Chapter 529, Necromancers Are Really Troublesome

The specters rushing toward her startled Glenda.

Why were there two specters here?

An ambush?

A necromancer?

Several thoughts flashed through Glenda's mind, but when she looked down at the man on the bed, he was still vigorously engaged with the woman.

They weren't his specters.

A necromancer wouldn't fail to notice specters this close, nearly face to face.

Seeing the two specters charging at her, Glenda didn't dare take any risks.

She turned and flew backward, phasing through the wall to escape.

The two ferocious specters followed, phasing through the wall and quickly pursuing her.

Meanwhile, the couple on the bed continued their movements, oblivious.

...…

Inside the carriage.

The surroundings were eerily quiet.

As time passed, Wu Heng felt that something was off.

The tavern was just ahead, and with Glenda's abilities, this shouldn't have taken so long.

"I'll go check. Something doesn't feel right," Wu Heng said, opening the carriage door.

As soon as he stepped out, Glenda's voice echoed through the night sky ahead. "Wu Heng!"

Wu Heng's pupils constricted, and he quickly focused on the direction of the voice, channeling his perception.

Glenda's spirit form was flying toward him, closely followed by two grotesque, ghost-like spirits.

One of the vengeful spirits caught up to Glenda, beginning to absorb her energy.

The second ghost quickly joined the attack, merging with the first.

Damn!

Wu Heng cursed, pulling out the [Soul-Whip] as he charged toward the entangled spirits.

At the same time, he called out, "Sheila Grey, grab them!"

Sheila Grey had just gotten off the carriage with him and heard his command clearly. She drew her sword and charged toward the tavern. "Capture them, kill anyone who resists!"

Crash!

Members of the nearby team swarmed toward the tavern.

Bang!

The window of a private room on the second floor shattered, and several figures leapt out.

They were immediately intercepted by the team, and a fight broke out.

...…

Wu Heng sprinted forward.

He leapt into the air, the [Soul-Whip] in his hand glowing faintly as it lashed out at the entangled spirits.

Snap!

The whip cut through the air, striking the spirits like a whip hitting a water balloon.

A piercing scream erupted as the spirits writhed in agony.

The entangled spirits broke apart, forming three separate entities: two grotesque ghosts and Glenda.

"They were lying in wait in the room. Their levels are higher than mine," Glenda quickly reported.

Wu Heng's eyes narrowed as bone cages erupted from the ground, closing in on the fleeing ghosts.

The bone cages expanded rapidly, following the ghosts' movements.

It seemed that the spirits would be successfully contained.

But Glenda called out another warning. "Wu Heng, your shadow!"

In the darkness, a shadowy figure gradually materialized behind him, holding a blade aimed at his back.

Wu Heng lunged forward, shielded by Kashu at his side.

The wind roared as Kashu's fist struck the shadow, shattering it instantly.

The shadow broke apart like spilled ink, dissolving into the night and disappearing.

The brief distraction allowed the two specters to put some distance between themselves and the bone cage.

Wu Heng no longer tried to trap both specters at once. The cage snapped shut around one of them.

One ghost was trapped inside.

Wu Heng gradually pulled it closer.

The surroundings fell silent, except for the imprisoned ghost thrashing and wailing inside the cage.

There were no more attacks, nor any sign of the shadowy assassin.

"I'll follow them and take a look," Glenda suggested.

Wu Heng shook his head. "No, let's regroup and discuss this."

Glenda nodded and returned to Wu Heng's side, turning invisible.

Wu Heng took out a [Soul Jar], placed it within the bone cage, and sealed the specter inside.

He ordered a skeleton to guard him.

Wu Heng turned back to Glenda. "Let me see what's going on."

"Alright!" Glenda merged into his body.

They shared a vision starting from the moment she entered the tavern.

The disorganized table, the man vigorously engaged on the bed with a pale-skinned woman.

Then, the sudden appearance of the specters.

They seemed to have been lurking nearby, charging directly at Glenda.

The scene shifted to Glenda calling for help.

Wu Heng released Glenda. "Keep watch around us, and don't stray too far."

"Got it."

Glenda turned invisible again and hovered nearby.

...…

Wu Heng quickly approached the tavern.

Outside the tavern lay several corpses, including one without pants—the same man Glenda had seen earlier, working hard on the bed.

From Glenda's perspective, he had been a level 15 Professional.

He had been killed so quickly.

Surrounding them were the team members who had finished the fight and large reinforcements of skeletons.

Densely packed, they surrounded the area completely.

