The Salmoon: A Cruel Monument
There was a massive dome of light at the bottom of the hill where the Salmoon sat. It was a dome large enough for a thousand people, possibly more. Rebecca rolled her eyes and looked to Rachel.
"Did it really need to be this big? Huge, actually. Did it really need to be this huge?"
Rachel smiled and shrugged. "Yes. The size is important."
It was lit brilliantly, but because it was in the abyss, the dome did not push back much of the surrounding darkness. There was only a pool of brilliant light immediately around the dome and a narrow, shallow circumference of water around that. Still, the Salmoon seemed to look down upon the illumination with quiet amusement. As if this were a quaint, impressive effort from the youngsters of the realm.
Rachel frowned as she seemed to feel the Salmoon's gaze on her. She hoped this woman had not retained that much of her sentience. Rachel shuddered slightly. That would be a cruel fate indeed.
