+500 Attribute Points for defeating [Turles] without assistance!

+1,000,000 Coins for defeating [Turles] without assistance!

+1,000,000 XP for defeating [Turles] without assistance!

+200 Attribute Points for depleting all of [Turles]'s HP on your own!

+500,000 Coins for depleting all of [Turles]'s HP on your own!

+500,000 XP for depleting all of [Turles]'s HP on your own!

It sucks that I missed out on some rewards, but I can't complain.

Gray had largely lucked into getting the hidden rewards that he did, as he was lucky that Saitama was there to hold the man in place as he launched the killing blow. Without the bald hero's assistance, taking down Turles would've been a hell of a lot more difficult.

But, seriously, you couldn't have let me have those last rewards, game?

Gray hadn't technically done all the damage to Turles, as Saitama had punched him into King Kai's home prior to Gray receiving his quest and charging up his attack, but it'd been more of a light swat than an actual attack. Turles didn't even look bruised when he came out of the rubble, so Gray would've appreciated the system cutting him some slack.

But that never happens, so can't expect much, huh?

Gray glanced around the small planet, taking in the various figures trying to make King Kai laugh. After Turles' quick and painful death, the rest of the people teleported by the Dragon Balls had gathered, and Gray had been able to take a headcount of everyone.

Most of Gray's squad was 'alright' - well, as alright as you could be after either dying or coming very close to it. Luckily, Saiyans were trained from birth to fight, and facing death on missions wasn't something uncommon or unexpected. There would be no breakdowns or trauma, though even the strongest of Saiyans would be at least a bit mentally damaged by experiencing defeat and death.

Overall, Caulifla, Kale, Ochaco, Raphtalia, Cabba, Yen, and Len had all died during the time Gray was knocked out on Monas, along with Suiryu and various students of Atomic Samurai. They had all kept their 'bodies' in death, as they looked as they usually would, but with halos floating over them, for one reason or another.

I don't know why, but I'm not complaining.

How exactly death worked in the Dragon Ball world was already shaky information at best, as if you became a floating soul without a stable body, or even disappeared into nothingness, or kept your form depended on a lot of factors - ranging from strength, overall goodness, and if you went to hell or not.

But none of that matters right now. Everyone is here, and that's all that matters.

Aside from the dead group, which was now smaller after both Caulifla and Kale had been revived, the rest of his squad was alive, even if they'd been beaten pretty badly. From what Gray had gathered from them over their short time back together on King Kai's planet, the plan had fallen apart pretty quickly, and Gray's loss to Boros wasn't even the catalyst for it. That had instead been the Monster King lying in wait deep underground in Monas, Orochi, who'd caused all the problems.

Even if Boros hadn't shown up, we wouldn't have been able to win.

From Saitama's rather short and unhelpful explanation to Gray, Orochi had 'died, then not died, then died again, then not died again.' Celia hadn't been there to see it all, but she had explained it a bit better to Gray, saying that Orochi's energy had been fluctuating up and down throughout the entire day - essentially, he'd lose to Saitama, power up, lose again, and then power up again.

I wish I could do bullshit like that. Well, actually, I kind of can?

Considering Zenkai boosts existed in this world, Gray couldn't be too mad about the Monster King having what he assumed was bullshit-ass power boosts. He was in a world that was based around bullshit powerups and asspulls, so it should be expected.

Following the Monster King's powerup, Gray had gathered that the situation on Monas turned into an every man for himself situation, with most of his squad, along with the heroes, realizing that trying to interfere was hopeless. They fled from the danger zone that was the Tower, trying to find Gray as the weaker ones got picked off by being caught in the planet-destroying fight that was happening on Monas or the Monster Executives.

"What you're doing is foolish, Garou! You have a chance to repent now, so you must take it!"

"I have nothing to say to you, old man."

Gray glanced over, taking in the final newcomer on King Kai's planet, who was an anomaly to him. The man had a muscular yet lean physique, blood-red hair, and a young-looking, handsome face. He was taller than Bang, being nearly the same height even as he sat on a pile of bricks, which had once been King Kai's home, boredly.

What's up with strong bastards showing up out of nowhere?

