Chapter 437, What Profession Is He?
"You didn't even know he died?" Sheila Grey frowned as she looked at him.
"No, no idea." The man was pushed back by the team members, hurriedly adding, "In the morning, I even delivered breakfast to his room."
Sheila Grey sized him up and saw his legs trembling. It didn't look like he was faking it.
She said to the team members, "Keep an eye on everyone and take them back to the Guild for questioning."
The team members spread out, gathering all the servants and guards together.
Inside the room.
Wu Heng examined the corpse while releasing a ghost to scout the surroundings.
But no obvious clues were found.
"How is it?" Sheila Grey walked over and asked.
"He hasn't been dead for long, probably just moments before we arrived," Wu Heng said.
Sheila Grey frowned and glanced at the corpse again. "The killer took the head to stop you from interrogating the corpse."
"Most likely."
"So, someone knew you were investigating here and rushed over to kill him, cutting off the trail entirely," Sheila Grey analyzed with a frown.
The situation was clear.
It was definitely related to Milisen's kidnapping and the killing of the guard captain.
Wu Heng added, "The other party must be a high-level Professional."
"The speed is unbelievable. We came straight here, yet they acted before us," Sheila Grey said, pulling open the curtains and looking at the open window.
"It's possible they started handling things as soon as we captured Greco," Wu Heng replied.
Sheila Grey frowned. "Yes, they couldn't kill Greco to stop you from interrogating him, so they came here to kill this person."
As she spoke, Sheila Grey's eyes widened. "There are more people involved."
"That's the only explanation. Search the room first and report back to the Steward at the Guild."
"Understood!"
The team members dispersed.
A few searched the room for clues while others watched over the servants outside.
Once the investigation was mostly complete, they all returned to the Guild.
...…
At the Guild, in the Steward's study.
Sheila Grey recounted what had happened to Imiro.
"The corpse has been sent to the morgue, and the others are interrogating the servants from that residence."
Regarding the target's head being taken.
While Imiro seemed surprised, he wasn't overly shocked.
He merely thought for a moment and said, "Have the investigators record everything as usual. Also, notify all field agents in the Guild to stay vigilant and report any issues immediately."
"Understood!" The two nodded.
"I will handle negotiations with the City Hall. You both continue investigating this case. Wu Heng, especially you, avoid going out to sea for now," Imiro added.
"Oh, okay."
Imiro waved them off, and Sheila Grey immediately left.
Wu Heng, however, stayed behind.
Imiro asked, "What is it? You have something else?"
"Steward, shouldn't we shut down the tavern? If this incident spreads, others might link it to the Guild," Wu Heng said directly.
The Nautilus Tavern had provided some valuable intelligence.
Moreover, it had been well-established and was developing nicely. Shutting it down felt regrettable.
Imiro continued to gaze at him. "You investigated the Old Barrel case. Why didn't you consider that others might suspect the Old Barrel of being a Guild spy?"
Huh?
That was a different perspective.
The Old Barrel, as a prominent force on Lighthouse Street, never raised suspicions of being a Guild spy, even with the Guild's assistance.
"The Old Barrel operates differently and has deep roots. It's normal for no one to suspect them."
Imiro maintained his calm tone. "Your tavern is the same. Find a reasonable excuse to distance it from the Guild. Even if someone suspects, it won't matter much."
Wu Heng had rescued Milisen, but outsiders didn't know.
Unless the mastermind revealed it or the blank envelope exposed everything, outsiders remained unaware of what had happened.
At most, there was just a conflict between the Guild and the guard captain at the port.
Nothing directly related to the tavern.
"Alright, I understand. Thank you, Steward."
Wu Heng nodded and left the study.
...…
Returning to his office.
He sat for a while.
The door opened, and Andviel entered with a cloaked Milisen.
"Master, she's here."
Milisen removed her hood and bowed slightly. "My lord."
Wu Heng said, "Andviel, go prepare some food for her."
"Yes, Master."
Andviel left.
Wu Heng looked at Milisen. "Sit down. Are you feeling alright?"
Milisen carefully sat down, subconsciously touching her hip. "No discomfort. Thank you, my lord."
"The person who kidnapped you is dead, but there may be others involved. I'll assign two skeletons to protect you."
Milisen nodded. "Alright."
"Stay at the Guild for now. If nothing else arises, I'll arrange for you to reopen the tavern with a proper excuse."
Milisen's expression brightened. She didn't want to give up on the tavern she had worked so hard to establish.
"Yes, my lord."
"You've worked hard. Rest after eating and gather your strength," Wu Heng said, then added, "By the way, Philipa has joined the Guild. She asked me to let you know."
