A group of students in blue and magenta robes happened to walk past Wade. They were laughing and chatting, discussing a recent match.
"10 to 390... hahahaha... This is the first time I've seen such a huge gap in a match…"
The smile on Lupin's face instantly disappeared. He rubbed his nose, looking a bit annoyed and a little embarrassed.
"What's wrong?"
Wade glanced at the gold buttons on the students' robes and asked curiously.
"They're talking about the match between England and Transylvania," Lupin said in a low voice. "England only scored ten points."
"Oh." Wade started to understand, but he didn't think it was that bad.
How should he put it? In the Muggle World Cup, he'd seen even more embarrassing games. He had long since stopped getting angry over such things.
Then Wade asked, "Transylvania? I remember it's in Romania."
"It is in the Muggle world, but in the wizarding world, Transylvania is a special place. It's not to be confused with Romania,"
Lupin said seriously. "That place is home to many dark magical creatures, and some powerful dark wizards live in seclusion there."
As they spoke, the group of students had already passed by, and Wade saw Sirius and Harry.
Harry was crouched in front of the tent, trying to build a crooked frame with some firewood, doing his best to start a campfire.
Sirius was standing on the open ground near the tent entrance with his hands in his pockets, talking to a wizard with an amused expression.
That wizard was wearing a yellow-and-black Quidditch robe, looking like a fat wasp. He wore a cheerful and lively smile, and his round blue eyes made him look even more like an overgrown schoolboy.
"Oh, Ludo Bagman," Lupin said with a frown.
"Dear Sirius, want to place a bet on the match?"
Bagman said enthusiastically, "Ireland versus Peru — the odds are three to one! Bulgaria versus Wales — Krum is playing, guaranteed win!"
"You can also bet on which team scores first, who catches the Golden Snitch! Which two teams make it to the finals... So, interested?"
"Come on, have a go! If you miss this, you'll have to wait four years!"
Sirius showed a playful smile, flipped a few Galleons in his hand, and raised an eyebrow: "If you guarantee I win, doesn't that mean you're bound to lose? I heard in England's last match, you almost lost your wand!"
A trace of embarrassment flashed across Bagman's face, but he quickly laughed twice and patted Sirius on the shoulder:
"Wins and losses — that's the charm of the game, isn't it? Bet ten Galleons, win back thirty! You don't get chances like this every day!"
Sirius was about to say something when Lupin interrupted him: "Good morning, Sirius. Bagman."
When Lupin and Wade appeared, Sirius's smile became genuinely warm, but sweat began to form on Bagman's forehead.
"Haha, I was wondering who it was — turns out it's Remus. Of course, of course, you'd all be here to watch the match."
Bagman chuckled awkwardly as he began to back away: "Speaking of which, Pontner just now said he wanted to place a bet! I'd better go talk to him. See you later, friends!"
After speaking, before anyone could respond, he hurriedly left.
"How strange. This is the first time I've seen someone who's afraid of you but not me," Sirius said teasingly, glancing at Lupin. "What, did you pay him a visit during a moonlit night?"
"What? No! Of course not!" Lupin looked around before saying, "I saw him asking Marchionne for a loan earlier—Bagman's about to lose everything and is desperate to use this match to make a comeback."
"By gambling?" Sirius sneered. "That's insane! Has he not thought about what'll happen if he loses?"
"If he could think that far ahead, he wouldn't be a gambler in the first place," Lupin replied.
While the two adults were talking, Harry greeted Wade, and the two of them entered the tent together.
From the outside, Sirius's tent looked impressive, but inside, it was more like a palace. It even had two floors, complete with a bathroom and kitchen. Each of the four people had their own spacious bedroom.
The bedroom prepared for Wade had already been tidied up. The sheets and blankets were brand new and carried a faint scent of sunshine.
Kreacher stood by the door, and when he saw Wade, he bowed and said, "Kreacher is preparing lunch. What would young master Wade like for lunch?"
"Steak is fine. Thanks, Kreacher."
Wade replied casually. Once he saw Kreacher hurrying off to the kitchen with a spatula in hand, he turned to Harry and asked, "You brought Kreacher along too?"
"That wasn't our idea—he insisted on coming," Harry said. "He thinks that without him, the best Sirius could do is make sure we don't starve to death."
"But I just saw you making a campfire outside?" Wade asked.
"Just for fun," Harry shrugged. "Sirius thinks it adds to the camping atmosphere."
Honestly, Harry thought it was fun too.
The Dursleys had never taken him camping, so this was actually his first time doing something like this. He wanted to try everything he'd only ever seen on TV.
If Wade had arrived a week earlier, he would've seen a hyperactive, excited "Boy Who Lived" running around the camp.
Wade took a tour of the tent, and then the two of them returned to the open space out front.
By then, the campfire was already burning. Kreacher had helped skewer some meat, vegetables, and two fish so they could roast them over the fire.
Wade and Harry sat on stools, and turned their skewers slowly while watching the flames lick the food, making it sizzle. They chatted about holiday homework and life lately.
"...I've read the entire Potions textbook already, just so Snape won't find something to pick on me about," Harry said. "But I still haven't written the Divination essay—though honestly, I doubt Professor Trelawney will actually read it."
"You finished it at the Dursleys'?" Wade asked.
"Yeah. Sirius lives nearby, so Uncle Vernon couldn't take away all my magic books this time…" Harry muttered.
As long as Harry didn't reveal the scar on his forehead, the two of them looked like just another pair of ordinary students barbecuing at the campgrounds. But Sirius was a different story—he drew attention like a spotlight.
While Wade sat nearby, he watched wave after wave of people come over to talk to Sirius—Ministry officials, pure-blood wizards, former classmates, and even young witches who had come just to meet him.
Wade glanced at Harry and said, "After we finish eating, want to go find Michael and the others?"
"Sure!" Harry nodded enthusiastically. "Someplace quieter."
