The Salmoon: A Cruel Monument

​There was a massive dome of light at the bottom of the hill where the Salmoon sat. It was a dome large enough for a thousand people, possibly more. Rebecca rolled her eyes and looked to Rachel.

​"Did it really need to be this big? Huge, actually. Did it really need to be this huge?"

​Rachel smiled and shrugged. "Yes. The size is important."

​It was lit brilliantly, but because it was in the abyss, the dome did not push back much of the surrounding darkness. There was only a pool of brilliant light immediately around the dome and a narrow, shallow circumference of water around that. Still, the Salmoon seemed to look down upon the illumination with quiet amusement. As if this were a quaint, impressive effort from the youngsters of the realm.

​Rachel frowned as she seemed to feel the Salmoon's gaze on her. She hoped this woman had not retained that much of her sentience. Rachel shuddered slightly. That would be a cruel fate indeed.
