Philip stepped into the room, and there was an instant shift in Laura's demeanor, like anger.
"What the fuck?" she burst out, her voice sharp and cutting through the air like glass.
"Now you're going to rot in jail," Olivia said, her tone amused, though confusion still lingered in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Laura. I just have too many people who want me."
She wasn't entirely sure what game was unfolding, but she knew exactly what she was doing. Her statement was meant to provoke, to bait Laura into losing control and revealing the one thing Olivia suspected all along: her involvement with Philip.
"One minute you're smart, the next you're just stupid as fuck," Laura snapped. "Who said I'm letting Philip leave here with you?"
She turned on Philip now, venom dripping from every word. "Are you done playing the nice guy? Why don't you just tell her already? We've been fucking."
The room froze.
Olivia gasped, stunned. That… she hadn't seen coming. Not in a million years.
