Rachel used her sorcery quite a bit. It was one of her innate abilities and she was quite good with the spellwork and techniques. Sorcery essentially combined magics to perform desired tasks without the need to spellweave. Once a sorceric process was learned it was kept for eternity only to continually increase in power and depth.
Rachel had a sorceric process that allowed her to create, strengthen, or break soul tethers. She had only used them on herself when it came to her soulemates but she was confident she would be able to alter it to be affective on Camala so this is what she did. She essentially took the process off of her sorcery shelf and began to rework it for the current purpose.
