Chapter 158 - Burning II

(Baelon's POV)

"They are thorough...." Aemond said as he approached me, "Gone into the wind....it might take a while for us to truly find where they are...how do you wish to approach this?"

It had been the following day and after searching all of Braavos and the surrounding area, we could not find where Gael was. We were both atop a building at the edge of the city, Balerion was in the distance with a deep growl as Vhagar was next to him. Both Daeron and Aegon were patrolling outside Braavos, trying to spot any stragglers.

That damned woman! She was able to use innocents as shields to keep me from getting her....

And not only that, but potentially my own son as well.

She is as vile as they come.

I will not forgive that woman.

"Tch..." I said with a scowl, "This beginning to become a waste..."

"We can't burn everything down, Baelon." Aemond said, "The Braavosi have nothing to do with this."

"I know." I sighed as I turned around, "Any sign of them in the burning corpses? Aegon kept going for a while, did he not?"

Aemond shook his head, "The timing does not add up." He said, "I do not think that she would end up there."

"Damn it all..." I said as I clenched my fist, "What then?"

"We have found more men that were theirs." He said, "The Sealord and his men have rounded them up outside the city again."

"Fine...." I said, "Let us go and question them."

"That is a good idea." He said, "After this, we should leave. I do not suggest going on any further, Baelon."

"I know." I said, "Any longer and we will have a bigger conflict. I have already pushed my luck with Pentos, I am not going to piss Father off by doing something worse here in Braavos."

"I hear there is an elusive group of assassins in Braavos." Aemond said, "The Faceless Men...."

"What about them?" I asked

"Do you not think they could be involved?" He asked

"If they were, do you not think any of us would be dead by now?" I said with a frown

"Well, one of us...." He said, "You are the most difficult man to kill."

"Yea, do not place me that high in your pedestal, brother." I said, "Let us go and see these men then."

**********

"What do you know, huh?!" Aegon kicked one of them in the stomach, "Speak, dammit!! We are overstaying our welcome here in Braavos!"

"Enough, Aegon." Daeron pulled him away, "The man can't speak, his throat was cut!"

"Oh...." Aegon said as he looked at the man clutching the bandages of his throat, "How is he alive?"

"Sheer willpower, it seems." Aemond said

I sighed, "Aegon is right..." I said, "We cannot waste any more time...."

We were outside Braavos, more men had been rounded up by the Sealord's men and I could not help but feel a bit of resentment coming from the Braavosi. It makes sense, I had their commanders killed and sent to the Sealord himself.

I do not care about them at the moment. I wanted to know something....anything about Gael and her next move.

I looked at another man who was on his knees, panting slightly, "You." I pointed at him, "You must know something."

He looked at me, "W-What?"

I walked over to him, "You know Gael, do you not?" I tilted my head, "Tell me what you know."

"N-Nothing...." He said, "I know nothing...."

"Hm...." I said with a nod, "I doubt that."

"What makes you say that?" He asked with a scowl

"You have to know something." I said, "I mean....the man who recruits you....did he not say anything about where to go after this? For the past few months, you lot have been jumping all over Essos. I am assuming you were not going to stay here in Braavos for long.....no, after Gael got what she wanted from the Sealord and the Iron Bank, she would have gone somewhere else....and planned her next move....."

He spat on the ground, "I know nothing...."

"Sure." I said as I looked at Aegon, "Do it."

Aegon sighed, "Imbeciles...."

He then reached down for the man who had his throat slit and pulled him to the side, dragging him along towards where Sunfyre sat, the golden dragon seeing this unfold.

Aegon then tossed the man and stepped back, pointing at him as Sunfyre shook his neck and snarled.

"Dracarys"

Sunfyre opened his maw and unleashed a quick stream of flames, burning the man alive as he let out a muffled yell of pain.

"Ah, so he could scream after all...." Aegon said as he watched the man be reduced to nothing while Sunfyre stepped back and let out a burp

"Man...." Daeron said, "I hope we do not have to burn all of them....."

"We literally burned nearly a thousand of them." Aegon told him

"Yes, but this seems rather tasteless...." Daeron said

"Fuck taste." Aegon said, "I want justice."

I looked at the man who was shaken up, panting heavily.

"See?" I said, "Dragonfire....you heard all about it, I bet....and there it is before you. And Sunfyre is not that large compared to....well, obviously....that one."

I pointed behind me, where Balerion was in the far distance. I did not need to turn and see that the big one was glaring at the group of men.

"W-What...." He said

"Do you understand what the flames of the Black Dread are capable of?" I asked, "The Braavosi here sure do know....that is why they did not want to involve themselves with whatever you fuckers were doing....they know that Balerion could reduce all of this place to nothing but a pile of ash and rubble...."

"I..." He started

"I can place your face over the burning corpse of your comrade, see how you can fare with the heat of dragonfire..." I said, "Think about it...."

"You are going to kill me anyways!" He shouted

"Yes, but would you rather a clean death? With my sword?" I asked, "Or a painful one, bathed in flames? Your choice....."

"I really am itching to throw another one of you fuckers into the flames..." Aegon said

"Be wise and make the right choice..." Aemond said

"I'd rather not smell burning flesh...." Daeron muttered

"F-Fine...." the man said, "M-Mereen...."

"Mereen?" I asked with a raised eyebrow

"That is where Gael plans on going....." He said, "Mereen.....they had another group of forces there..."

"Hm..." Aemond said, "That is a long flight....we will not be able to go there without alerting the entirety of Essos."

"Agreed." I said as I sighed, "We need to think of something....anyways...kill them."

"Make it quick."