Sheila Grey exuded a chilling aura, with frost clinging to her eyelashes and face. "They're all dead. No one escaped."

"There's a woman inside. Investigate her and figure out her connection to these people," Wu Heng said.

Sheila Grey gave the order to the team behind her, and two squads entered to continue the investigation.

She then looked at Wu Heng and asked softly, "What happened earlier?"

"There were two specters, and there's likely a necromancer involved," Wu Heng explained.

Sheila Grey's expression darkened. The more she dealt with Wu Heng, the more she realized how troublesome necromancers could be.

And now, one had arrived on the island.

"Do we know who it is?"

"Not yet, but based on the missing person reports you mentioned, they're likely collecting corpses. This could get tricky," Wu Heng speculated.

Things were becoming clear.

With the missing persons tied to the presence of a necromancer, it was obvious they were collecting corpses.

Every profession had its characteristics, and those traits naturally shaped people's behavior.

Just like Wu Heng—before he became a Professional, he found corpses unsettling and considered them bad luck.

Now, he gathered corpses through various channels to create skeletons.

It even felt a bit like collecting cards in the pre-apocalypse era.

Most others were the same. Whenever they arrived at a new place or had a goal, their first thought was to expand their advantages.

For necromancers, the quickest way to gain an advantage was by collecting corpses.

After all, not everyone had a bronze key that could open a door to summon tens of thousands of skeletons.

Sheila Grey glanced warily around, surrounded by the island's skeletal guards. "What's the plan now?"

Wu Heng replied, "Let's question the dead."

Sheila Grey nodded and had the corpses moved to a nearby alley, where Wu Heng cast [Speak with the Dead].

The corpse sat up, its cloudy eyes staring ahead.

Wu Heng asked directly, "Who are you people?"

The corpse answered, "Followers of the Destiny Sect."

"How many of you are on the island?"

"Twelve."

There were currently seven dead bodies, which meant five were still unaccounted for.

"What's your purpose here?"

"To avenge the members killed by the guild."

Wu Heng and Sheila Grey exchanged glances.

Both were surprised by the situation.

A newly established sect with no official record in the guild had come directly to the island to kill the guild-appointed island governor and local steward.

What arrogance.

Even more audacious than the Divine Punishment Sect. When their two Guardians came to Gold-Silver Island for revenge,

They had planned to lure the targets out instead of openly murdering people on the island.

Wu Heng asked the fourth question.

"What's the level of your strongest member?"

The corpse hesitated. "The sect's grand knight, but I don't know the exact level."

The final question: "What profession is this grand knight?"

"Necromancer."

As expected, the team included a necromancer.

After answering the five questions, the corpse lay back down.

Wu Heng turned to the second corpse and cast [Speak with the Dead] again. The body sat up.

"How many undead minions does the grand knight have with him?"

The corpse, its neck slashed horizontally, answered in a hoarse voice, "I'm not sure. Around eleven or twelve."

"Why don't you know for sure?"

"We've spent the past two days collecting corpses for the grand knight, so the exact number is unclear."

Just as they suspected.

"Besides the grand knight, how many high-level Professionals do you have?"

"One level 15 Guardian, two level 10s, and the rest are above level 5."

At this point,

They had gathered most of the important information.

Only five members of the Destiny Sect remained on the island. The level 15 Guardian was likely the man lying dead at their feet.

Aside from the necromancer's undead minions, there weren't many high-level Professionals left.

Confident that they had the upper hand,

Wu Heng asked, "Where is the grand knight hiding?"

"In the eastern residential district, at a house with three horizontally arranged dots on the door."

After answering, Wu Heng ended the spell, and the corpse lay back down.

"Gather the remaining bodies. We're going to capture him," Wu Heng said.

The bodies were wrapped up, and Sheila Grey stored them in her spatial ring.

The group, accompanied by a large number of skeletons, headed directly toward the eastern residential district on Lighthouse Street.

...…

The entire street was shrouded in darkness.

It was eerily quiet.

The group quickly arrived at the target location.

"Break in."

Several skeletons charged at the door.

Bang!

The door was easily smashed open, the sound echoing through the night as the skeletons staggered into the house.

Crackle!

As the skeletons entered, sounds of breaking and shattering echoed from within.

Wu Heng casually cast [Dancing Lights], illuminating the room.

Hanging upside down from the ceiling beam was a corpse, dressed as one of the missing guild members that Sheila Grey had mentioned.

The corpse's abdomen and chest were still burst open.

Several spiders, each the size of a bowl, were biting and attacking the skeletons inside the room.