When Gray had used [Observe] on the man earlier, finding out that he was apparently the student Silver Fang had been looking for, he'd been shocked.

[Talented] Garou:

[The Ultimate Monster]

Age: 18

PL: ?

HP: ?

TKI: ?

TMP: ?

[Talented Modifier] - Individuals with this modifier will be naturally talented, learning and adapting quicker than usual.

Gray hadn't even heard the man's name until today, and he was apparently so strong that he couldn't see his stats. Not only that, but the man was even aiming for Saitama, as evident by the conversation that he'd been having with Bang - which was clearly going nowhere.

"You must be reasonable, Garou." Bang huffed, staring down hardly at his student, "What do you have to gain by siding with monsters?!"

"I'm not siding with anyone, annoying bastard," Garou just huffed, looking up at him with lidded eyes, "I will become the Strongest Monster, and I'll do whatever I have to in order to achieve that! Whether it's you in my way or the Monster King, I don't give a damn. I just need to fight that baldy again!"

"Why does everyone have to mention that I'm bald?" Saitama deadpanned, glancing over at Garou even as King Kai was bursting out laughing, pointing at his shiny head again.

To be fair, he's really bald. Really, really bald.

Saitama also mentioned something about a 'portal guy' showing up and fighting with him, but there was no 'portal guy' to be seen on King Kai's planet, aside from Gray himself, so Gray wasn't sure if the man's information could be trusted or not. Besides that, while Garou was definitely a concerning presence on King Kai's planet, Gray wasn't overly concerned. The man just seemed to want to fight Saitama, but when the bald hero had just casually said 'not right now,' he hadn't pushed the issue and instead was sitting around waiting.

I'll focus on my own training now and hope that Silver Fang can keep him under control.

"How long do we have until King Vegeta sends someone to Monas?" Gray asked bluntly, glancing over at Celia as she stepped away from King Kai, letting Asia step up to take her turn.

"The mission was expected to be long, even with moons for us to transform," Celia answered easily, "We're already ahead of schedule since they handled some of the planets for us, though we lost some time while you were unconscious. My father will assume we failed if we're not back within half a year, but with 'that' happening…"

'That'? I really wish she would stop speaking in riddles!

Celia trailed off for a moment, staring down at the ground with an unreadable expression, then glanced back up at Gray, "One month. Including the trip back to Planet Vegeta, we have one month. That is, assuming you have a way for us to get back there?"

Celia finished her sentence by blandly gesturing at the world around them, which was decidedly unlike any planet she had ever seen. That was true for the rest of Gray's squad as well, though they hadn't pressed him for information after he'd answered any 'what's going on?'s with a promise to explain it all later.

"I do, and it's instant," Gray nodded simply, as while the Namekian Dragon Balls had been used and were still on Monas, he could still purchase the Earth ones.

How does this even work? It's just one dragon, but if I buy another set of Namekian balls, will I get another Porunga? Will the cooldown go away? Is there still another set on Namek, or did I steal it?

Gray wasn't sure, but he also didn't want to find out. If he wasted his coins on more Namekian ones just to find out they were essentially useless, then he'd be more than a bit pissed.

I'll just wish us all back to Monas with the Earth balls after we're finished here. For now…

"Can we skip the rest of this?" Gray asked bluntly, stepping forward towards King Kai as he pointed at Saitama, "We only have a month, so we don't have time to waste. He's funny enough for all of us, right?"

"A month? You coming back to life after that or somethin'?" King Kai deadpanned sarcastically, then his mouth thinned out as he glared at Gray lightly, "And you want to skip the test?! I don't just train anybody who shows up here, y'know! Everyone has to pass the test!"

King Kai finished his sentence with a huff, but then slowly glanced over at Saitama. His eyes trailed up to his shiny bald head, and he burst out laughing a second later.

"It's not that funny," Saitama deadpanned at the laughing blue Kai.

"HAHAHAHA! It is! It's so funny!" King Kai just laughed, but slowly composed himself as he glanced over at Gray, "Fine, fine, you all pass. But, don't think my training is easy!"

King Kai grinned widely, locking eyes with Gray.

"A day with me is worth a thousand anywhere else!"

That's what I like to hear!
