Chapter 51 - Effort Of Will

The members of L'Manburg were not used to working as hard as they had for the past couple days.

It had been a grueling process for all of them. Barring sleep, they were working nonstop, with Dream watching them worriedly.

Dream had no doubt that Technoblade would have incredibly powerful gear on the very day that he arrived in this realm. L'Manburg needed all of the time it had to prepare.

The thing about Technoblade was that he never gave up. So neither would they.

If they did, they wouldn't live to realize their ambition of true freedom.

On the outside, L'Manburg had finally opened its gates. No more hiding, solitude.

Everyone was accepted.

Well, almost everyone. Everyone that came, anyway.

And because of that? Its importance was fading. Tommy and Wilbur were no longer getting the respect Wilbur thought that they deserved.

And the election continued, secretly. The plan was for Wilbur and Tommy to form an election with them being the only ones on the ballot. That way they would technically have been elected by popular vote, even though the people had had no choice.

Dream didn't protest this plan. There were two reasons for that.

Number one was that it was tiring to speak to people, more than just Tommy's obstinate attitude. Dream was still not whole. He doubted that he could fight properly if he tried, which made this even more imperative.

And the second?

The second was that any election would likely not stop Technoblade. Yes, he professed to destroy tyranny. But he also destroyed governments wherever they may be found.

So Dream watched.

He watched as Wilbur and Tommy bragged to Quackity about their plan.

And yes, he did feel a small bit of relief when Quackity decided, right then and there, to oppose them. But in the end, he doubted it would matter.

Quackity titled his party So We Are Gamers. SWAG.

And then he left to go and gain his own support base from among the people.

Tommy and Wilbur were in shock.

Wilbur could do nothing except write it down in the book. As the self-professed leader of a self-professed democracy, his hands were tied. He couldn't very well deny Quackity a chance.

But then what could he do? Tommy and Wilbur had titled their party The Right, The Best.

It wasn't a bad name.

Dream grimaced. Okay, it was a terrible name.

And it was nowhere near good enough to go against SWAG.

They needed a better one. And so, Wilbur came up with one.

Politicians Of Gaming. POG. The only conceivable word that could fight against SWAG.

And with that, the race for support began. Wilbur and Tommy split up to cover more ground, but Dream didn't think it would matter. Quackity had both a head start and a base of fighting against tyranny.

In reality, Quackity had no reason but gaining power for himself to do this. Dream could see it in the way his eyes faintly gleamed with greed when he spoke. While Dream could no longer see auras of emotion like he used to be able to, he could still see emotions faintly in people's eyes. This was not a man who gave heed to the needs of others. And yet, the people didn't know that. They only knew what Quackity told them.

And what Quackity told them was that Wilbur and Tommy had set a date for an election without telling anyone so that they could be the only ones with power. He set himself up as a hero in their eyes.

Dream didn't pay attention that closely to everything going on. Or perhaps he paid it too closely. He couldn't be in three places at once, and he could no longer float or go through blocks, so moving between them would be time-consuming and mostly useless anyway.

So Dream followed Tommy. And what he saw discouraged him. Quackity had been to see most of the people already, informing them of what was happening. It wasn't looking good for POG.

But there was hope. Some people showed a less firm resolve. Perhaps they could be swayed.

The Dream reminded himself that it didn't really matter who won. He shook his head to recenter himself. He couldn't be concerned with things like elections. He had to be focused on preserving L'Manburg.