"Really? That's wonderful." Milisen was excited.
She then asked Wu Heng about her daughter's involvement with the Guild.
Wu Heng explained briefly.
They chatted for a while, and Andviel returned with food.
Milisen ate cautiously and then went to the prepared dormitory to rest.
Wu Heng also left the Guild, heading to his residence.
...…
Returning home.
After greeting Minnie, he entered the radio room on the third floor.
Picking up the microphone, he asked, "Philipa, are you there?"
As soon as he finished, Philipa's voice came through. "Eating. Missing me already?"
Wu Heng leaned against the table. "Your Whisperer status is approved. You'll also get a badge to prove your identity wherever you go."
"Really? Damn, I'm officially part of the Guild now," Philipa exclaimed.
"When you have time, I'll give you the badge. It's good to have as protection," Wu Heng said.
There was a brief pause before Philipa replied, "Maybe later. I'm busy building connections with the Savage Lion Pirate Crew these days."
"No rush. Let me know when you're free," Wu Heng said.
"Alright, I'm not in a hurry. Not sure how much I'll even need it. Just thinking about the Guild gives me the chills," Philipa said casually.
Wu Heng thought for a moment and continued, "Your mother was kidnapped yesterday, but she's been rescued and is safe now."
"How did that happen?" Philipa's tone suddenly became serious.
"Remember the guy who gave a speech at the port last time?"
"That pretty boy?"
"Yes. Apparently, he had sharp insight and planned this after seeing us enter the tavern and talk to your mother," Wu Heng explained.
"Damn it. What's his name? I'll kill his entire family tomorrow," Philipa cursed furiously.
At sea, pirates were the epitome of ferocity and vengeance.
Threats to family often resulted in extreme retaliation.
"He's already dead. This matter involves more, so be cautious. Don't let any related information affect you," Wu Heng warned.
Hearing the man was dead, Philipa calmed down. "Alright, I'll be careful. By the way, is her tavern reopening?"
"Not necessarily closed. I'll monitor the situation. If nothing arises, we'll release false intel to disconnect her from the Guild. Then, the tavern can reopen."
"Sounds good. She really loves that tavern. If possible, I hope she can keep running it."
"Don't worry. I'll ensure her safety. If the Lighthouse Street tavern can't reopen, we'll set one up outside the Guild for her," Wu Heng promised again.
"Hehe, thanks," Philipa said with a laugh.
"Any news from the pirates?" Wu Heng asked again.
"No, nothing new lately. I'll notify you if anything comes up."
"Alright, stay safe."
"Bye, Dad."
Hanging up the call.
Wu Heng returned upstairs to his study.
...…
He poured himself tea and sat behind his desk.
Leaning back, he pondered the recent events.
A guard captain actually plotted to lure and kill him.
Moreover, the second mastermind had their head severed, cutting off further investigation.
The island was becoming less secure.
But upon reflection.
The people of Gold-Silver Island were originally pirates.
Lured by high bounties, taking risks wasn't surprising.
"Not entirely a bad thing. At least it's a reminder of the island's dangers."
"I need to level up faster and ensure the safety of those around me."
Knock, knock, knock~!
As he spoke softly, the door was knocked on. Minnie's voice came from outside, "Master, it's time to eat."
Wu Heng opened the door and wrapped an arm around the little maid's shoulder as they went downstairs.
Minnie enthusiastically talked about the ingredients delivered by Shanaila and the dishes she had developed.
Downstairs, Andviel had also returned from the Guild.
The three sat at the dining table and began eating.
After dinner.
The three trained together.
Then each returned to their rooms to rest.
...…
The next morning, Wu Heng went to the Guild.
In the office.
Sheila Grey said, "The headless corpse from yesterday has been confirmed as our target. In the afternoon, the guard brought both corpses away, saying they'd investigate further."
"Did they say anything?"
"No, Steward Imiro was present. They had no objections," Sheila Grey said with a smile.
Wu Heng nodded. "Strength truly commands respect."
"Of course. Imiro holds a high status among the elves; otherwise, he wouldn't have been stationed here," Sheila Grey said with a hint of pride.
"Really? What status?"
Sheila Grey winked at him but didn't elaborate, sipping her tea instead.
Wu Heng didn't press further. He wasn't too interested in who among the elves held what rank.
After all, he came from another world.
Everyone had their unique background.
He took a sip of tea and pondered briefly before asking, "What profession is the lord of Gold-Silver Island?"
Sheila Grey glanced at him and said uncertainly, "Probably a Warrior, but there's no concrete information."
